Hi,
Our 5 month old kitten had her 1st vaccinations yesterday and from about 3 hours after getting home she has definitely been out of sorts. She is off her food and seems very placid and not active at all like she usually is during her active times in the day/night. Since approximately 7PM yesterday evening she has been drowsing/sleeping most of the time apart from a couple of very small nibbles at her food.
I expected some adverse reaction to the vaccinations but perhaps was not expecting such a change. Also, where she has been lying on the bed she has been shedding some pale amber coloured debris approximately 2mm long and slightly cylindrical in shape tapering at the ends. Are these some form of larvae or egg infestation from her coat?
My first thought was that possibly the vaccine in her system has proven toxic to these pale amber coloured bits and they have died and been discarded.
Any feedback appreciated.
Thx & Rgds

are they fleas, sorry if that sounds obvious I'm struggling with my imagination!!

Hi
I can help you with the reaction from the injection.
My cat too had a reaction, very sleepy & not eating but she did recover after 24 hours, I would not leave it any longer than that if your cat is still unwell.

I have looked at the pale amber debris with a magnifying glass and they are more like a seed, ie, smoothish surface at the resolution visible with a magnifying glass and no legs. I would guess that they are not fleas but possibly some type of dormant egg/larvae/seed.

I think you need to get in touch with your vet about these and maybe take a sample in. Are you sure they are coming from her coat?
If your cat is not improving within 24 hrs from the jab or has any signs of real problems with breathing then get her back to the vets pronto.

It can knock them off their paws for a wee while - bit like human babies - They all react differently.
My Zubin had a reaction to his 1st lukemia injection (he is a Bengal and they are not supposed to have it till after their first birthday as some can have a bad reaction ) - he does now even aged 5 have an off night after his boosters ( he has them tonight :scared: ) - but if you are still worried ring the vet for advise and pop her along. xxxx

omg who told you that - Tilly had hers when she was a tiny baby - what problems does it cause - is it an instant bad reaction or something long term??

My cats have always be out of it for about 24 hours after boosters but then back to normal. I once rang my vet and she said it can do that but if they didn't seem better next day ring but they were fine. Not sure about the little things in coat though.

Lice? I would take some into your vet and ask them to look!
How is she doing today?

Thx for all your replies and advise.
I am pleased to say she is 100% back to herself, charging round the place, playing with her toys and with a good appetite again. The vaccination certainly had an effect, however, late the following day, approx 30 hrs after the vaccination she ate all of her food and is now fully recovered 2 days later

FABULOUS xxx my boys had their boosters on Friday and Saturday Zubin was a bit sleepy but sunday the nice new compost I had put on the rockery - Zubi thought it was for him :shify:
On her next booster - just keep your eye on her and expect her to be quiet for a day, if any longer and you are worried ring and chat to the vet. I am an over protective Mum too
