Title: Meet Tyson - A little one that was not meant to be - RIP my little fighter
Post by: LesleyW on March 26, 2009, 17:19:49 PM: Had a call from the PDSA this lunchtime. A mum cat was spayed at 10am this morning. Owner thought she was in early pregnancy but due to being in a car accident and having broken her pelvis when she was younger it was decided to spay her rather than risk her trying to give birth. When carrying out op, discovered one kitten in womb, full term. :scared:

Due to the fact that they did not expect to find a full term kitten mum had been given pre-med and anaesthetic. Little kitten was given a few hours to recover from this and is now ensconsed in a little box until I get home and swap bigger kittens into bigger ICU and move the now named Tyson (what else do you call a little fighter like him) into the smaller ICU.

In the last one, tried to show how small he is against my inde4x finger.

The nurses said they couldn't get him to feed but as soon as I got him I gave him some special KittyStim that I have, and then he took a good 1.5ml of milk and had a snooze, An hour later he is wiggling around, took another 1.5ml and did a nice pooh :). His suckle reflex is good so, although very very very very early times for him, I am pleased at his responses.

But all good vibes for him are extremely welcome, thank you :Luv2:

Post by: LesleyW on March 26, 2009, 19:32:50 PM: Apparently mummy cat is fine but owners do not want commitments of kitten (think that's why PDSA got them to sign him over, were worried that not too much would be done to make sure he survived).

He is a real fighter - is now in the small ICU, after a thorough cleaning and all new bedding etc. Whilst cleaning and preparing it for him he made several escape attempts from his box.

At the moment I have very good feelings about this little chap, but it is very early days, so keeping everthing crossed and lots of :wish: :wish: :wish: :wish: :wish:

Post by: LesleyW on March 27, 2009, 10:19:49 AM: well, Tyson is now 24 hours old ;D and holding his own very well. He managed to get lost in his blankets during the night and I was trying to find him all wrapped up and he was screaming his little head off.

Had a lovely cuddle after feeding inside my dressing down and I think he would have happily stayed there all night.

His suck reflex is excellent and he managed 3ml in his last feed so I am really pleased with him.

I think all the purrs positive vibes are working. :Luv2: :thanks:

Post by: LesleyW on March 28, 2009, 09:35:50 AM: Tyson decided to scare the living daylights out of his mum and have a bad evening. Didn't want to feed and seemed to get lethargic and, although in a temperature controlled intensive care unit, seemed cold.

I gave him a final dose of kittystim at about midnight and stayed with him until 3am at which time tried another little feed. Euereka, he decidd to suckle again and did a nice poo so don't know whether he had a slight stomach ache or was just feeling a bit down.

Has fed twice more since then, seems much warmer again and more settled so hopefully he is just trying to keep me on my toes. If he is, he's doing a real good job as I was very distressed at his condition last night and thought all my good feelings had been too much too soon.

Hopefully today he will continue to improve. Will weigh him again later to see if he has gained any weight - was 97g when he arrived. Makes the 2 week old kittens look enormous :rofl:

Will keep you all up-dated.

similar story to Mabel and Indy, though she had to go through birth and 5 weeks raising with a broken pelvis... I pray that Tyson becomes as big and strong as Indy

He's still holding his own, sometimes he feeds better than others but at least he is feeding and pooing so things are obviously going in and out. The one thing I will say is that he has large paws, so if he does pull through he may turn into a big kitty.

Thank you for all your support, I definitely appreciate it and I keep passing on all the little messages to Tyson so I am sure he appreciates it too :thanks:

Herbie was in a very similar situation when he was born by cescarean (sp?) and spent the first few days as a blue kitten after the effects of the anaethestic. We had several rocky moments with him due to this but his fighting spirit pulled him through. It sounds as though he is a fighter hun... so I have everything crossed that he will do as Herbie did and fight on.

Herbie sends big nose rubs and caring head bumps to little Tyson.... says he's ready for nursing duties anytime! ;)
he'll show the little one how to do it! :)

I haver given him some more kittystim and some karo syrup but at the moment things are not looking good.

So i've asked Smudgey to go and make sure Tyson's ok as hes only little....my little guardian angel is on the case..... :Luv:
