Title: covcats - anyone want to foster/adopt a 19 yo ginger boy?
Post by: Angiew on March 23, 2009, 10:12:10 AM
I'm going to be picking up a 19yo this afternoon whose owner has gone into sheltered accomodation. Vet appt booked for an initial assessment etc at 2-20. Need somewhere to place him if possible. Golden oldie scheme will apply to this chap if anyone locally likes their oldies....

If you get really desperate I will take him (although i'm in Leeds and have a mad tortie to contend with!!!)

Hope he's ok - what a thing to go through when you're in your twilight years  :'(

Wasn't sure what to expect as the woman who contacted me said he was so old he didn't look like a cat. I was expecting a thin wizened old looking cat but on first appearances he looked quite a good size with a good coat.
First thing I noticed was when he shook his head he squelched.

Vet says teeth need doing, in fact he has a boney lump on his jaw which vet said is due to a bone infection from some untreated tooth infection. One ear is dripping with pus and the other ear full of blue tumours. Vet sucked his teeth and said it was probably a waste of money.... >:( but we have him booked in on friday for bloods and dental ....he did very little else - he's the vet I think is as much use as a chocolate T-pot but then if hes going in on Friday for a dental etc then I suppose it wasn't worth doing loads today. Got ear drops and noroclav AB's.

Anyway took him round to Jill for a proper check up and she chipped the tartar off his teeth, cleaned his dripping ear and had a look - she might take him back in but says its probably the ears that will do him eventually. So Jill has yet another cat!!

Amanda, the lady that called it in said they used to have several cats, one of whom has a burst eye that was never treated. Still he does look good for all that neglect!

Yes he's at jills now. Sadly the other old ginger boy and the fluffy tabby and white - both ancient and went to Jill  within the last month have died - essentially came in old and knackered and not long for this world - poor things. At least she provides somewhere comfortable for them to do so.

I would love to do what Jill does, well we do adopt oldies anyway but I may ask my local CP about that.
