Title: TEDDY
Post by: Ela on March 15, 2009, 07:24:45 AM
I woke  up about 25 mins ago sat bolt upright, looked round and saw Teddy one of my long term fosters on my pillow, nothing unusual there, (Teddy took up that role the day after I lost my Jessica who was the one to sleep on my pillow, although Teddy used to try if Jessica got off for any reason).  I jumped out of bed and said come on Teddy, she did not move and then realised she had gone to Rainbow Bridge. I called Stuart and he came upstairs to confirm she was gone and he gently wrapped her up in a baby blanket.  She is now in one of the cat pens and tomorrow I will take her to the vets so she can join all the others I have loved and lost. Funny but I have not yet burst out crying (but a tear is now just starting to run down my face)  I think I am in too much shock, as she seemed so well.  Stuart said when he got up about 6.30 she was purring away. I know purring can also be a sign of distress but she was laying in her usual position and it seems her heart just stopped. It was only about 11 or 12 ish last night she jumped on the bed and I stroked her head twice and then ran my hands down her body and thought how well she felt for a golden oldie,

Sorry Elaine - hopefully she passed peacefully. It looks as if she came to you for comfort at the end.

RIP Teddy  :(

That is so true, I keep sending Stuart out to make sure she really has died. Although I know deep down she has. I think the realization is gradually sinking in as the tears seem to be flowing.

I'm so sorry. How old was Teddy?

RIP, Teddy. You knew a home and love and I'm sure you were glad of it.

So sorry to read this Elaine.  I really don't know what to say.  These furbabes of ours cause us such heartache when they are ill and we try everything to pull them through but sometimes fail, but they break our hearts just as bad when they leave us suddenly, hopefully without pain and in their sleep, which is they way we all wish them to go, but then worry that they suffered without us knowing.

I am sure Teddy did not suffer at all, it was just her time and she went in the perfect way, sleeping by your side, loved, warm and at home.

RIP Teddy, though sad, a beautiful way to travel to the Bridge. :Luv2:

That's true. And although it's small consolation for your loss, I think it's probably how most animals would rather go.

Aww thats so sad  :( Were there no signs of illness? Seems strange as she was not really old.

I think they always like to be close when they know the time is coming

RIP Teddy xxx

I'm so sorry to hear this Ela.  Teddy went peacefully, by your side, without suffering and I hope you can take comfort from that.

No signs of illness at all, only late last night I was thinking to myself after giving her some fuss how well she looked and felt (bright shiny fur, no loss of muscle mass that you sometimes find on oldies). Her normal habit of on and off the bed during the night, no strange noises. I really think her heart just stopped. She just looks at peace like she always did when asleep.

I have to agree though that perhaps it is the best way to pass over, although a shock to the carer.

My Clawdette passed similarly. Sadly, she did have signs of distress, but they lasted for a brief period. She too was not old. And had been the picture of health prior. Then suddenly was gone.

My vet said sudden heart failure. Rare in cats, but there.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know pretty much exactly how you are feeling, though. I truly do not believe one is ever prepared for such a loss - no matter how long we have seen it coming and known that such would be the inevitable outcome. But the sudden loss truly adds an additional spike through the heart. Because then one can't help but ask over and over - was there something I missed? Was there something that should have been done, but wasn't? Was there......

There wasn't. Not for me and Clawdette nor for you and Teddy. Please reassure yourself with that.

She had the best death anyone can have. At home. Beside the person she loved. At peace. Warm, secure and loved.

And know that you are loved in your loss.

By her. By me and my herd. And by the Purrs family.

Much, much love...........

I can't see Teddys age at her time of passing - where have you read it, CC?

Sorry I read that wrong, it says the time was about 11-12  but did mention she was an oldie so maybe older?

Teddy was almost 17, although to be honest  when a cat/kitten seems 100% fit and healthy and acts normal, then  you find it dead on your pillow  and had been dead draped round your head, whatever the age it is a terrible shock.

I can understand that, Ela. Just thought I'd missed the age. Did the vet have any suggestions as to what happened to Teddy? Hope you and your husband are coping OK with your sudden loss.

PM will be sent in a few mins.

The vet nurse was very kind and gave Teddy a little stroke which I thought was nice. She agreed with me that Teddy looked so peaceful  it must have been Teddy's time and her heart must have just stopped.
