Title: Injured paw

Basil has a damaged paw, it's been bleeding but seems to have stopped.I don't know how he has done it. I have tried to wash it with diluted TCP and water but he's having none of it. He doesn't seem to be bothered by it and he's not limping. The vet's are now closed for the weekend so, what else can I do? I have iodine and bandages. The problem is that I can't get him to hold still so I can get a good look at it. I'm going to keep him inside for the rest of the weekend and take him to the vet on Monday. Any advice for home treatment?

Poor Basil, as long as he can put weight on it and bleeding has stopped he will be fine till Monday.
Please dont use TCP on a cat,if you need to clean the wound warm salt water is best.

Thanks Teresa, should I put gauze and a bandage around it to keep it clean. Is iodine safe to use? I'm concerned that the paw will get dirty in the litter tray.

I would avoid bandages and gauze, use salt water only.
Recently our feral cat Milly had an injured paw, 2 bones chipped, claw ripped out and cut, she didnt get it dirty in her tray and it didnt get infected,unless this is a massive cut stop worrying. :hug:
If you are overly worried you can ring the out of hours vet for advice only.
Hope Basils paw is soon as good as new.

Thanks again. I have washed it  with salt water so we will see how he is over the weekend.
