I went to our local store and was totally horrified at the state of the Tropical tanks. The Coldwater Tanks were OK. In every single Tropical tank there was at least one dead fish, the worst ones had five dead fish, one Clown Loach was white, meaning it had been dead for hours. I accosted a girl who said that she would get someone to take the dead fish out of the tanks but the reason there were so many dead fish was that they had had a delivery overnight. I got a grovelly email from Head Office saying that they would review procedures etc. Tanks to have dead fish removed hourly ect. They have a one hour quarrantine proceedure at the mo. The fish shops I buy from quarrantine for a week minimum.
The Manageress of the shop in question thanked me for bringing these issues to the attention of the Head Office. The Staff have already raised these issues, but it takes a paying customer to make HO sit up and take notice.
Please do so if you go to these stores and see dead fish etc.
The RSPCA and other Animal Welfare Charities do not deal with fish as they are cold blooded and don't count.

My biology lecturer told us last week that fish have to be treated humanely in experiments as they are vertebrates. Surely they have some protection. I dealt with PAH head office local trading standards a few years ago regarding them selling dangerous collars labelled as safety collars. They said they have regular meetings with PAH and would bring the issue up. AFAIK, nothing happened. I report your concerns to them. From what I remember, it was Cheshire trading standards.

I complained once in my local garden centre come pet shop about a canary which was obviously sick, and which was being attacked by other birds in the same small cage
I was told, with a shrug, that it was probably going to die anyway - so I stood there until she reluctantly moved it to one of the many empty cages, and it immediately perked up
how do these people get to work with living creatures :censored:
