Poor Blip, as her friends know, suffers from blocked anal glands. She also suffers from foxes and other cats at the boundaries of her territory (Blip is pretty feisty and fights them off at the borders, so far as she can). I'm sure the two are connected.
The past few days, I have noticed little bits of dried faeces at the base of her tail and round her anus. They are causing her fur to matt slightly. I've cleaned these off with warm water and kitchen paper, but it distresses Blip. Any hints for easier ways to clean her bottom, as I reckon we are in for the long haul on this flight?
Judging by the position and consistency of the faecal deposits, we're dealing with sticky motions rather than diarrhoea or constipation and Blip had her most recent check-up twelve weeks ago, so it's management hints I'm after :thanks:

Aww poor Blip.
Christine, i use wet wipes cat/dog ones for Boy and then remove what is left with a comb, he never cleans him self so if i am not around to clean him straight away it goes dry and some times sticky when he has diarrhoea, i find kitchen towels are too rough and he hates them, you can also use oganic baby wipes and keep her fur short .
-
Poor little Blip  I think Pav is right, the kitchen roll may be too rough for her - try cotton wool balls. Good idea about keeping the fur short too but I suspect that would be an impossible task if she doesn't even like you wiping.
-
Poor Blip :( I also use wipes for Schui as he is a bit of a mucky kitty and struggles to wash himself, I then comb the fur as it tends to stick a bit.
-
I would use the cotton pads that you can buy in a stack for make up removal and babys, they are oval and mine come from Tescos but think all the supermarkets have their own version. Cos they dont deposits fluff like cotton wool balls can and are very soft with cotton wool betwen the two pieces of soft cotton material.
Agree with Pav to keep the fur short around the offending area.

i use tushi wipes on my lad with the dirty bum and because he is such a pain have to battle him to the vets every so often to get a good clean - you can most often smell him before see him and considering he likes to sleep on the pillow next to me
-
:thanks: everyone and it's good to know we're not alone too.
Pav and Angie, where do you buy wet wipes cat /dog and tushi wipes, respectively? Wipes might be the way to go, I think. Meanwhile, I'll use my cotton wool pads moistened in warm water.
:thanks:
-
Poor Blip  Jaffa sends his sympathy too.
I used tushy wipes when Mosi went through a phase of getting poo on his bum (when he was little) - I got them from pets at home.
-
Hi Christine, i get them from my vets but you can always use the normal baby wipes aslong as its organic. If your vet doesnt have them let me know and i get some for you and send it.
-
I have always used normal baby wipes - unscented of course, and never had any problems. Either that, or a warm flannel (but that is more when I am wiping the whole cat - had to do that with Tino, bless him).
-
I had to wipe Layla's bum at least 4 times a day in the last couple of months and always used unscented baby wipes and they were absoluetly fine. I double checked with the vet about whether or not I should use specially designed cat ones and he advised that unscented baby wipes would do the trick.
 for Blip xxx
-
 to Blip, Having had so many I consider myself a master at bum cleaning  for general wiping the unscented baby wipes are good, for really mucky ones warm water, minute amount of fairy liquid and lots of flannels , keeps Pedders clean.
-
:thanks: to everyone for your advice and :thanks: to Pav for offering to source some wipes for me. I've bought some unscented baby wipes this afternoon - they were on offer in Waitrose as well - and I'm going to try those first. I'll let you know how we get on.
:thanks:
-
I always used unscented baby wipes on Dragan (RIP) and try them on Charlie who hates it. I have had to cut out clumps of his fur lately from when he had the diarrhoea! Best of luck
-
One week on and I only had to use one unscented baby wipe, last Saturday.
This is good news on two counts (a) that Blip hasn't had any more little local difficulties and (b) that I haven't had to subject her to the indignity of having her bottom wiped. However, I can confirm that baby wipes are a most effective aid for this job.
As for me, I now have an industrial quantity of unscented baby wipes as I bought extra to take advantage of the offer ;)
-
Glad to hear that Blip's bottom is better. I'm sure you'll find a good use for your megga stock of baby wipes Chris.

Glad to hear that Blip is getting over her bot problem

Yesterday Blip got rather mucky :( and I upset her rather cleaning it all off. So I got the vet nurse round today to shave the hair around the base of her tail and anus. She agreed that this would help Blip and me keep Blip's bottom cleaner, with less distress for Blip.
Our Gillian would have done a more elegant job, I'm sure, but the vet nurse did manage a neat trim without upsetting Blip much at all, so that's great ;D I was cuddling her throughout (Blip, that is, not the vet nurse) and that helped a lot.
So I've told Blip that she's had a Brazilian. Or perhaps it should properly be called a Californian: I'm no expert in this area ;)

Poor Blip. Noni has to be assisted on occasion Christine and I have a stock of baby wipes on hand. Haven't yet resorted to a Brazilian but VN at our vets has suggested it can be very helpful if things are bad enough. Hugs to lovely Blip
