Title: Aureomycin - has anyone used this?
Post by: DebbieM on February 26, 2009, 16:28:16 PM
Hi everyone...aureomycin, any good? I got this earlier today and Carra has had 2 applications so far. His eye looks a bit red and he's now squinting. Is this the normal reaction to this? He's had drops before but I've never used ointment. By the look of the eye I'm guessing I actually managed to get some into his eye this time. I was never sure about the drops cos I could see no sign that they were doing anything. Fingers crossed this does the trick!  :-:

If he continues to be more red then he started off or gets puffier then id stop and talk to your vet as it could be an allergic reaction. I think its one of the most annoying treatments, like a tube of bogeys

Thanks Millys Mum, I'll see what it's like in the morning and go from there.

The name didn't ring any bells until MM posted this...

...Now I know exactly what she means and it seemed to work well for Tiggy when she had a problem with her eye.  Quite hard to put in though due to it's bogey like quality!  Hope it starts to work for Carra

Thankfully his eye looks great this morning. Not squinting at all and not red, it's its normal amber colour. It looks better than it has done for a for a while but I'm staying clear of that tube as it gave me a scare yesterday with the reaction it caused him. He's on antibiotics for sore gums at the moment so maybe that will work on his eye too? I'm not sure if oral antibiotics work on eyes but am hoping so. He finishes the course on Sunday so will be able to tell more by then. Poor liittle chap has really been through it with his eye and the constant stress with drops and vets visits. I really think he needs a break from it all now.  He is happy chasing Coco up and down the stairs right now.
