A few days ago I noticed the bottom of his lip (right side) was drooping a little, and looking more brown than usual. I didn't think much of it - but today I had a proper look.
Looks like a HUGE brown, gooey mouth ulcer that is formed around his bottom fang (that was broken in half in his accident). What's left of that tooth looks yellow and unhealthy.
Taking him to the vets on Monday, and as he is not yet insured (due to my unemployment and low cash situation) I expect this to screw me over financially big time!!!
SO not the time for this!! But poor kitty has got to be seen.
-
isn't there a pdsa nearby hun??
-
Yes there is, but you need to prove that you're signing on, or on some sort of benefits. I am not able to sign on or recieve any benefits as I've been self employed for 4 years. ( Something about me being self employed during a certain tax year prevents me to recieve benefits)
I don't know how much this will cost me though, hopefully not a lot! But as his injections are due aswell I reckon the bill will mount up.
-
Oh dear, i remember the ponderings about it causing an issue when you first got him, fingers crossed its sorted out easily
-
ask if you can pay in installments at the vet hun, my vet lets people do that
-
That would help! I hope mine does that.
-
Hope Capones health issue is nothing too serious.
-
he might only need abs - Amber bit her tongue just before Christmas, she had a huge lump she only needed a course of ab's and it was fine, it was about £45 (a lot when you don't have it I know)
-
Is there any way he can be seen today as they can be really painful :(
-
I could only get the appointment for Monday, the earliest. I hope he isn't in any pain - he has been eating well, and looks and act like the little cheeky boy he is.
-
Sorry to hear this but as he is eating fine I think he will not be in pain. Defibately worth getting it seen to though
-
Hope he just needs antibiotics  I would put off his jabs until he's got this infection under control anyway.
-
Stella had a very similar thing just recently. After a particular McLaren assault I noticed she was dribbling a brown goo and when I finally got her to the Vet and we finally got to look into her mouth (not the easiest cat to handle) she had lost her front fang and there was a nasty infection. Vet suggested antibiotics and said if it got worse she would have to go in for a general anaesthetic and a good clean out but the ABs sorted it really quickly and she was right as rain after a couple of days. Hopefully Capone will be the same :ok:
-
I am praying it's nothing serious. I'll keep you updated. First time I've had to take a cat to the vets for anything other than general MOT or injections so feeling uneasy about it.
-
Poor little Capone, still going through the wars a bit but at least this time he is with his forever family who are looking after him this time.
My vet let me pay for Chilli's microchipping a month after she had it done with her spey as I just didn't have the money all at once, I didn't even ask, they offered when I said the chipping would have to wait. I think the vet would rather he was treated and get paid a little bit late.
 to you all, must be so stressful for you.

We took Capone to the vets today. He had his general MOT and is in good shape/weight.
However, he has got a mouth infection AND his bottom tooth (that I mentioned below, the one split in half) literally FELL out as the vet nurse opened his mouth!!!!!! It was rotten, and so is what is left of his upper tooth (on same side). The vet nurse told me they may have to remove the actual roots, which can prove tricky as there is nothing left to grip hold of.
Capone had 2 anti inflammatory injections and given a 5 day anti biotic course. He is due back to be seen in a weeks time, for them to assess the situation and to see how well the infection has cleared up.
It sounds like there will be a few more vet bills to deal with (the bill today came to £44, for someone without a job this is a LOT of money!!!!!) .... and according to the vets, insurance companies don't pay out to anything related to previous medical history. So, it would have been unlikely an insurance company would have covered this anyway.
Either way, it's got to be dealt with. Capone's health has improved so much and he is healthy in general so it's very important his mouth/teeth situation gets sorted asap.
He was a very good boy, charming both vet nurses who couldn't stop cuddling him!!!!!!!
-
I took littlest Capone back to the vets today for his check up (after having his anti b treatment). He got the all clear! ;D ;D ;D
Vet said that unless he displays signs of his mouth being painful or struggling to chew there is no need for them to remove the upper tooth stump (or the lower tooth root for that matter)
So my tail and toothless cat is a healthy boy - apart from a mild case of ear mites that we got drops for.
It cost me £30 to find out he is ok! But that's £30 well spent to take the worry outta my head.
-
I'm glad he's ok ;D
I think we need some pictorial evidence, however.......
-
I agree, I require visual evidence that Owl Capone really has had the all clear :shify:
-
Absolutely!! And as Dancer is only here for another two days it would be criminal to disappoint her............................ :naughty: :evillaugh:
-
Good news, glad he's got the all clear from the V.E.T :) ;D
-
Really glad he is ok...
But as the others have said you seem to be forgetting the rules Helena :evillaugh:

Hope he feels better now he is getting his mouth sorted :)

Glad to hear that Capone is now feeling much better
-
Absolutely!! And as Dancer is only here for another two days it would be criminal to disappoint her............................ :naughty: :evillaugh:
One day now actually, I will be departing from my flat at approximately 11am tomorrow ;)

So pleased that Capone is doing well ;D

This is all hearsay :shify: I won't believe a word of it until I see photographic evidence :evillaugh:
