Ok, so I work on an extremely busy road (I mean none stop traffic) and have seen this little black and white cat for a few weeks now. I only saw it from across the road and thought that it had a collar on and looked around a year old.
Unfortunately there was not much I could do at that point as if it's owned I can't stop people owning cats near busy roads and it at least had a little bit of garden acting as a buffer to the road.
Anyway, this morning it was on my side of the road (so it's obviously crossed the road at some point). This side of road only has pavement and it was deperately trying to dodge the traffic to get to the other side of the road. There was nothing I could do as I had to get to work, but on closer inspection it's around 6-9 months (I guess) and has no collar on :(
What do I do?! I can't take it home myself as I just have no room and the branch has absoluetly so space to take it. My welfare officer has said that she would be happy for me to *ahem* "aquire" the cat if we could find a temp. foster space... ;)
Or should I go through the official means of trying to find the owner and talking sense into them?
I'm trying a couple of friends to see if they could take him in on a temp basis, but it's doubtful...
... I just don't want to pass it knocked dead one day and think that I could have done something to help. I know I can;t stop people living near busy roads and usually have to turn a blind eye if I pass one in the car etc. but I see this little one every day.... :'(
-
Go get the babe to safety  poor little mite must be petrified. :'(
-
i agree. like you say, if something happens to it you'd never forgive yourself.
-
Hun, do what you have too, to get this little baby in a safe place.
-
Hi, I see from your website that you are in the Leeds area. Perhaps someone on this site in your area could provide temporary foster care. I think the first priority is to get him off the road. Then if he is chipped you could have a word with his owners and explain that you rescued him from nearly getting run over . If he's not chipped I, personally, would consider him a stray and try to rehome him.Regards.
-
Definately save him...............I got one into a rescue in London, was wearing a collar but was being fed next door until they went on holiday and was always hanging around for food and then would go and sit in the middle of the road.
-
Just called a volunteer as I don't have transport or a carrier, but i've decided to get it off the road and then deal from there.
We're going to hopefully get it to the vets. My b/f has said that we can take him in for a couple of days if needs be and I have a friend who may be able to take him on a longer term basis.
I can't concentrate at work and i'm wondering if I should go and try and buy a cat carrier and get him, but wothout transport it's not really feasible.
Hmm... what to do now
-
I agree, the little one won't be here much longer if you leave it and if he has an owner they obviously don't care enough to be responsible.
-
I don't suppose any one is in the Leeds area??!!!
-
If you can catch him you can keep him in a cardboard box with holes in temporarily until you can get him into a carrier. I know it sounds cruel but it's safer than leaving him kon the roadside.
Good luck xxxx
-
I've got boxes at work, but if it's distressed I wouldn't want it to break out and dart across the road (or get out when i'm in a taxi!)
I'm almost in tears at work because no-one in the branch even seems to want to help :( I think they take it for granted having cars and stuff - I have nothing here. I might have to leave it for today and bring my own carrier in tomorrow morning and hope it's still there
-
Right, we're going to come back at around 7ish when the traffic might have calmed a bit so if it does dart it will be safer. We're stocked up with carriers and food and 3 of us to look.
Our vets will be closed, but i'll take it home for the night if needs be.
Please, please, please keep your fingers crossed that we can get this little one :-[
-
I've got fingers and toes crossed. Thank you for helping ths little one.
-
ALL is firmly crossed for this little Solo babe   Stay safe little one till your Guardian Auntie comes to collect you in a beautiful warm comy carrier that will be full of lovely food and snuggly blankets xxxx

Please, please, please keep your fingers crossed that we can get this little one :-[

-
great news and tons of luck catching little kitty tonight xx
-
Everything crossed here - loads of luck tonight xxx
-
Just seen this, wishing you the bestest of luck tonight
-
Fingers crossed you can catch him.
I'd help out but no transport (I will learn how to drive in this Country!).
I had Gizmo in a cardboard box with holes when I picked him up. As long as you hold the top down very forcefully it works.
-
I'm all crossed and praying little one stays safe til later.
Take a piece of string or a shoe lace or something similar .... you may need to lure him into playing with you :sneaky:
-
I think Patience will play a big part in this :waiting:
But the lace - string idea ;D and maybe a treat or 15.
-
Fingers crossed you manage to get this little one to safety away from the road
-
Keeping everything crossed for you ......
-
Have you manged to catch the poor little thing?

Hey!
WE GOT HER!!!!!!!! (The only this is she's chipped....)
No luck last night, but got her this morning. Little girl around a year been straying for 3 months and painfully thin when she turned up at some student's house (they've been feeding her on and off) She's been out all night in this weather aswell...
I'll have to leave it with our welfare officer but i've told her that she CANNOT return her to that area, (i'd just steal her and keep her anyway!) and so we'll have to get round this one.... any advice?
J xxx
PS: The student's were calling her Phillipe so she's now Phillippa!
-
well done on getting her - is she chipped to someone locally??
-
Fantastic news - well done you. If she has been straying it may be that the "owners" have moved and chip details could be out of date and then you will need to keep her anyway (fingers crossed)
-
Glad you have rescued her ;D hope all turns out well for Phillipa
-
Hey FANTASTIC news she is now safe - microchip what microchip :sneaky:
Yuo could find out and call see how the land lies - but pleased she is safe Bless xxxxx
-
I'm not sure whether it's local or not - it could be that she's wandered far from a really safe home!
My colleague just dropped her off and feigned ignorance until Liz can sort it... she's amazing and would NEVER let a cat go back to an unsafe environment - she will do what's best for Phillippa (and she knows I wouldn't forgive her if she did any different!)
I just don't want the vet to contact the owners and for her to be whipped away again, but they are the vets we use all the time, so I think they wait for Liz to guide (here's hoping!)
I didn't have time to get photos (had to get back to my paid work!) but she's a little Felix cat who loves cuddles, radoiators and Whiskers!
-
Great news, well done you  :)
-
I'm not sure whether it's local or not - it could be that she's wandered far from a really safe home!
That's a serious possibility not to be discounted - someone may be heartbroken about her...
-
great that you got her, hope everything works out for the best.
-
Great news. So glad she is safe.
'I'm not sure whether it's local or not - it could be that she's wandered far from a really safe home!'
This is a real possibility. Obviously someone has cared enough about her at some time to get her chipped. I do feel that in all fairness an attempt should be made to contact them. If she has come from a good home someone will be over the moon to know she has been rescued and is safe. I know if any of mine got out and disappeared I would be hoping and hoping that they were found and checked for chip.
-
Without a doubt we will try and re-unite her, although the dilemma comes if it's on the busy road where she's been playing in traffic. I really hope that it's a nice safe home we can return her to but we'll just have to see!
-
Fingers crossed she is from a loving home in a safe environment. How wonderful if you can give a happy ending to the owners as well as the cat.
-
Well we've found the owners who were thrilled to have her back!!!!
It's a really not great area and it does go onto the road where she was found, but hopefully if they keep her in long enough it might not happen again. There's not really anything else we can do, she was neutered, chipped and vaxed so obviously good owners, just not a great area!
She's been missing since before Christmas whereas she normally just pootled up the street and back so maybe this will have scared her into staying put
I just hope I don't ever see her near my bit of raod ever again!
I'm pleased as they are lovely people, but I will still worry for her.
-
well that is good news, hopefully she was only near the road because she couldn't work out her way home (like Julie's Tilly a while back) - I'm pleased for them, it sounds like they really care
-
Great News but yes still a worry - all things crossed she will not wander again little minx xxx
-
at least now if you see her again, you know who to contact
-
Thanks to you, at least this time someone isn't turning up at their door with the news that their cat has been run over. You've done all you can do. Here's hoping she stays closer to home in future. Well done anyway.
-
Great News but yes still a worry - all things crossed she will not wander again little minx xxx
yes still a worry, how do they get homes so near busy roads? I do hope they will keep indoors I wouldn't dare let her out.
-
So pleased she is united with her owners and without your help she may have been another RTA statistic
-
Only just caught up with this ... so pleased little one is back home safe and well and has obviously been missed :Luv2:
Well done for managing to catch her and reunite her with her family
-
Great that you've managed to reunite this babe with their loving slave :) :Luv2:
-
Excellent news
-
Well done !!!!!! Im so glad the little cat is safe :)
-
If you were to get details from chip company but not follow them up it, would it be logged on her details?
Fingers crossed she stays at home more
-
Well done for reuniting this little girl with her owners :Luv: fingers crossed she stays away from main roads now
