Monty's bloods came back today and although his kidneys are borderline as expected for a cat of 16, his thyroid has settled downand so the vet is confident that a thyroidectomy is in his best interests. Therfore he is having his thyroid removed tomorrow. My welfare co-ordinator is a vet nurse at our CP surgery and so will be there to hold his paw but I could do with some positive vibes for him for tomorrow xxx thanks in advance xxx

Well he's at the vets as we speak. I am rather worried as I would be with any CP cat but there's an extra little niggle as we know he's going to be one of the family. The vets we use are absolutely fantastic so he is in the best possible hands but being 16-17 and having borderline renal function, he is obviouly high risk. If the op is a success though as they are confident it will be it will really improve his quality of life for his twilight years so will be worth the worry.
They will call me around 1 O'clock once he's woken up apparantly to let me know how it's all gone. Fingers crossed for lovely Monty xxxxxxxxxxx

Had a call and he got through the surgery and everything went well. They are keeping him in over night on fluids as because of his kidneys they want to monitor him closely. I have been told there is nothing to worry about and he has had lots of fuss from all the nurses.
I've got to call in the morning and as long as all is well he can come home tomorrow. I shall update you all once I've found out and hopefully brought him home.

After speaking to the vet, Monty is doing really well. Purring his head off, eating drinking and he's off the fluids now. He's also been giving them little swipe for trying to touch his paw, which he does not like! Obviously that's his military bossiness! hehe.
Because he is an elderly boy, they are keeping him in for another night just to observe him and make sure he's 00% fit and well before he comes home. I have been assured that's it's just a precaution that they take with all oldies and having spoken to my welfare co-ordinator who is Monty's vet nurse I am confident that he's fine. I know she would tell me if there was even the slightest thing to worry about. Although I want him home, I am glad he is being well looked after and that they are thorough.
I am going on a Cats Protection training day at CP HQ (NCC) tomorrow which is til 3 plus an optional tour of behind the scenes at the adoption centre which I will obviously want to do... then we are going to pick him up afterwards along with little Smudge who is one of our CP cats who is having an eye op today. She'll go off to her fosterer when I bring Monty home.
Poor little smudge has had a really hard time of it... she isa sweet little tortie who has been living in the garden for ages after not being allowed in the house cause teh child's asmathic (excuse spelling!) She has a very poorly eye and it turns out that it was recorded on her vet records when she was a kitten that she would need surgery as soon as she was fully grown for this painful problem. She is 7 now and the poor mite was in agony when she came in and she's not even had a return visit, let alone the surgery she needed! She's calmed down into a lovely purry little cat now she's had some pain relief and she's having her eyelid operated on today. ggrrrr!!!! We are so pleased we have her in care now and I will be finding her a VERY caring home to spend the rest of her days in.

Well I've had a very hectic day. Had a whole day of Cats Protection training at the NCC followed by picking the gorgeous Monty up from his stay at the vets. He is absolutely fine and really well. Certainly doesn't seem to have been bothered by the op at all! His wound is very small and the stiches are dissolvable ones inside and so nothing to worry about there. Having been monitored for 3 days as well means he is fine and well!
He seems to be happy to be home and has been all over me since we got back! Had a big groom too cause his tummy was a bit scruffy where he hadn't been brushed at the vets. He really is a cat who needs a good groom every day! We officially adopted him this evening as soon as he got home too so he's now part of the family!
