Title: Why do my cats massage my fluffy cushions?
Post by: kp76 on February 12, 2009, 14:36:33 PM
This isn't a serious health question but why do both my cats massage my fluffy cushions & my jumpers? They're almost in a trance like state when they do it & it can go on for ages. Lol

It's known as kneading - Kittens do this to get the milk from Mum teats - My Thai does this just before bedtime and she is 7 this year.  It's also a sign of being content.  :Luv:

Ditto what Gail says my boys do it to the cushions and to me when I am wearing my dressing down

It is cute - Thai does it at bedtime -she jumps on the bed - does her foot thing (as we call it) - generally on my leg. Then finally after about 5 minutes she settles down to sleep   :Luv: I love it, Zubin does it very rarely.but I have never seen zeb do it.

My lot do it to us when they are either settling down in out laps or going to sit beside us.

Skye also does it when she gets onto our bed at night.  It last blooming ages first me, then hubby, then plonks herself in between us - that plus the purring at a hundred decibels means we don't get to sleep for at least half an hour

My hubby says "here she goes with her plodging"  :evillaugh: :evillaugh:

  Plodging, isn't that something you do in a puddle or the sea?
I never thought about the mum & kitten feeding theory. You'd think it would be something they'd grow out of. I'm glad i have a rule in my house that means they aren't allowed on the beds & they get shut in the kitchen at night so i don't have to put up with the night time 'plodging'.

Lu does it to my fluffy cushions too. I don't mind him kneading it, it's when his little bottom starts to wiggle in a way that it shouldn't that freaks me out - perv  :evillaugh:

 I can see the relevance of plodging but where does the name making biscuits come from???
I glad my 2 don't do some sort of bum wiggling dance. That could be embarrassing if i had friends round.

I remember posting about this on Cat Chat, so apologies to anyone who knows the tale (tail?!)

My daughters cat, Lucky, had a fetish for woolen things.  He "fell in love" with a blanket on my daughter's bed and regularly tried to (there is no polite way of saying this!!) have sex with it.  And this was a cat that had been neutered and was probably about 10 when he first started his blanket relationship.

Later, we persuaded him to turn his attentions to an old pullover which became known as "Wa**y Woolie"   ..... :-[

And yes, he did seem to do it when it was most inappropriate ....

my Jack is a wool sucker.  he's also a dribbler when "padding", spend more than 5 minutes stroking him and you'll end up well and truly soaked

Since were on the subject ..... Hendrix has fallen madly in love with my dressing gown , which involves at least 10 minutes of kneading and waggling every time he finds it , so more fool me for draping it over myself on the bed the other night as extra insulation only to be awakened in a most unseemly fashion at 2am .....

Yep my little boy cat (13 months now) does his weired kneeding, "humping" and then licks him self very loudly.  He has been done.  His record is 3 times in 1 night.
My husband is so proud!!
