Title: Back Street Breeders - are there no legal guidelines?
Post by: JackSpratt on February 05, 2009, 16:42:51 PM: I was looking on the free ads site this morning and noticed four kittens being sold. One of them looked decidedly younger than the age they were advertised at, so I contacted the seller and received this response:

"No the kitten on the photo is one of the younger ones... he's about 6 weeks I think. I couldn't find the older ginger one when I was looking for them to take photos so just put a picture up of one of the other ones.

They are all darlings."

The bit that concerns me is "one of the younger ones." How many litters must there be? Is there anywhere this can be reported or is there nothing I can do?

As we all know, queens are bred on an indiscriminate basis for babaies to then be sold for £30 plus, sickly, undernourished, taken from mum, poorly socialised wretches that they are. And what they cannot get rid of at the end of the season is left for the rescues to pick up or are dealt with in other ways.

The majority of people that buy these little ones then think it is an easy way to make money and the cycle starts again.

Post by: Mark on February 05, 2009, 19:13:00 PM: I had a discussion with the :bum: PCA about this and was told as long as the cat/kittens are being fed and taken care of, they are doing nothing wrong and that it's not illegal to breed and sell kittens :tired: .

I really wish people could stop thinking about making a few quid and look after the cats they already have instead of using them as machines!

And yet they refused to investigate the ads I saw from someone offering to take in all pregnant cats and kittens. Theyu claimed there was nothing illegal in the ad :Crazy: - it was a total kop out from the only organisiation that has power to prevent cruelty - I have no time for them whatsoever.
