Title: Is she playing or is she annoyed?
Post by: ratscallions on February 04, 2009, 10:27:54 AM
I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to post here or not ... sorry.

I can't figure out whether my cat, who is a very friendly fussy cat, is playing with me or trying to tell me she's annoyed.

She comes to me for fuss and love. She lies on her back with her paws in the air. She stretches her forelegs and flexes  her paws ... all looking very luxurious.

Then she starts to grab my hand very very gently with her paws and chew on it .. again, very gently.

Play or had enough???

Hmmm .. well can't be the here here here .. coz I can't touch her tum when she's holding my hand like that ... unless she's trying to tell me she wants me to tickle her teeth.

Ooooo .. I wonder if she's got ticklish paw pads, and is trying to stop me tickling them. Sometimes when I stoke her tummy I tickle her paw pads coz she's flexing them and they look cute.

Sounds just like playfulness, is she still young?

Sounds a bit like one of my cats who used to do a similar thing where they want to interact but are just a little defensive ie if they don't like you to get too near eg if they don't like their tummies touched.

Max does this a lot, he'll roll on his back to show me his tummy, then as soon as I tickle him, he grabs me gently with his paws and gently bites my hands  :)

As long as she's not got all claws out and teeth sinking into your arms, I reckon she's playing and being affectionate  :Luv2:

Charlie does it all the time, he loves to grab my arm and gently bite my hand whislt bunny kicking at the same time.  Think it's his idea of a play fight!  With him it has nothing to do with tickling his belly he just likes to do it when I am on the computer!

I would use a toy rather than your hand, a hard habit to break once they have gotten used to playing with them

it's affection, but can get a bit carried away at times which could be painful. If you don't have a problem with lovebites on your hands, then I say go for it - mine do it too and I find it quite appealing ...

She doesn't like toys very much .. she thinks they're out to get her.

How about this as a compromise ?  :)

Edward used to do that all the time - and George always has too.

Edward was really gentle so you knew he was being affectionate - George is also being affectionate, but he's not so gentle, so it just hurts   >:(

Lol ... I'm probably not supposed to laugh at that am I.

I've received claws in the boobs twice in the last 24 hours, so you can laugh back :)

My Misha does it all the time, will plonk herself right in front of me, displays her stomach and churp if I don't touch her tummy but then when I do she does what you say and then gets over excited and carried away - she love sit, however has never done it to hubby and if hubby trys to have a little tickle when I do it she jumps straight up and away from him - Misha is all about mummy you see and not daddy so that way I know its affection with me.

Heheheheh .. you can't imagine why they call cats fickle can you ;)

Sienna shares herself around. The best way to get her attention is to sit in her chair, or to be the only person at home ... or to use your laptop!!!!
