Nigel my cat loving neighbour just came round to my house and he was shaking. He had moved some of the wood in his wood pile and found a partly skeletonised cat. He was very distressed and shaken. RIP Little cat, we don't know who you are

Horrible :( - I hope the poor cat didn't get stuck in there :'(
When I moved into my flat in London, I was turning the garden over and found a cat's skull - even that upset me. I decided to leave it as I assumed cat had been buried in the garden - something I could never do unless I was 100% sure I was staying in a house forever. No choice here as the ground is too hard anyway - it's a mix of stones and oyster shells :Crazy:

how awful - was it a direct neighbour - could Charlie have smelt him - I know that sounds horrible but I just wonder if it could be part of his anxiety

There are 6 houses between us. He doesn't think it was trapped as it could have got out quite easily. We are wondering if it is the tabby cat that a woman was looking for about 5 months ago. She had put posters up on lamp posts but the local school children tore them all up so we have no way of contacting her. It may have been injured on the much hated road and crawled there. I hope it didn't suffer it has really upsest us both today

they do hide away don't they, when my Algie had been hit by a car he managed to get back into the back garden and hide under the bay tree

How very sad- poor little thing :( And very distressing for you and your neighbour. My guess is a badly injured cat who went away quietly ..... RIP little puss.

Dawn could be right but his skitzing started before the find. However his wee was possibly around the time Nigel found the cat.

We get alot of ferals round here (thankfully we've nearly managed to trap them all) but I remember one morning going to peg some washing out and there was a kitten's head under my washing line, I had to ring Steve to come home and remove it we presume a fox maybe had got it the previous evening but we were both really upset and I will never forget.

Its probably too late (and sounds gruesome) but is there enough there that a microchip would still be around? If so would be worth having the body scanned just in case

I was just going to say what MM has said about the mirco-chip .....Could you also ring local vets and report what has been found ?
Is there no way of telling what colour he was ?

It was a tabby cat so far as the chip is concerned I honestly don't know. Nigel didn't go into too much detail but it was pretty far gone I think. :'(

And poor Nigel - what a horrible thing to find.
I once came across a cat that had been run over and killed on my way to the shop, and that was bad enough. I think I'd be traumatised if I found that.

Nigel just came round to say that he and his builder have buried the cat properly in his garden (he just covered it over yesterday as couldn't face it). His builder is a cat lover too and has put a little cross and they have named the plot "The grave of the Unknown Cat".

Just a thought - is it worth putting a sort of "in memorium" note out locally to let people know whats has happened - its just possible someone is still wondering what happened to their cat - or an ad in the freebie paper if its not too expensive? :-:

The problem is Wibblechick we have no idea where the woman lived. We know most of the people nearby and in surrounding avenues even just to nod at but Nigel had never seen this woman before so who knows where to leaflet>? Putting something up on the lamp post even wouldn't work cos the school kids tore her flyer down and shredded it.

WE have kids like that round here - little :censored:s Im afraid Ive emptied buckets of water over them in the past - actually Im NOT afraid - I quite enjoyed it!! The police said it was OK as long as I didnt let go of the bucket !! They've arrested the little :censored:s soooo many times for so many different things .... And why the water? I will spare the details but involved tormenting a cat >:(
Does your local paper have a missing pets page? Bit of a long shot .....

You never know ..... When I was about 25 (half my life time ago!) my parents took in two feral cats - a brother and sister. They came from Leigh Marsh, so were named Leon and Marsha.
One day - Marsha disappeared ...
My parents always wondered what had happend to her .... there was no trace and no-one seemed to know anything....
Nearly three years ago, my Mum died. I was telling a lady, Sheila, who had been a neighbour of my parents, when and where Mums funeral was. We talked about all sorts of things, including cats. And .... it turned out that about the time Mum and Dad had lost Marsha, Sheila had been on holiday and her son was looking after the house.
He found a dead black cat in the road and buried her in his Mums garden. He hadnt told Sheila at the time in case it upset her .... so -she had never known . -- Same time, same road - I think after all that time we could finally solve the Marsha mystery. When Sheila heard that it was probably Marsha, she invited me to her house and we (I) planted a little rose bush where Marsha was buried.

I had a neighbour who came very close to doing that for me ... Fortunately he had second thoughts and just left the body in a safe place for me to find (he didn't want to be the one to tell me). I am so glad he didn't hide Reynard's body as I would have spent the rest of my life searching for that lovely boy ... :(

Inspiration! Would the lady maybe have contacted local vets and left her details? A bit of a performance phoning around but Id be so grateful if I lost a cat and someone contacted me even if it was such sad news .....

just seen this. How terribly distressing, but Nigel sounds lovely. I hope in a way that is is someone's cat and they can at last know what happened to it. The worst is not ever knowing. :hug: to you and Nigel. And his builder too. There are some really nice people in the world.

Only one tabby reported missing at local vets and it was a Siamese type so def not this one as this one appears to have been long haired. don't really think there is much else to be done just let the little mite RIP now sadly
