Approx 2am: Duff duff duff duff duff duff duff duff duff duff. "Get out the bin". Silence.
2.03am: Duff duff duff duff duff duff duff duff duff duff CRASH! "Dave, you're a bad boy". Switch on light and CHILLI is staring back at me! Pick up bin, pick up contents, including half a bins worth of veggie peelings, or at least that's what it felt like. Turn bin wrong way round to discourage them and push back into slot under counter. Back to bed.
2.10am: Scratch rustle, scratch rustle, scratch rustle, scratch rustle. "You two, leave the bin alone!". Scratch rustle, scratch rustle, scratch rustle, scratch rustle. "Right, you win". Get up, deposit a few biscuits in each dish because clearly they are such deprived starved moggies they need an extra feed and go back to bed. Crunch crunch crunch. Purr purr purr in my ear, Dave snuggles up, silence descends.
4am: Scratch rustle, scratch rustle, scratch rustle, scratch rustle CRASH! Stick hand out, Dave still on bed. Chilli removing contents of bin to see if there is anything worth eating, Dave joins her. I give up, roll over and go back to sleep.
8am: Pull a sicky.
8.30am: Get up to find bin contents all over floor.
Dave was bad enough but now it would appear Chilli is also a scavenger and clearly they are not motivated by hunger but pure greed!

Sorry but that made me laugh out loud in the office
-
Oh dear, they've entered the wayward years :evillaugh:
Sorry, but that did make me chuckle
Hope you get a more restful night tonight
-
Spoilsport, they were only having fun :evillaugh: :evillaugh: not to mention probably starving from lack of food

Oh yes, Dave in particular is wasting away, so much he has a distended tummy :shify: That's what he would lead others to believe anyway ;)

I ahve a simple human butterfly bin - chosen for its catproofness. I confess i ahve the even more expensive one with the stainless steel lid.

Not worth me investing in a new bin what with me emigrating in a few weeks :evillaugh: I will however be investing in the most cat proof bins, kitchen and bathroom, once I get settled somewhere over there. I may also invest in some earplugs :evillaugh:
-
Never had a problem with cats going through the bins. There is always food available :evillaugh:
I have tried posh bins but ended up buying a cheapo Tesco value plastic one as it is easily bleach-able and scrub-able - in fact I often put the lid in the dishwasher.

I have a posh brabantia bin with a lid you have to push down a bit to get it to open. Mine use it as a step to the worksurfaces. :tired:
-
We had a similar thing when Jasper moved in- He taught the others how to jump on the worksurfaces which they didn't do at all (well not in fornt of me anyway!) within hours of his arrival. We have got all 3 of them out of doing it now (Well at least when we are there anyway!) but it shows how easily led they all are!

I thought my cats were well behaved because I had brought them up well........
Then, when I had two spaces in my fur-family (down to two cats), I decided I wanted clever cats.
I ended up with a Siamese/Bengal cross (yes, I was looking for a kitten like that) and a pet-quality Egyptian Mau (he stole my heart).
They are everywhere. They did not learn this, it came naturally. Flynn (the Mau) climbed to the top shelves in both the kitchen and the office the first time he was left out of the livingroom (their base when they first arrived). The counters are the least of my worries. He would climb into the freezer and steal the frozen peas, given the chance, never mind the frozen prawns. He is completely unworried by water sprays (he loves the rain and paddles in the bath). The only way to stop him doing something is to physically intercept him (can't count the number of times I have done that) and to shout at him (which I could never do because he is scared by loud noises).
The older two are very well behaved ladies.
Flynn and Mitzi are hooligans!

Mine have food all the time so no bin thing ;D
However Ducha has started waking me up every hour or so during the night and is very bossy cos he wants me to go to bed earlier and get up earlier.....................ITS MY BED!

Food all the time is not an option because Dave will eat continuously 24 hours a day given half the chance, never a scrap of food left in dishes here, he even finishes any Chilli leaves. I would end up with the fattest cat ever known.
Dave also like me to get up earlier, a good hour earlier please but I think this is more in the interests of his tummy then to have my company.
Can you see a theme here............................... :evillaugh:
