Title: Bad zooplus packaging - pics of latest delivery
Post by: Susanne (urbantigers) on January 25, 2009, 20:43:53 PM
I mentioned on another thread that the packaging on my most recent zooplus order was the worst yet.  Here's pics of some of the boxes.  For once, the litter was actually packed worse than the tins of food.  Obviously it's a weight thing - 2 14kg bags of cat litter are going to need a pretty strong box.  I am hesitant about complaining though in case they decide not to ship cat litter overseas!

This was one of the boxes - containing 2 bags of litter

I didn't need to open that one.  The litter just fell out the bottom  :shify:  I dread to think what it would have been like if I'd been out for the 2nd attempt at delivery and they'd taken it back to the depot.

The 2nd box also contained 2 bags of litter, but one had come open and been re-sealed with sellotape

Not good, is it?  >:(

It won't get any better if you don't complain - either they will stop shipping or you will stop ordering - and why pay for half a bag?

Complain ... unless people complain they will continue to do it.

I no doubt will complain but I do worry that they will start charging for delivery or stop delivering heavy items overseas.  I'd find it very difficult to get litter if they did as I can't carry anything other than one small container of litter on the bus.

that's why I shop online - if it was just me, I would go to the supermarket but between cat litter and dog food I can not carry it - so online is the only sensible solution ...

They just need to invest in some stronger boxes .... We ship stuff all over the world to exhibitions and most of it goes in cardboard boxes and it never arrives looking like that! (well not unless it's been kicked round an american airport!!!   )

Definitely complain, my latest complaint resulted in them saying they will refund £3 into my account.  I replied saying that was very nice but I'd rather they took on board my comments and started using stronger boxes for heavy deliveries  :tired:

That's really bad packaging.   I know you don't want them to stop delivering litter but they really should until they review their packaging of it - half of it is being lost anyway through split bags.

You can always word your complaint in a non-complainy type way, call it 'feedback' or something along those lines, tell them that you thought you'd let them know as it would be awful if people stopped using their company because of the packaging or something.  Make it sound like you're being ever so helpful rather than complaining  :naughty:

I've had some pretty bad packaging from zooplus but never that bad!  I don't mind bodged packaging if it keeps their costs down, but I would like things to actually arrive in good condition

Oh I would complain without a doubt. I order bags of 15kg dog food and Migs rabbit stuff is usually 50+Kg or so and the packaging is exceptional. The boxes are always solid. I would expect exactly the same if it were international. There is simply no excuse for it.

Have to say that all these stories of bad packaging has put me off of ordering from zooplus. I just don't want to deal with a company like that

Well I obviusly spoke far too soon when I said Ihadn't had any problems with zooplus deliveries  :evillaugh:

I received my order today (delivered to work as normal).  The first box containing a large bag of Royal canin dry was fine.  However the two bags of golden grey cat litter arrived with a piece of cardboard with my delivery address on it sellotaped to one of the bags and that was it .... NO BOX whatsoever!  The driver informed me the box had collapsed completely as the contents were far too heavy for it ... so I was left standing in reception with two large bags of Golden Grey (thankfully intact) and a piece of cardboard!

Needless to say I have complained to zooplus.

I am happy to contact the Zooplus representative on behalf of Purrs members again about the packaging and if you like, send her the pictures that you have put up.

I looked at their site yesterday and thought that things were sent out from their UK warehouse and not from Germany because if you look at the postage and packing section, you can see all the points that stuff goes free.

I would not mention any members names of course. Last time she admitted they had problems but were being sorted out.....late deliveries and such but the packaging looks terrible.

Let me know.

Am I missing a trick here but why doesn't everyone get litter delivery by Tescos or Sainsburys?  :shify:

OH has sent all kinds of stuff around the world and we know about packaging. Putting something as heavy as 2 14kg sacks of cat litter in a cupboard box is just barking mad!

Because neither of those sell a litter I like at a price I like.  I use clay ultra clumping and sainsburys version is ok at a push but nowhere near as good as the golden grey for odour control.  The big bags of golden grey from zooplus are a great price and the litter is good.

That crossed my mind as well.

I'm sure Cat's best OKO would be OK though  :shify:

They seem to be getting worse instead of better - my last parcel from Zooplus had been repackaged by DHL.  I have recently ordered some Arden Grange from K9 Kapers and the packaging was brilliamt and the parcel arrived in 2 days.

I have today placed a large order of Animonda Carny tins and two bags of Cats Best along with some other bits and bobs. We shall see what state it all arrives in :tired:

My local pet shop sells the litter and at a similar price to Zooplus but if I'm already ordering other things I may as well take advantage.

Just think, in a months time I'll be trailing all round Auckland looking for equally good cat litter and food, just as I'd cracked both here. Oh the joys of relocating.

Gill if you could contact them that would be great.  I have just received an email from Zooplus following my complain requesting that I send pics of the "damaged parcel" .... not sure how I'm suppose to do that exactly as there wasn't any box to take a pic of and the small piece of cardboard that was attached has been thrown in the bin  >:(

My delivery came in a shockingly huge box on wednesday (only good thing is the cats love it!) and they sent the wrong cat post, upon emailling them they then offered to send me the "right" one which is actually the duplicate of a 2nd order i placed for a different tree to the first  :tired: i just want a small and a large tree not a midget kitten one or 2 large  :thumbd: :thumbd:

This is the 3rd time in a row that iv been sent the wrong items so not only do i have to moan about packaging and dented tins but now i have to rearrange collection of wrong stuff or have a 2 week delayed refund and not get the food i want.

Feel free to send comments Gill and i dont mind her knowing who i am  :evillaugh:

Sam, im on the hunt for alternative litter to golden grey, if i find anything il let you know, i wish i didnt have to bother with them but £8.99 for 14kg is too good a price

What I will do however is use quotes from this thread plus pictures

What I will do however is use quotes from this thread plus pictures

Here's a few more quotes for you then...

My Zooplus order came today and true to form they sent 23kg in a flimsy box which DHL absolutely COVERED in 'repackaged by DHL' tape to try and get it here in one piece :innocent:  The other box was 30kg but it had a green plastic strip thingy so survived the joureny.  I ordered a few new (canned) foods to try and the majority of them are dented.

I've emailed Zooplus asking them to use stronger boxes and even charge MORE for delivery as long as they package them correctly so will see what they say but was wondering will the dented tins be OK to use?

I have stressed how this happens with every heavy order that I've ever had as they're not packaged adequately and they use the flimsiest cardboard with one strip of sticky tape

I've always found the opposite, I paid the extra £1 to have it delivered by DHL (GLS is free still) as at least DHL attempt to repair the boxes.  All the ones I've ever had from GLS (Parcelforce) have been in a much worse condition.  Having said that I order 3 months food at a time so the weight is always 20-30 kg per box but it's common sense that flimsy cardboard won't withstand 20kg of weight

Hum would you buy anything that waas already open, no I dont think so! That is shocking. They need to find out who is causing the damage as I can only imagine the package leaves them fine.

As for dented cans etc I would demand a price reduction, supermarkets do it.

The problem is the packaging, they use the flimsiest single walled cardboard boxes for orders weighing 30kg   All they need to do is use stronger boxes for the heavy deliveries and we'd all live happily ever after!

Yup.  And of course many of us aren't in at the first attempt to deliver (cos you don't know exactly when it's coming) so they get taken back to the depot at least once before being re-delivered.  Don't suppose that helps.

I remember when I ordered a cat tree from them a few years ago - it came by DHL who do the really heavy stuff, I think (or did back then) and it came virtually re-packaged with DHL tape.

Back in late November/early December I ordered a 10kg bag of RC dry food and it came with a hole in the actual bag of food.  I didnt complain but wish I had.  I paid the extra pound for DHL delivery as the depot's not too far away and they didnt patch up the hole in the cardboard box  :-:

Its not just the crap boxes and generous one line of tape (wow!) they are incompetent at packing full stop. Take the pic of my order of loose tins in a box 3 times the necessary size, no bubble wrap or chippings to stop them bouncing around, i mean duh how thick do you have to be to work that out?!

I used to package glass bottles of medicines and they always got to their destination in one piece, theres no excuses for it, they are incompetent.

About half the tims were bashed and dented too, I was very unimpressed as it was delivered to work and I spent a good half hour clearing it all up! Have sent my own complaint too so it will be doubled up with everyone elses. I did say in my complaint that I would be more than happy to pay for delivery if it meant sufficient packaging, one strip of giant bubble wrap on the top of everything is not really going to do much now is it!

I am a bit cross with Zooplus at the moment too. I ordered a double Cat Mate automatic feeder from them which arrived very quicky, no packaging problems, however, I couldn't get the timers to work.  Changed the batteries twice.  Emailed zooplus who emailed me back, almost by return, stating they were sorry and if I sent it back they would replace it immediately.  I emailed them straight back asking the best way to send it back.  That was over a week ago now and no response.  Anyway it matters not as I have managed to get them working but it's not the point is it?

just received a Zooplus delivery with the box open -  I put it down though to not adding padding to contents, leaving heavy tins to bash against sides - compared with a company like Lakeland, who secure contents with lots of brown paper, this is not good enough
