Hello all. When you have a :hungey: cat/kitten that wants feeding what do you feed him or her on?
I am starting to do some research into cat meat v's cat biscuits as I am thinking of putting my Tiggy onto IAMS food for kittens.
Any thoughts welcomed! :thanks:

Bozita, wet with some biscuits left out all the time.

Not that many of us on here use Iams becasue of their horrible reputation on amimal testing.
Mine are all on Orijen dry and Felix or Bozita wet.
James Welbeloved is a good quality dry food.

Oh sorry I didn't know that IAMS tested on animals :Crazy:
At the moment Tiggy is on feilx she loves the meat in gravy, but I want to get her onto a better quality food for her coat and teeth.

I am very against Iams - apart from all the alleged animal testing (there are a few websites about it) I don't think it is very good quality. A lot of vets say it causes urinary tract problems. A lot of vets used to sell it but I haven't seen any vet sell it for quite a few years. There are plenty of other good brands such as Royal Canin, James Wellbeloved etc. I have tried lots of foods. I ordered Arden Grange yesterday which is one of the best. Hopefully they will like it.
I think a mix of wet and dry is good. The better dry foods have a lot of nutrients you don't get in any wet food but at the same time, I don't think a 100% dry diet is good. What I do is feed Felix or Whiskas wet and a good quality dry. I have tried quite a few expensive wet foods but they never get eaten.

Iams isnt a great food and is owned by one of the worst animal abusing companies on this planet - P&G. They claim they no longer torture animals for their pet foods but they did before.
Wet food is really important for cats, they are designed to get their water from their food eg mice so a cat that eats just dry food never drinks enough to compensate. I believe the reason so many cats suffer from bladder problems is dry food.
I would reccomend you feed her a good quality high meat wet food, some low grain biscuits and some raw for treats eg chicken wings. They will keep her teeth nice and clean, like these :briggin:

Memphis was on JWB or Arden Grange and Felix Jelly varieties (only the boxes that didn't contain rabbit). Which I was very happy with.
He's now on prescription C/d dry and S/d wet [although changing to C/d wet next week] ... for bladder/urinary problems.

Currently on Animonda Carny wet food and Burns dry (won it in the auction).
In the past I have fed Orijen and James Wellbeloved dry and Bozita wet.
Zooplus is a great site for good quality wet foods, most dry foods mentioned can be found in pet shops (can also be bought on Zooplus though).

Never heard of Bozita wet. Where do you buy that from?

my vet is completely against dry food because he believes it is a major contribution in FLUTD. my pets have cooked forthglade because all ingrediants are fit for human consumption.
the forthglade puppy food smells delicious :rofl:

I'm using bozita for wet (going down REALLY well ;)) and sanabelle dry (from zooplus) i looked into all different dry foods, and unfortunately orijen just worked out too expensive for me, sanabelle still has very good quality ingredients but is under half the price. :)

Try that for dry and keep on with wet food. You can request samples from most companies if you dont want to buy although you normally get 300g bags for about £2 of most brands

I feed a mix of raw (home prepared), high meat content (no grains/cereals/fillers) wet food such as Nature's Harvest, Forthglade, as well as occasional Applaws/Encore and HiLife pouches (the complete ones) - and once in a while Whiskas Supermeat tins. Dry is just fed as treats and thats usually Hi Life.
Dry food doesnt actually clean teeth, in fact it can cause dental problems, instead of abrading the teeth and keeping them clean, it shatters and the debris sticks around the teeth (either that or they swallow it whole with no cleaning effect whatsoever!) I agree with MM, that dry food is also an issue in urinary tract problems.

Wet food all the way for me (although Mosi does have a small amount of dry). I used to feed dry food at breakfast and supper, with some wet food at teatime for a treat, but I am now convinced that dry food does nothing for cats (except be convenient).

I'd feed raw ideally, but that's not practical for me at the moment.
I feed a variety of brands and aim for those with a high meat content and no nasties (colourings, preservatives etc). I feed hi life, tesco finest, tesco luxruy and tesco just nature, applaws/almo nature/encore (all pretty much the same), Pets at Home Purely, animonda carny, bozita, schmusy, cosma and probably a few more that I cant think of right now. Jaffa is allowed some felix a few times a week because he likes it (low meat content so I'm not keen on him having it too often).
For Mosi's dry it's usually Orijen, although he is sampling the new Applaws dry food at the moment (it's going down well) but if I don't have that in I give him hi life or james wellbeloved.

How do you find a 100% wet food diet does to their poops? My 2 are on JWB and i used to give them tinned food too. But lately they are only on JWB as they are being looked after by my ex and he doesnt bother feeding them the meat >:(

Mainly wet food for mine - For Jerry and Gizzy its normally Felix AGAIL , and in Beavis' case its whatever I can persuade him to eat. At the moment he is liking the Encore range but you can bet if I buy a load he will decide he hates it. :tired:

I feed a predominantly wet diet of high meat content foods - Porta 21, Schmusy, Hermanns, Miamor, Applaws and Animonda (all from Zooplus) as well as Almo Nature from our local pet shop. Blip has to have some dried because she has anal gland problems so I feed Royal Canin Mature, which is 6% fibre, and a bit of Nutrifyba.
I also give her the occasional pouch of Gourmet Pearl just because she likes it.

It depends what sort of wet food you are feeding. Some wet foods contain cereals as fillers and thats generally not good for poops! ;)

Orijen dried (high meat, no cereal) with an evening treat of Applaws (high meat/fish no cereal). Improvements all around (appetite, coats, food wastage, smell of poos) since I changed from Hills Science Diet.

I didn't find any difference in the poop when I switched Jaffa to an all wet diet from his mixed wet and dry diet.

Ours get fed a variety.
Mostly wet food from Felix / Whiskas (they won't eat the higher meat content stuff - they're processed food boys all the way!) a couple of times a day - and dry food that's out most of the time.
The dry food varies depending how much cash I have at the time - when I'm flush it's Wellbeloved or Hill's - when I'm not it's whatever I can afford (normally whiskas or go cat).
They occasionally get given person food (chicken or fish), but they don't always eat it - tend to reject it in favour of cat food.

My guys are fed on Royal Canin brand.
