Oliver the new oldie, he has had diarrhoea for a day or so but today i have noticed the blood, its kind of pink in colour. So what could this be? I have also changed his food to kitekat, if that makes any difference.

Well he's got the runs, there was quite a bit in the tray, but only a small bit on the floor with blood in it.
Just read this could be caused by stress, which he is and very scared.

I don't know the cause of it but Dot has had recurrent diarrhoea for some time and quite a lot of it has had blood in it. I have been told on several occasions that this happens quite a bit with cats and is rarely anything to worry about. From what you say, stress sounds likely but it's best to get a vet to check to be sure.

This is a new cat, he was living as stray untill 3 weeks ago, when I took him on. He is very scared and hides most of the day, only going about the house on a night . And another problem, he is that big I dont think I would get him into a cat box, He's easily an 8-9 kg cat.

Well, as for how commonplace it is, I can only report what vets and vet nurses have told me (and we've spoken to quite a few). Despite having had this a number of times, Dot's had no lasting probs... even the diarrhoea has gone now.
Re boxes, there are boxes big enough for very large cats. I bought mine at the vets - it's an open cage-y type thing. I was looking around PaH yesterday and they have carriers in all sizes - you could even get a small dog carrier. The cage type is much easier to get the cat into, as it is top-opening and this is much less stressful for Dot. She also seems to like being able to see all around. Team Svartalfheims have big NFCs, they might be able to offer some advice.
If the whole vet experience is too much for Oliver, they could come to him... no doubt it'll cost and arm and a leg though.

has he been wormed recently? Thats always a good place to start. If he has the runs then he may have easily broken a small blood vessel in the area hence the blood.
Eliminate the possiblility of worms. Then starve for 24 hours and feed him with some fish or chicken and see how he goes from there. You can buy panacur from veruk.
then a treip to the vet - unless of course he is showing any other symptoms.

Panacur doesnt do the most common tapeworm so a drontal would be better, and if hes that big he would probably need 2 tubes :evillaugh:
What have you changed his food from, thats probably the cause of it, some cats just cant eat other brands :tired:

sorry meant a probiotic like prokolin but couldn't remember the name and my eyes touched on the panancur on my shelf. I'll go back to my hibernation! :-[

Yes he really is that big, put it this way Ted is nearly 6kg, and Oliver is 3 times the size of him. :scared: so he may be more.
He's the biggest cat I have ever seen thats why he's called Olliver the meowy monster puss lol
So I will try to get the scardy cat to the vets and get some wormer. He was eating some rubbish from nettos, i have since put him on kitekat cans, although he is still getting the rubbish as his owner gave me a few cans. Should I stop feeding him the crap or the kitekat? His poops really stink aswell :sick:

Byron has sometimes had this and I told the vet, she wasn't overly concerned but it may be a good idea just to mention it to your vet.

Yeah I will, he's nearly 11 so would this have anything to do with it?
He's been fine since being here, just scared and a bit stressed, maybe this could be causing it?

Byron is really old, going on 25 but seems very healthy, I think what my vet said was tummy irritation (for whatever reason, food allergies stress etc) can cause that but it was nothing to worry about - probably as she has no other health issues. Do let us know how you get on.

The £13 carrier from Argos can fit a 9kg cat in - Tom was 8.96kg when he came, and he had some room in the carrier. Fingers crossed the worming works, you can get drontal that does 6kg cats, and VetUK do sell it, think it is less than £2 a tablet.

Alice sometimes has blood in her poo. She had all kinds of tests including a poo sample being sent away for tests and they all came up negative. She gets it if she has eaten grass - which I can't stop her doing as she has access to the garden. I did a lot of googling last year on it and the general concensus is blood in poo for cats is rarely anything serious - still worth mentioning to the vet.

He 's been better today, well I mean there has been no blood but still the runs. Come to think of it I had been sprinkling a few biscuits on his food and i dont think he has ever had biscuits before, he has hardly any teeth so his owner would of now give him biscuits. Im gonnd phone the vets tomorrow been ill today.
Aww and when I woke up he was on the bad wanting a love ;D now thats a change
Or maybe he was wanting food as I didnt feed him last night :evillaugh:
But anyways he's comming on good and not getting as startled by me or the kids.

:shocked: My 4 month old kitten has been suffering too! I have called the vets today and they are giving me a liquid antiboitic to give her and have told me to feed her small amounts of chicken and leave water down for her and nothing else. I am so worried about her.

Is Tiggy regularly wormed with a good quality wormer?

Its best that way but if diarrhoea is caused by worms they arent going to just go away! I would give the antibiotics and see how she goes as they can upset tummies. I would suggest either drontal or milbemax, you will need to accurately weigh her tho. Has she ever been treated?

No Tiggy hasn't ever been treated for worms but she will be as soon as she is well enough. The meds she is on are working a treat and she is is loving eating freshly cooked chicken!

The trouble is that the worms could be casuing the problem so if she isnt wormed she wont get totally better - if a kitten has the runs our vet tries worming before anything else. She should be wormed every month up to 6 months old and then every 3 months.

Tiggy will be wormed when she has recovered enough as the vets have said that at the moment it is pointless. The good news is that she has improved no end and isn't having diarrhoea anymore.

He's doing well, no more runs. I have changed his food to all kitekat now so I think his tum is starting to settle down and his poohs aint that smelly anymore, so obviously the cheap food me thinks.
I think it was the biscuits that had given him the runs as it was over the few days I was putting them on his food. I will learn lol

Glad to hear Oliver is doing well. Charlie used to have the most foul smelling large poops when he ate Felix. Since I changed him over to Bozita the poos are smaller and there is little pong.
