Hi All,
My little one Toto, who is just over 7 months has had a re-occuring problem that was first thought to be cystitus. In total she has been on 4 weeks of anti biotics but as soon as she has come off them, the symptoms, in particular traces of blood in her urine and weeing in inappropriate places return. Last Friday when she was speyed whilst under the vet x-rayed her kidneys. The week before he took another clean urine sample which was on tis occasion sent off, he has the results and has said that it's e coli bacteria that's been found (Toto, her siblings and their Mother were left in a house when the owner moved and a kind neighbour fed them through the letterbox for days before the RSPCA were able to gain entry, but hwat worries me is that it was dry food and they most likely didn't have access to freash water) He found something on the x-ray that he showed us that he believes may be a pocket of bacteria that has formed a cyst, he is getting a second opinion on this tomorrow from his partner in the practice. He did say that he hasn't seen this before in such a young kitten, but if it is this then it's operable and they will remove the cyst. Toto's very small for her age but has a ferocious appetite and so far she's a real fighter, which is what's keeping me optimistic.
Has anyone got any experience with anything similar that can re-assure me that she will be fine.

I haven't any experience of this myself, but there are many more experienced people on here who should be able to advise. I just wanted to acknowledge your enquiry as some of them typically come on later in the day.

Hi there Sarah,
I have heard of E Coli urinary infections, in fact a cat i am fostering at the moment has the very same thing, but i haven`t heard about the cyst that you mentioned. Before surgery is carried out it might be worth seeing if your vet can do an ultrasound scan as these can be very useful and sometimes slightly better than x-rays alone. Some vets do scans themselves and others have to refer you for this.

Hi All,
Sorry in my flap yesterday i put that the suspected cyst was on Toto's kidneys when in fact it's on her bladder. I have spoken with the vet just now and he's pretty certain that what it is and if we can get the bacteria cleared then he will look to operate, he also said that she will be able to function just fine with a little less bladder.
I will keep you all posted, I can't tell you how relieved I am that it looks cureable!
