Title: So daft, i'm throwing money away at the vets
Post by: Zenith (Liz) on January 07, 2009, 22:41:35 PM
I didn't put this in the health section as it doesn't merit it *sigh*  :innocent:

I don't think i've spoken about this on Purrs but anyone who sees photos of Nova's left eye can see he has a small problem with it. :(

When he was a baby play fighting with his siblings, one of them (I'm blaming Mia!) caught his inner eyelid with their claw and it developed an infection though luckily it missed his eye.  I hadn't paid a deposit and Anne told me I was under no obligation to take him but i'd fallen in love so waited till he was healthy to come home with me.

His eye generally causes no problems but over Sunday I noticed the third eyelid looking pink so I booked us in to see his vet.  I've seen her tonight and there's nothing wrong with him  :shy:  I walked out of there with no Medication just a £28 consultation fee for 5 minutes lol.  I'm spending my christmas money on needless vet visits as i'm a paranoid cat mum!  At least she weighed him for me he's 4.67Kg which is good as mums been telling me he's too skinny under all him fur at 10-ish months old.

Well he'll probably always have a watery eye but he's such a happy little boy that it doesn't annoy him -  ;D  Him and his sister got catnip bubbles from the pets at home by my vet from the ordeal so they didnt do too badly.  They love each other so much they pine when seperated from each other  :Luv2:

This is what his eye is like when he's ok, the bottom picture is when he's like he was on Sunday

He is a doll, I will have in inflict more photos on you all when I get the hang of my camera :)

Off to sleep now.  It's so cute, if I or my partner call out 'Bedtime' Nova will run to the food of the stairs, then as soon as you put your foot on the first step he races up to meet you at the bedroom door  ;D

Night all!

Think I can see a little problem in the bottom picture but it may just be a reflection.

My first cat Kocka used to have lots of probs with her eyes but I used to always have a tube of fulmicide sp?, and one drop of that and she was OK again.

Franta also gets lots of conjunctivitus but it clears up by itself if left alone, think its brought on by stress too.

I would stay away from vets unless there is real inflamation or yelow stuff coming out of it which will mean an infection and you will need something like that cream probably......actually its called drops but comes in a tube and it comes out in clear thick drops.

Nova is just gorgeous  ;D

OOOO all that fur  :Luv2:

I would buy a clenser to drop into his eye when they become inflaimed, could just be a case of needing a wash  :)

Ahh we've all done it. I kept taking my cav to the vets 'cos every few weeks she wakes up unable to open her eyes properly. I'd convinced myself she was on deaths door, turns out it's just a breed trait related to the bug eyes. :shy:

I would say you were very wise and it is always best to air on the side of caution, it is worth the cost of the consultation in my opinion for peace of mind. Sadly so many people don't take their pets to the vets soon enough and wait until tomorrow to see how it is, often it is then too late.

Lovely looking little one, then again  aren’t they all?

Not daft at all

I always go on instinct, if something appears wrong, I'll get it checked out.

Its how I discovered Max's CRF last year, I noticed him drinking a bit more, and asked for bloods to be done.

It doesn't make you paranoid, it makes you a good slave

Not daft, just a dedicated cat Mum (albeit a poor one now  :evillaugh:).  Better to take them when you spot something and be told it's nothing instead of waiting for it to develop into something serious I say  :)

I remember when I took Riley to the vet for his cut paw, when I rang them it was bleeding heavily and by the time he got the appointment a few hours later it had stopped and looked like a paper cut  :evillaugh: The vet looked at his paw and asked was that the only reason I had bought him in?  He ended up gluing it and charging me £8 for the entire visit as he obviously felt sorry for the hypochondriac cat Mum  :evillaugh:

Nothing wrong with being a paranoid cat mum! Loving his nice fluffy kitten coat  ;D

Glad you are feeling a bit more reassured about his weight now as well.

I wish my vet was that charitable  :evillaugh:

Thanks all for reassuring me that i'm not too crazy, I just worry, :)

Oh and thanks for the compliments, i'll be sure to pass them onto Fluffbutt  :naughty:

I think Pinball and Nova need to come to an agreement, Nova can have some of Pinball's 7.?kg weight and Nova can donate some of his coat to Pinball!

What on earth are you feeding him?  I love Nova to death but do wish he'd grown a bit bigger :shy:

He has Royal Canin Indoor Longhair most of the time. I got told by the vet and the judges at the show that he needs to bulk up a bit though as he's very big size wise for his age but his weight hasn't quite caught up with his size yet so when I next order food I'll have to order some RC Kitten for him to get a bit of weight onto him (so watch out for a very tubby Bilbo soon as he inhales kitten food!! :evillaugh:).

Mine still have RC kitten, I picked up a free RC maine coon 31 sample last night and nova went mad for it, I'm still not sure what to change their food to?

The Maine Coon is a good due to the size of the pieces as they actually crunch it a bit more. Only thing to watch with it is that it is quite high in fat/calories so you'd just need to keep an eye on them with it and maybe change them to a lower fat food if they started to get a bit tubby.

I personally like the Indoor Longhair for indoor cats (especially neutered ones) as it's good at reducing furball frequency during moulting season which is always a bonus and it's designed with indoor cats requirements in mind.

I'll have a look at that then too :)  We had our first furball in months today, I think it's Nova's revenge for being taken to the vets last night  :evillaugh:

Just uploading some more photos now :)
