Title: Milly seems to be poorly today
Post by: fluffybunny on December 13, 2008, 17:31:02 PM
She was a bit quiet and grumpty this morning but I assumed it was the weather, but she's now snuck upstairs and is napping quietly, and has also just used the litter tray (she NEVER uses the litter tray!) and has produced a small quantity of pale brown goo   She's also off her food.  I've booked an appt for first thing in the morning, hope it's nothing serious, I think it's likely that she's eaten something that's upset her, as she does have a habit of eating the wildlife she brings home

keep a close eye on her and make sure she is getting fluids - she may get dehydrated ...

Thanks - how can I encourage her to drink or is it just a case of take the water to her rather than wait for her to come down to the water?

I would want to see her drinking, so if you can stay in the same room with her and her water that would be good. Checking for dehydration involves pinching up the loose skin behind her neck. It should collapse straight back into shape when you release. If it stays in the peak of the pinch, then she needs to see a vet before tomorrow morning...

She's just had something to drink and also a small amount of plain white fish which was also quite wet.  She's still obviously feeling poorly but I feel a bit happier now she's eaten and drunk - and I'll be keeping an eye out to check that it stays down!  I'm not drinking any wine tonight though just in case she gets worse and needs to go to the emergency vet...thank crunchie for pet insurance!

Milly seems to be a little better this morning, she was up and about when I got up and has had some breakfast.  I'm going to take her to the vet anyway as I have an appointment and she's certainly not 100%.

The vet thinks she has colitis so she has antibiotics and some paste stuff for the diarrhoea...she does have a dreadful habit of eating any wildlife that happens to find its way into her mouth so it wouldn't surprise me if something among that was the culprit

Yes she was last wormed about a month ago, I tend to do her about every 6 weeks - 2 months depending on seasonal variance in little furries

Getting the antibiotic in her was easier than I had anticipated, she pushed it around the bowl with her food and spat it out a couple of times so I tried the wedge-between-knees-and-chuck-down-throat option and it actually seemed to work!   She's definitely feeling much better this evening already though  ;D
