Hi Everyone,
New to the forum and just wondering if anyone can offer any advice.
We have an 8month old kitten called Munki who is a house cat. She's an adorable little bundle but has concerned us a little with her recent behaviour.
Over the couple of weeks she has begun crying a great deal. Over the last few days she has completely gone off her food and the poor thing was sick yesterday.
We fed her tinned tuna a couple of times last week. Could it be anything to do with that? I'm hearing that tuna can play havoc with their kidneys!
We're just concerned as we have no idea what to feed her at the minute as cat food seems to be going down like a lead balloon. I fed her this morning before I left for work and when I returned she hadn't touched it.
I've had someone suggest that she could be in heat. Is this a possibility?
Your help would be appreciated.

is she neutered?
have you had her checked by a vet?

She isn't neutered, no. We didn't want to just yet.
One other thing I should mention after reading the general guide on here. I emptied her litter tray the other day and the smell was horrendous. Her urine had an almost chemical smell to it that knocked me sideways. I'm not certain whether this is in fact urine or spray.
Also, she is scratching the cupboards which she has never done before.
Something is untoward but what, we're unsure. Thanks for the super quick response! :Luv:

I thinkyou need to have her checked out by a vet cos the smell shouldnt be like that.

If you are using 'crystals' for the cat litter, then they can disguise the smell while accumulating vast quantities of urine and when you remove the top layer the stench will knock you down. It smells like ammonia but very intense. If she is not eating and she is not spayed, and she is 8 months old then being in season is a good bet. Other signs of being in season are rolling on the floor lifting her tail in an 'inviting' manner, being super affectionate then biting you, and generally being a bit 'boneless'. If she is aso doing that then she is more than likely in season.
If she is not, then get her to the vets quickly.
As for too much tuna - too much fish in general is bad for cats - it is a cartoon myth that cats live on fish. She should have a variety of foods in her diet and they should be 'complete' foods to make sure she is getting the right balance of nutrients.
While she is off her food, I suggest you try her with some lightly poached chicken or raw liver (my cats go crazy over raw liver).

I would suggest you go to your vet to have her checked, even if it ends uo that she's fine, it is better to check and you can also disucc her spay. I agree with BC that she may well be in season as this would be a good bet for an 8 month old unneutered cat. As much as you say you don't want to do it yet... can I ask why she isn't spayed? It's incredibly important to have cats spayed as soon as if not before they reach sexual maturity as it can prevent a whole host of medical and beaviour problems as well as the obvious thing of not adding to the allready huge, cat population. I would also try to entice her with something gentkle on her tum like poached chicken, and offer it to her slightly warm as t makes it nice and smelly which is more tempting to kittie. I hope she feels better soon and you get he eating again. IS she drinking normally?

Entire cats urine does smell more but she could also have a nasty infection, a vet check essential. If she doesnt eat soon she can run into problems :(
