Title: Worried about Charlie
Post by: Maddiesmum on December 09, 2008, 20:28:02 PM
He got on the tray at 5.45 and had diarrhoea.  It was a horrible darkish greeny, muddy colour.  I rang the vet who said to see how he goes tonight and gave me a provisional appointment for tomorrow afternoon.  At 7.45 he had more diarrhoea but this was a more normal colour.

I can only imagine he's eaten something which didn't agree with him, and his body is expelling it pretty quickly?

Hope his tum settles down tonight, and you don't have to use that vet visit tomorrow x

Sounds like he has eaten something nasty - hopefully he can clear his system and avoid a vet visit!

Hope it's cleared up by the morning, poor Charlie (and you).  Like the others have said, did he eat anything he shouldn't have, do you know? Hope a vet's visit isn't necessary and that he and you aren't up all night. Can you get him to drink a bit so he's not dehydrated? love to you both  xxx

He was a bit miserable and subdued last night.  Had a little more diarrhoea at 11.15 soI decided to sleep downstairs so I could keep his tray clean.  Fortunately no more diarrhoea and he was demanding food at midnight so gave him a little RC Sensitive.  This morning he had a semi solid poo, much better than previously and ate more RC for his breakfast.  I have to pop out for an hour later but am going to monitor him and if no further diarrhoea by about 2.30 will cancel the vet appointment and keep him on RC for a couple of days.

Hope Charlie's tum and the RC do the trick. At least he's wanting to eat, which has got to be a good sign   Wonder what he ate to set it all off?! big cuddles to Charlie boy.

Decided in the end that the vet visit would be best to make sure nothing hanging around there.  Anyway he was pronounced 100% fit and in brilliant condition.  She said his diarrhoea might have something to  do with the fact that he nicked some raw pastry off the worktop yesterday.  Little so and so.  Much relieved mummy

Gald he's feeling better.  Tend to agree with Gill though - you'll have to start feeding him

Had a similar thing with Smokie who I am fostering.  He and Fluff are being fed what they was in their previous home so tummy are ok but he barged out of his room while my lot were getting fed and pushed Skye out of the way of her Bozita!  Needless to say not very nice on Tuesday evening and yesterday morning for him or me but he's fine now!

Try explaining to a big black bear persian that the tasty food that the little white persian is eating isn't tastier than his!

They can be monsters sometimes and the worry they cause us.  He is fine today still on RC and probiotic but did his usual rampage round the kitchen, knocking stuff off the worktops and moving the toaster to pinch any crumbs.  He is such a poor neglected cat!!!!

Oh dear poor Charlie! Jerry has quite a sensitive tum  , along with a voracious appetite and when he had the runs the vet gave me some pro-biotic capsules  - he described them as the cat version of Yakult and they always sort him out.

oh poor Charlie and poor you. At least the vet has seen him, so she presumably can help you with him over the phone? Did you try that paste stuff, Diarsanyl at all? Vet gave me some when mine's tums were running a bit. I hope you're not up all night with him, try not to worry (I know that's impossible of course) xxx

Poor Charlie.  Maybe try a probioitic if the vet doesn't think there is an obvious medical cause.

The vet gave me a probiotic which I have been adding to his RC sensitive.  He is still wanting food and just had a play with his Da Bird but he had more diarrhoea about three quarters of an hour ago and then one more lot which was mucousy.  I will ring the vet in the morning.  He is having fluids.

I'd ask about the Diarsanyl as I've used it with success. It's a 3 day thing, a sort of glue paste muck you put in their mouths. Only would be suitable if the vet wants to stop the diarrhoea - if they think he needs to purge himself of something rotten, it may not be.
Has Charlie had probiotic before? I checked my notes and Swampy got tum troubles (soreness, not diarrhoea) from taking it once. May be worth asking if it's at all possible that the probiotic may have loosened him up again.
Here's hoping for no more runs and a settled tum today. Have you maybe tried i/d as well?  xxx

No he never had a probiotic before.  I am going to ring the vet this morning as having seen him only Wed they may just give me something.  He is so fine in himself, charging round with a little ball this morning and eaten all his RC.  He has had no further diarrhoea since before bed last night.  I don't really want to stress him with another visit so will phone now

Have just spoken to Irene our lovely vet.  She says she is not too concerned.  She is leaving me the paste (her suggestion) to pick up later today.  She said if there is any blood in his diarrhoea she is leaving a note that I can just pick up antibiotics (ie Charlie does not need seeing) but that if he still has diarrhoea by Tuesday she would like to see him then.  She said to give him nothing at all except for his RC sensitive and just keep an eye on him.  How these little furry babes worry us!

such a help isn't it to have a lovely vet who understands how scared we get. Hope the paste works - one word of warning, don't squeeze the tube too hard or I've had the base bit explode on me, covering my hands in goo. They usually don't mind the taste too much. Glad Charlie's bouncy and enjoying his RC nosh at any rate. Big cuddles

sorry to be graphic, but when you said 'mucus' before I thought uh-oh he's maybe constipated too - at the same time, if that makes sense, as they pass mucus when they are blocking up. I've found lactulose better than katalax for sorting it all out, but hope the katalax works (and not overworks) too. If he's on the paste muck, that could be why he's blocked. Poor Charlie xxx  (his poor Mum too)

sounds like he's gone from thing to the other, which often happens I'd imagine it will settle down though.  Mucus usually comes after inflammation so probably related to the diarrhoea he had.  Hope he's back to normal soon x
