I just found some frontline spot ons - the date on them is January 2006 ! - do you think they'll still work? they're still all sealed and everything.
-
I think I would be dubious using them if they are out of date tbh. I would worry that they would be more concentrated or something, I'm not sure :shy:
-
Darn it! - Got 3 pippettes and new girl Baby needs treating I reckon. ;)
-
The other thing you could do is ring up the firm and tell them you've just frontlined your cat and discovered it's 2 years out of date and would it do her any harm and see what they say ;)
-
Aha, good thinking :sneaky:
-
I read somewhere that it becomes Toxic if out of date and can be fatal for the animal if used

Found this on the "Frontline site"
I purchase a large pack of FRONTLINE® SPOT ON how long can I use it for before it expires?
Frontline Kills Fleas: flea, mite and tick control for cats ...
Each pipette of FRONTLINE® SPOT ON is stamped with it’s own expiry date. Out of date product should not be used and should be disposed of following the instructions on the package insert.

American and (I think) French frontline is sold without an expiration date (incl on ebay), just storage instructions to keep fresh. UK frontline has one and a use by warning. I'd give Merial a ring on monday and ask them if it's safe or if it's exactly the same stuff as sold in those 2 countries at least (?). As it's used as the DEFRA passport approved "tick and parasite" treatment before coming back into the UK, it may be the same and the difference may be regulations; then again, I thought the regs were EU wide. I'd be careful, but then I'm a neurotic!

I am 99.9% that i have read that out of date frontline can kill.
I am pretty sure i read a story about it somewhere
-
It turns toxic and poisons the cat/dog
-
Won't be using it then!
I've got to take Baby for vaccinations tomorrow, so will ask my vet about it then - but I think I know what her answer will be LOL! ;)
-
I think for the sake of a few quid it's not worth the risk. My friend gave me some flea stuff a while ago and that was out of date, she said it was ok but I just binned it tbh.
-
expired in 2006 is pretty long ago as well. Thinking about it, there must be a reason why the US one has no expiry date and we do as they are just as health and safety conscious and as for litigation!....I agree with you, I'd not use it either.

Usually out of date drugs just lose their potency and 2006 is very old. However, I never use out of date stuff, if in doubt, chuck it out.
