I feel sorry for her cats then!

they are fed human food (way too high in salt and fat for a cat) and yes, people fed their animals scraps before the 1900s, cats also lived an average 6-8 years before either dying from injuries/sickness or being trapped and turned into a pair of gloves (which happened up til 1940 in UK)

also th whole condeming people for having an indoor cat... not everyone can afford to move to the country to have a safe environment! or have £6,000 chairs to happily be scratched up

Ahhhh....well I see that the Daily Mail haven't changed thier idea of 'quality reporting'  :naughty:

That woman is a hypocritical, s**t Stirring.....bad cat mum!  :evillaugh:

I don't read the DM as I always find it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.... >:(

I obviously read the article different to all of you and thought it was rather good, quite tongue in cheek most of the time and funny. Have to say I agreed with quite a lot that was said.

Maybe I am a bad cat mweomy too then :(

I assumed that was a joke - I think she is trying to be edgy!

lol oops...

I think I really missed the idea of the article. I suppose it depends on your sense of humour etc.

maybe my sense of humour is wrong - I just couldn't believe anyone would talk about familiar smell - my house doesn't smell and I know yours doesn't Cheese because you just got your money back!

Ok i'll take back to the bad cat meowmy statement (though that was tongue in cheek)

NO ONE on this site is a bad cat meowmy!

I have a very very dim view of the Daily Mails reporting style. I once had a friend who was a pre-op transexual and member of the Lib Dem party. The Daily Mail covered thier Bournemouth conference several years ago at which this lady asked a very relevant question. When the article came out there was no mention of the question, just the fact that they had a pre-op member and what a disgusting thing this was- drive her out of the country etc.

Their Reporters are also found grubbing around Stonehenge trying to find pagan-damming material for thier write-ups.

And as for thier policy on immigrants...well, less said about that the better  >:(

Tongue in cheek is fine, but theres something about the article that makes it cross the line IMO. Perhaps it's her irreverence and disregard for other peoples opinions and ways of life. I despise people like that. yes shes a cat mum, doesn't mean her way of raising her brood is the only way to do it!

I wouldn't say there is a 'cat' smell either, If I smell our cats fur (as us crazy cat women do!)  ;D they smell like that teddy bear sort of smell, if you know what I mean. Or somehow, Cheese and Doc sometimes smell like talc! Not sure how they manage that but I always ask my little man if he has a date

I wonder if she even went!

It is funny - in parts, but *not* when it's taking the mick out of a friend.

I just hope Margaret doesn't see it. >:(

Just a light piece about cats in general and the show in particular, imho.

Does anyone read the Polly Filler columns in Private Eye?  :evillaugh:

I agree that I think it's supposed to be tongue in cheek.  Tbh, I prefer my humour a bit more cutting  :naughty:

I dont' think she is really criticising as trying to be humorous.  Just not terribly original.  I've read numerous articles like that in the past (the guardian article the weekend before was similar).  Would be nice to read something a bit more original one day.

These kind of articles do tend to focus on certain aspects and conveniently ignore others.  She can joke about people spending 7 hours preparing their cat, but others just brush and trim claws.  But they are not as much fun to write about  ;D She doesn't specify what human food she feeds her cats  - if she's feeding a raw meat and bones diet that provides all nutrients, good on her but if not, then she is not providing a balanced diet.   My only reservation about the article is that her criticism of food manufacturers (with which I mostly agree) does not come with any explanation of what she considers a good diet.  Beyond the remit of the article I agree, but I'd hate for anyone to follow her lead and switch from feeding a processed (but complete) cat food to feeding human food after reading that.

Is it just me with my blinkers on, but while I would concede that the people who go to the supreme are predominantly female, I did see some men and children there too  ;D  I suppose it's also because the few breeders that I know are mostly people with children or couples, rather than the childless middle ages cat lady stereotype.

I love Private Eye, when Phil actually lets me read it - he has to read every little tiny article on every page before I get a flick through  :evillaugh:

Susanne, I saw loaddsss of kids, younger people, middle aged people, older people... a bit of everything! I know there are more women than men but there are still a variety of people. Thats one of the comments that made me wonder if she actually went, playing on the typical stereotype of "cat person".

she also mentioned scared cats hiding under 'regulation white blankets'

The supreme lets you have any colour?

That article made me cross in places.

The only smell I've ever smelt at shows is that 'delightful' eau de stud smell you get when you walk back into the show hall having been out for fresh air . If her home smells like that then she really needs to neuter her cats!

I guess some cats would just have had their regulation show whites in their pen as the Supreme is the only GCCF show of the year when you could use show curtains and they aren't the cheapest things to buy and not everyone has the skills to make them (I certainly don't).
