Has anyone had their kitty's BP monitored and if so, is the procedure particularly stressful for the cat? As part of Korky's CRF management I would like his BP checked and the vet agrees that this is a good idea. He isn't an especially nervy cat at the vets (in fact he gives the apperarance of being very laid back) but after our last visit he was a bit off for a couple of days and as he is clinically well at the moment I don't want to push him over the edge on the basis of a hunch.

Don't worry its not stressful in the least,we had an old boy who used to go in regularly sometimes vet would do it during consultation and if it was overly high he would admit for the day to make sure puss was relaxed and check 2 or 3 times during the day.

As far as I know Frantas was taken when he was stayin at the vets overnight for his op.

Thanks - thats very reassuring. I'll get him booked in. I think they like to keep them for a morning to make a few measurements

Gingers was done once - he should have stayed all afternoon, but he was so relaxed about it, they just did them 15 mins apart - they shaved a bit of fur off his leg, then put a little cuff round, like we have. I don't thnk he liked the pressure very much, but I hate mine being taken for the same reason.

Yes a couple of mine havent liked the pressure from the cuff thing, and they have to put some stuff on the paw pad, which my Sammy definitely didnt like, but then he doesnt like his paws being touched anyhow.

Mogs has her blood pressure checked every 6 months now. It used to be 3 but as its settled its extended. Shes fine with it. She just sits there and sticks her leg out for the vet. In fact last time the vet was having problems with batteries and ear phones and stuff and Mogs sat for about 10 minutes. She jumps when the cuff is tightened and isnt too keen on the gel on her foot but then she doesnt like her fett touched. She certainly doesnt get stressed or grumpy about it and the vets are always impressed at how good she is.

Afraid Swampy and bp monitoring has never been easy as he gets too stressed, but if that happens, the vet can allow for "white coat syndrome" as they are used to it. They usually take quite a few readings if they can. It's also possible, although I think a little less accurate, to have it taken from the tail, which seems to be less stressful than having a paw wrapped up. But don't worry, if Swampy's bp could be taken, any cat's bp can be taken ;)

My Jeannie had hers done every 2 or 3 months for about 20 months.
I had a 2 hour appointment and they would admit her, keep her in to allow her to rest and settle then take then 'do it'. She was absolutly fine.
