Over the last couple of days we have been in phone contact with a lovely lady regarding 2 cats, Monday & Penny. Their elderly owner had recently died and after having lay on the bed with the body for several days before she was found have been locked in a family battle to save them from being PTS for the convenience of some!
Neither has eaten properly and both have lost weight since the death of their owner but thankfully we had space for this gorgeous little duo so that they now have somewhere safe to rest their head.
Both are extremely traumatised and took nearly 3 hours to come out of their carriers and so far Monday still continues to run back into his as soon as you approach the room. We felt it best not to place this duo in pens as they have been through so much already and are concerned at them becoming depressed after their recent ordeal so we have placed them in 'foster' with my mum who is taking good care of them.
it is just so sad to know what they have been through and to think that had a single person not been so determined these poor little mites would be dead. >:(
-
Thanks to you and your mum for giving this pair a foster home.
Dare I ask why it took so long for their owner to be discovered?
-
I didn't ask... but most likely not many family visitors or phone calls made to the old woman, that'd be the usual reason.
There was plenty of food out for the cats in the house but they just hadn't eaten any of it choosing instead to stay with the body, well that is what we have been told anyway. bless them
-
:'( what a sad story, but so nice that you and your mum are helping those two kitties out
-
Aww, fingers crossed for these two, such a sad story
-
That is so sad and they must have loved her so much :(
I am so pleased that you have been able to save them
Sadly this is a story that I am sure is heard more and more because people just do not stay in contact with older people.
-
very true Gill, at least she had her cats which were apparently her reason for living bless her.
The 2 little one's are still very stressed out but are coming round. Penny is fussing over Monday like a little mother hen mum says and constantly back and forward. Mum has also noticed that Penny won't eat unless Monday does and is very protective of him.
Hopefully with some time and TLC they will come round soon. Will get pics soon as I get a chance to pop over to mums for a visit.
-
just a wee update on this wonderful little duo. Monday is starting to come round and be a little more confident and Penny not quite as fussy over him but both still a bit jumpy.
Both have started to eat a little, which is better than nothing and mum was so pleased this afternoon. She went for a lay down for a bit and monday and penny had a bite to eat and then monday jumped onto the bed over to mum and licked her face.... yes some may go eeewww but bearing in mind the scenario... I went awwwww. :Luv2:
both have been curling up at the foot of the bed at night and we hope todays improvements will continue. :wish:
-
aww, that's lovely to hear :) I think it so sweet she licked your mum she was thanking her :Luv2: hope they continue to improve xx
-
I am glad they are feeling more settled.
-
A wee update on this little duo for you all and of course the all important piccies!! ;D
I popped out to visit this duo yesterday and lets just say I'm not 100% convinced they are 10 years old, in fact I'd go as far to say that they are much older than that at approx 15 especially Penny! Penny is still very thin but has begun to put on some weight which is good and is not quite as clingy to Monday however they are exceptionally close and normally within 3 feet of each other at all times, bless them.
I was a little concerned by a scab on monday's nose which has been cleaned up and looks much better. For now I am hoping it was just dry food he hadn't cleaned off but otherwise he is doing fine and loving having the company of mum, although perhaps not so much of the dogs!
They have sweetest of natures, both of them and despite me pulling them about yesterday they were full of cuddles and purrs. Such little sweetie pies. :Luv2: :Luv2:
Both are booked in for their blood tests on Wednesday so fingers are crossed that everything comes back OK. I think we will be exceptionally lucky to find homes for this duo, but should that happen they will stay with mum permanently whilst we try to find a long term foster for them.
The most important thing is they are safe for now so...... piccie time! :Luv2:
This is Monday.....

This is Penny.....

and this.... well this is how you'll find that at all times... together!

-
They certainly don't seem to be carrying their age well if they are only 10 - My sister's cat looked better than that aged 23 ...
-
Love Pennys markings and glad they're settling in.
-
exactly... hence why I think we were told 10 after other rescue's refused them on age..... but deffo much older.
-
Poor babies, hope you can sort something for them ... They don't deserve to spend their last days in a pen ... :Luv:
-
Poor babies, hope you can sort something for them ... They don't deserve to spend their last days in a pen ... :Luv:
they certainly won't that... mum is prepared to keep them with her for as long as it takes so at least they will be in a home environment BC.
-
:Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:Ahhh bless them .. poor little darlings. Thank heavens they have have each other, you and your mum. It sounds like they have already made their choice and decided your Mum is going to be their new protector.

Great news, so happy for them. Poor babies, they really are a lovely pair of oldies aren't they ... :Luv:
-
Good luck with these two in finding a home, Monday reminds me of Nigel RIP is your moms house now covered in white cat hairs  Pennys markings are very unusual I love her little ginger face :Luv:
-
Poor little mites bless them for staying by there mum, I would have thought the family would at leased try and find them a loving home as that would have been the poor old Lady's last wished,I had a smiler case a few years back where a Lady died and the cat was locked in with her for three weeks i called her Thursday she stayed in my office in a cupboard for Monthes and was so depressed then Rona a kind lady who went on Cat chat Took her in and gave her a wonderfull home it took near on a year before Rona got her trust and still has Thursday to this Day, bless your mum for taking them in,I Really hope the poor Babes find a forever loving home soon.
-
Poor old girls - they are lovely :Luv2:
I bet the family will be happy to take the old lady's money though >:(
-
What a lovely duo - glad to hear they are settling in a bit more too!
-
They are lovely, but I can understand your concern on Monday's nose - they could be 10 though, and their condition could be a bit worse due to their traumatic experience - Pebbles looked worse at 11 than Ginger did at 15.
-

Fair point - Edgar looks good for 12 where as Oscar, well if you told me he was 18 I wouldn't call you a liar lol!!
-
at the end of the day I don't think we ever 'know' for sure... but I definately think Penny is much older even by the condition of her coat and especially her teeth.
We will just have to wait and see what their blood test results bring next week and just hope in the meantime its nothing to be worried about! :wish:
-
awww :Luv:, they are just lovely and Penny is very like my Byron. Age is very hard to tell because like Desley says some cats we've had have looked older than older cats we have had.
I am glad they are settling down more too.
-
Fingers crossed for their bloods.
-
What lovely cats and they look quite sad :(
Wonderful ythat they are going to be fostered and are safe
-
well todays the day... I leave in 45 mins to collect this duo and take them to have their bloods taken! fingers crossed that all goes well and I'm unjustly concerned! :scared:
-
Good luck
-
best of luck x
-
well folks we have a mixture of good and bad news for Monday & Penny. :scared:
In short the vet agrees with me that they are waaaaayyyyyyy older than 10 yrs old and would put penny most definately in her late teens and Monday not far behind, if at all.
On an up note... their tests have shown negative for FeLV & FIV which is a relief. ;D
Both Monday & Penny however have quite severe heart murmers (sp?) :(
Their general blood works have shown varying levels but all within the accepted range and nothing too dramatic to worry about.
Penny has been confirmed as suffering from Hyperthryroidism, :( which I suspected would be the case to be honest and the vet feels that Monday is a potential Hyperthyroidism case waiting to happen so have to monitor him closely for further signs.
We are just waiting on Penny's T function test results to be returned and then we can work out how best to manage her condition / medication.
so all in all not brilliant news but not as bad as it could have been! Both are now safely back with mum resting and getting over their ordeal with nasty Auntie Sarah!!!
I have a feeling however that mum will be spoiling them the next few days... she's got rather attached to this duo as they have such a sweet little nature and not a bad bone in their wee bodies. :Luv2:
I think for this duo it will be a long term foster place for them either with mum if she can manage them or trying to find someone who is willing to take them on with our support.
-
Oh well - it could have been worse and I guess you have had confirmed what you suspected. A shame about their heart murmur - Oscar has one too although it doesn't require medication yet! Hopefully they won't require too much - they look lovely girls and I am sure someone will foster them long term if your Mum can't. I am sure their owner is looking down very happy that they are being so well looked after!
:Luv2:
-
Aww, at least it is hyper-t which is controllable, rather than something worse. Fingers crossed your mum will foster them long term, and they can have a decent amount of time.
-
Glad the cats have been checked and getting treated and hopefully settled in a long-term home soon :)
-
yes hopefully we will hear today or tomorrow as to the T count and can go from there.
Both are over their day out with bad Auntie Sarah and settled back into mums last night. She's just off the phone saying she had a right night with them as she took a coughing fit in the night and all Penny did all night was walk up and down her and lick her face! lol.... to which Monday thought this must be the done thing and he joined in too!
Bless them they are just soooo affectionate and loving little cats. :Luv2:
-
Just a wee update on this little duo!
Both are doing OK. Penny started her HyperT meds yesterday so we hope that this will start to make a difference as she is so painfully thin but her spirits are good. Monday is doing OK too and is just trundling on but it looks like they will be going nowhere. Mum has agreed to keep them on just now as long term fosters but realistically I genuinely don't think that we would find anywhere else for them. I swear every time I go to look at them they seem to look older... maybe its just me!?!?
You can't really help but feel sorry for this loving little duo but they are safe and sound and that's what matters. Our current plan will probably be to put them forward to sponsorship at the rescue as so far their veterinary bill is sitting at £200. We are running a number of boot sales over the winter months which brings in a little... but with no adoptions until January I hope that we can pull something in for their care costs by sponsorship.
The main thing is though that they are safe and stable... and they are :Luv2:
-
Am glad that they are safe and sound and let's hope Penny does well on her meds. It sounds as if they are really attached to your Mum already :Luv2:
-
My mum has a cat exactly like Monday and she is 15, they look the same body type and seem to have the same frailty.
At least these 2 little darlings will be taken good care of for the rest of their time. :)
-
popped out to mums yesterday to check on this little pair :)
After only just short of a week on her new tablets we are starting to see a difference in Penny. she is that bit livelier and is eating pretty well and her coat and general condition seem slightly better. We even think she has managed to put on a 'little' weight which is great news too. :)
Monday is his usual nosey self and is eating much better too which is great news. Hopefully their food will turn up today and we can get them started on that over the weekend to help give them another boost too.
-
:Luv: I love hearing about these 2 and so pleased things are turning round for them :)
-
So glad to hear they are doing much better :wow:
-
Just back from having to dive back down to mums again tonight. Penny has taken a case of very bad diahorrea (sp?) this afternoon and has caught her short a few times. :scared:
Her new meds do say that they can cause this as a side effect but with her being so thin it is a tad concerning at the moment. After speaking with the vet we've given her something to help with the diahorrea and putting her on a diet of boiled chicken and rice if she will eat it a) to help her tum and b) to help build her up as she is so painfully thin.
Fingers crossed that this will settle down soon :wish:
-
Another wee update on this duo....
happy to say that Penny's diahorrea has settled down and her tum is back to normal. ;D Both Penny & Monday are now eating well and it is great to see them start to put a little weight on. :) Especially with Penny although you don't notice as much how thin Monday is as he has such a thick heavy coat.
Both of them are starting to show a little more energy and interest in life again which is great and Monday is proving to be a VERY cheeky little character who loves to bury himself under the blanket on the bed to sleep not even venturing out when you call on him! lol :evillaugh:
Penny is much more full of energy and life and is venturing a little further and also much more animated to talk to. (well you know what I mean don't you! lol) she has taken to asking to get under the duvet in the middle of the night with mum... who amazingly lets her! not something she tends to do although I think Penny & Monday have worked their magic and definately won mum round.
so good news is the meds appear to be working!!
Penny has a follow up visit to the vet on Monday to check her over and see how she is progressing on the medication and hopefully to decide whether or not she is going to be a candidate for surgery. Something we do have mixed feelings over but if it helps her to feel better and also allows us to do something with her exceptionally bad teeth it may well prove worth it to make her feel better in the long run. However this will all depend on the vets thoughts on Monday. so fingers crossed its more good news :wish:
-
:Luv2: great news about them both they sound to be really happy with your mum. If Penny's teeth are bad I would definitely get them seen to, Byron had all but 2 removed at 22 and she was so much better for it (although the 2 she has still in are now causing probs unfortunately) she had tummy problems with her teeth and that went.
-
Great news about these two! I hope they can operate on Penny's teeth if they are causing her discomfort. Oscar had a bad tooth but they decided he couldn't go under GA because of his heart murmur - although it was just the one tooth and so far he seems still fine.
Sounds like your mum is really smitten too.... :Luv2:
-
hi folks... wee update on this duo. :Luv2:
Both are eating better and put on a little weight. Penny who is the one we are most concerned about has put on a decent amount of weight and her coat is looking much better and she is definately more full of life than she was and not laying about as listless as she was thankfully. ;D
She had her check up appt with the vet this morning who is very pleased with her progress and is going to keep her on meds for another fortnight taking us into the New Year with a view to operating on her to remove the thyroid gland at the beginning of Jan and see to her teeth at the same time. Not something mum is looking forward to, as Penny improves and becomes stronger so does her will NOT to take the tablets!!! ;D It is a necessary step to take to give Penny the best quality of life however at an estimated cost of a further £150 - £200 it does sting the rescue's funds slightly which are low at the current time with nothing going out for homing. But she needs it to get some better quality of life so she will get it done and we'll just have to work extra hard at boot sales, etc to raise the extra cash. ;)
I would like to say a thank you to those members who have already put forward a donation to our appeal for Monday & Penny from our website. Your help is very much appreciated and from the duo I pass on a big :thanks:
-
Aww, glad they are both doing well.
-
:yayyy:
Am so glad to hear that these two are doing so well. Hyperthyroid must make them feel so miserable, it's amazing the difference that even a few weeks on the tablets can make.
-
I just want to cuddle them both!
Hope they enjoy their Christmas with your Mum.
Jas
X
-
Likwise I hoope they enjoy getting spoiled at Christmas and great to hear they are doing so well :wow:
-
just a quick note to let everyone know that Penny's surgery is scheduled for this coming Tuesday (6th Jan).
We are still running our appeal to raise the funds for their veterinary bill from our website and have all fingers and toes crossed that Penny's surgery goes OK with no complications :wish:
please send your positive vibes Penny's way and I'll update early in the week with how the surgery went. :scared:
-
;D Glad they are getting better all the time and fingers crossed for the op xx
-
Sending lots of vibes that Penny is okay on Tuesday
-
Fingers crossed
-
Good luck for her op and fingers crossed she doesnt get any ca issues
-
Just back from dropping off Penny at the vets this morning... not a very happy chappy but fingers crossed all goes well and we can have her back home at mums soon as possible.
We decided to bring her up to ours last night so she was a little glum this morning. We decided to bring Monday with her, for 2 reasons really. 1 to keep her company and secondly to have his nose looked at which is STILL not healing. :Dont know:
Vet checked over his nose this morning and we're going to try a course of steroids to see if this will help. Failing that it is suspected that it may be a tumour / skin cancer as it is on his white part of the face. :scared:
I just really feel for this duo :( we seem to get past one hurdle and then it seems that something else crops up for the poor wee souls. :(
Please keep your fingers and paws crossed for this pair and I'll update more later today when I know how Penny is doing.
-
Positive vibes coming my way for Penny
Hope all goes well for her  and you of course
-
Hope the little lady gets on ok today
-
Sending lots of love to them both
-
hope it all goes well for these 2 and sending lots of positive vibes and hugs for you
-
hi guys, sorry I didn't update last night. I spent a lot of time with Penny & Monday last night making sure we kept Penny's spirits up as she was rather low when I got her back yesterday afternoon. Poor Monday spent the whole day she was away sitting in the corner of the pen hanging his wee head bless him so he was thrilled when she returned. :Luv2:
The operation was a success and she came through the anaethestic yesterday without too much trouble so that was a relief. She is expectedly very sore and took her time in finding a semi comfortable position to rest in bless her. :Luv2: She has eaten a little, taken in some milk and got some rest which is good news.
I am currently just getting her ready to take back to the vet this morning for a post op checkup at 10am and to make sure she is doing OK and her calcium levels are fine.
It is a relief to know that she is getting over the op OK (fingers crossed this continues) and we hope, for Penny, this is the last big hurdle this wee angel will have to endure. Whilst we also hope with fingers and paws crossed that Monday's nose is NOT something sinister after all. :scared:
-
Im so glad to hear that Penny is okay and she is back, fingers crossed she continues to recover, also sending vibes for Monday that his condition is not sinister
-
quick update to say that Penny seems to be recovering well from her operation.
She is eating well and not as sore which is great. Mum actually said this morning she must be feeling better as its the first time since she's been back that she actually ventured under the duvet to snuggle into mum last night :Luv2:
fingers crossed this continues for her and she keeps improving.
Monday however has had a very upset tummy all of last night. Could be a reaction to the steroids so will be keeping an eye on him to ensure it doesn't get any worse.
Both of them say a huge thank you to everyone who has been kind enough to send them healing vibes and cyber cuddles
-
Hope Mondays tummy settles down soon, sending some healing vibes for him and cuddles fo9r both
-
How are Penny & Monday doing?
-
sorry guys, totally slipped my mind to update this thread as we've been going through a monitoring lull so to speak with not much to report! sorry!
Penny is doing brilliantly and is much happier and settled and eating welll which is brilliant. Monday on the other hand isn't doing quite so well. He is still suffering from runny tummy and now that the steroids have come to an end we have been monitoring his nose closely. It was doing great while on the steroids but since them ending a couple of days ago it is flaring back up again.
We've to give it another few days and get him in for a check up next week with the vet and take things from there but I have a horrible feeling that things aren't going to be straight forward! :(
-
Only just caught up with this, I do hope that Monday improves poor boy, I will keep everything crossed for him xx
-
Poor Monday :Luv: hes not having much luck, fingers crossed it can be sorted out quickly
-
Am so glad that Penny is doing well. Here's hoping that Monday's tum and nose get better soon.
-
hi guys, Monday's nose is getting a lot worse since the steriods have started to wear off. Will get him in to be checked over on Monday but fear the worst.
Penny on the other hand is doing brilliantly! :)
-
awww, tons of luck and well wishes for that dear kitty
-
Poor Monday :Luv: i do hope this can be sorted and thats its nothing sinister, after all they have been through its so unfair that he now has to go through this trauma with his nose
-
Glad that Penny is doing well, hope things improve for Monday too. Sending lots of positive vibes
-
Hi Guys,
Thought you might all like to see how this duo are doing :Luv2: Popped down to see them again last night and took some piccies for y'all :)
They are looking much better and feeling much better if their cheeky characters are anything to go by. Penny's scar is healing up nicely but the Jury is still out on Mondays nose as you will see form some of the piccies it is flaring up as bad as ever. Will be checking in with the vet tonight (hopefully) if I can track her down and see what she suggests we do from here. Will update as soon as I know but in the meantime enjoy the piccies! :)

awww, I do love those two :Luv: :Luv: it is such a shame about Monday's nose would it not be safe for the vet to remove the affected area?
-
awww, I do love those two :Luv: :Luv: it is such a shame about Monday's nose would it not be safe for the vet to remove the affected area?
I knew a cat who had that op, its very difficult to heal, he was an oldie also and he never recovered from it :(
-
Awwwwwwwww they look so beautiful,Penny looks like a contented old lady sitting there :Luv: and poor old Monday i do hope they can sort his nose out quickly :Luv2:
-
Awwwww I hadnt realised just how much Monday looks like Nigel RIP (my avatar) :Luv2: Hope the vet can do something for him, glad Penny is improving also.
-
I really don't know what can be done at the moment. I did notice in the pics that it looks as if the area affected is above his nose, but its not its actually all over the bottom of his nose and upwards. Tried to get hold of the vet dealing with this case today but no job so will try again tomorrow.
They are both looking much better in themselves especially Penny who is very sooky and loves her attention and cuddling into bed with mum of a night however Monday has a rather annoying habit of having to clean and lick her hair completely before he'll settle for the night! bless him.
As soon as I know more I will post the details :)
-
Wow, they both look so much better :Luv2:. Penny's coat looks shiny!
It's a pain about Monday's nose, but it looks as if he's certainly happy enough for now.
-
His nose looks worse than PEbbles' did, and hers was precancerous scabs. I did do some research on the op, and it isn't recommended in cats as it can cause issues with sinuses and the like. Pebbles had the monthly steroid jab which calmed hers down completely, she had either 2 or 3, and it stayed away for months - sadly she then became ill with something else. It might be worth looking into
-
thanks Desley I'll ask about that as the steroid jab he had already did work well in slowing down the rate the scabs re-appeared.
-
lots of luck for Monday xx
-
hi guys, just to let you know that Monday is booked in for a biopsy on Tuesday morning!
keeping optimistic but certainly fear the worst and it being pre cancerous scabs! :wish:
-
:wish: will be thinking of that dear kitty and every best wish going his way xx
-
I will be thinking of Monday and sending positive vibes his way :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:- he deserves some luck in his life now that he has got you and your Mum looking after him and showing him TLC xxx
-
Fingers crossed for him on Tuesday and sending lots of positive vibes, after all hes been through surely fate couldnt be that unkind
-
will be keeping everything crossed!
-
Fingers crossed - Pebbles had pre-cancerous scabs for quite a while before they got worse, we never put her through a biopsy though. Steroids kept it at bay for months, but then her stomach was the problem. Although hers wasn't quite as bad as Monday's
-
Positive vibes coming this way too
-
Finger crossed for Monday.
-
sorry for delay in replying but we have been away for a couple of days.
Monday goes in for his biopsy tomorrow so will be on starvation tonight which he won't enjoy. But he is happy go lucky as always but even in the 2.5 days we've been away we've seen a massive difference in the scabs on his wee nose in terms of being much worse.
all fingers and paws are crossed here for tomorrow and the impending results!!! :wish:
-
Good luck for tomorrow, everything crossed :wish: :wish:
-
All fingers and paws crossed here for Monday and hope that he comes through it ok and can have his food supply back!
-
Fingers crossed for Monday tomorrow and sending lots of positive vibes for the little man :Luv: :Luv:
-
hope all turns out well lots of hugs Ron and all the little cats at lostcatsbrighton
-
Fingers crossed
-
Fingers crossed and a mega load of positive vibes that Monday comes through this today
-
thanks guys, he's on his way shortly! :wish:
-
Is there any news on Monday yet :scared:
-
hi guys,
Monday got back from the vets around 1.30 today so we could get him back to Penny and some peace and quiet to rest.
He has been a quiet wee soul all afternoon but doing well all things considered. ;) :Luv2:
They have de-scabbed his nose for now and taken the biopsy leaving the wee man with 2 wee stitches in his nose, although you would hardly know.
The vet dealing with the biopsy today is the same vet that saw him previously and has commented that even she noticed that the affected area is spreading. :(
We hope to have the results of the biopsy back by the end of the week :scared: :wish:
-
Poor little man :Luv: i do so hope this is nothing sisnister or if it is that it can be sorted out,he deserves to have a little bit of love and comfort in his life ,i am sending a megga megga load of vibes for him and fingers crossed :
-
Poor boy, loads of luck going his way from us and please give him a cuddle from me xx
-
I hope its treatable so he can spend his twilight years with your Mum
If not then he is in the best place for however long
Hugs from all here :thanks:
-
Hi guys,
Monday is doing well and taking everything in his stride as he always does! :Luv2: still no word on the results yet though.... :scared:
In the meantime thought you may like some more piccies. Mum has been at our place cat sitting while we were away at the weekend so I took the opportunity to get extra piccies this morning before they all head back to mums.
Enjoy! :Luv2:

-
Fingers crossed for the biopsy results.
-

-
Lots of positive vibes for both moggies.
x
-
Fingers crossed for tomorrow and the results, hope its good news for him :Luv:
-
Everything crossed as always for lovely boy xxxx
-
sorry guys its bad news :'( :'(
vet just called and its been confirmed that Mondays skin condition is cancer. For the time being it has not penetrated to the deep underlying tissue but it will over time. How long, we don't know :scared: :(
Surgery is not an option because of the affected area so a no go and the steroids give him such terrible diahorrea and sore stomach he is completely miserable. So, for the time being it is a case of wait and see how Monday does and manages. The option of PTS is not an option on the table for us while he has quality of life and isn't suffering.
We will keep a close eye on him and keep him under vet supervision and make him as comfortable as we can. Which for the time being he is one very happy little soul :Luv2: bless him.
thank you from Monday and Penny for all the good wishes and hugs and please continue to keep the little ones in your thoughts :Luv2:
-
Oh No poor Monday :( i think we all new the outlook was,nt promising but its still heartbreaking just as he was getting a taste of the good life, why is life so cruel to the defencless >:( I know he will have the very best while in your care and i will be thinking of him and Penny and sending lots of vibes for them both and hugs for you too
-
 very sad news :'( like Bonnielass says I think we all had an idea but just hoped we were wrong. Regarding the steroids can he not have an injection? my Schui tolerates that really well, I just wish there was help for him. At least he seems happy enough for now please give Monday a massive hug from me - and his friend Penny too xx
-
What sad news - keeping both these special little ones in my thoughts and sending love, huggles and positive vibes. xxx
-
Sad news but at least now you know and can face the world Monday's way and help him have a lovely life in his remaining time
We lost Miss Gracie to a Tumour in her jaw and vet gave her 6 weeks in true Clan Cat style with the aid of steroids and antibiotics she lasted another 9 months and advised us accordingly when she was ready to go
However long Monday has he is in great hands with you and your family and will be spoilt by his slaves accordingly
-
thats our sentiments too Liz. He's such a happy contented wee soul so for as long as he is happy and no suffering then we'll let him enjoy what time he has left :Luv2:
I popped out to see him yesterday and he is looking good and a happy wee soul... even fighting Penny off so he coiuld get hugs and cuddles first!!! lol will obviously keep you all posted on his progress and in the meantime I will pass on all your thoughts and hugs which he appreciates..... every single one!
-
Sad to hear Monday's news, wishing him lots more quality time being loved, cuddled and served only the finest cuisine!
Jas

-
I am sorry to hear the biopsy confirmed your suspicions, but I would agree with Jane about trying a different steroid, it could be that it works, and Pebbles only had to have one injection a month. At least these two are safe, and will be spoiled for however long they have.
-
We got steroid injections from the vet for Gracie and used them fortnightly - she was a feral old gal and the vets agreed this lessoned the stress of vets visits hope you can do this for Monday
Our vets always put the cat first and we let them guide us but in the end as the vets agreed we know our cats and dogs and take our lead from them
I'm sure Monday will have the best of care and will advise acordingly when he is ready to go - all ours have to date except Tiger who went at the vet with no warning but thats how he turned up and moved in so really a true feral to the end!
-
I'm very sure he will. I will be speaking to the vet again about seeing if there are any other steroids we can use as those so far including injections have left him in terrible pain in his abdomen as well as diahorrea. Suppose sometimes its hard to know what to do for the best but we can only try.
Bless him, he's none the wiser and still as cheeky as ever. However long he has left at least we know that it will be as happy and fun filled for this little chap as it can be :Luv2:
-
Very best of luck for the lovely boy xx
-
It's such a shame.
At least you know what you're dealing with now and it can be treated accordingly.
I know when Edward was sick he lasted quite a few weeks longer than the vet thought he would. He was diagnosed in Decmber, and she didn't think he'd make it through Christmas, but he lasted well into January (his was a very aggressive cancer, and he didn't have steroids, because it would have only prolonged his life a short while).
So sad, but spoil him a litle extra.
-
have spoken to the vets about Monday and we are going to try him on some Prednisolone and see if that helps any without the tummy probs. He started them this weekend so hopefully it will help halt his scabbing and make him more comfortable over the next wee whiley.
He is still doing great though and as chipper and cheeky as ever bless him. :Luv2: he says a big thank you for all the hugs and good wishes and sends lots of nose rubs and purrs to you all :Luv2:
-
Aww, fingers crossed the new meds help a lot.
-
glad they are trying an alternative and everything crossed for him xx
-
How are these 2 :Luv: :Luv: doing?
-
the pred seem to be helping in slowing down the formation of the scabs on his nose which is good although not stopping it completely but its better than nothing.
Both of them are doing really well and Monday is a happy, yet cheeky wee soul and I have to admit when you see him and Penny together you can't help but laugh. If you speak to Penny then Monday get jealous and has a wee 'nip' at her to say get out of the way and she does! walks all over her but she loves him to bits!
Now that they are also living with Cassie one of our long term cats the 3 of them have all formed a bond so we are hoping that when the time comes and Monday leaves us that Cassie will help fill the void for Penny although knowing how strong their bond is it really is a sad thought but we'll see what happens.
Regardless they are very happy and snuggle under the covers with mum of a night and she has become very fond of them both and we will keep them as comfortable as we can in their time with us until its their time to go to the bridge. :)
-
I am afraid I have missed this thread and so sad about Monday :(
The two of them look lovely and its nice that there is now a threesome so Penny will not be left alone.
Lots of good wishes for Monday

:) awwww pleased to hear they are doing well and the steroid is helping a bit, that is also good about a friend for Penny should the time come as I was wondering about that actually. Keep us updated on how they are I do think of them
-
a big  for your mum in taking these two to her heart
-
Sending healing vibes
-
awww thanks for the update its good to know how their doing. Have you got a picture of Cassie or better still one with them altogether, would love to see it if you have ;D
-
i am glad that they are slowing things down, and hope that there is a decent amount of time before any decisions have to be made. Cinnamon Trust swear by Rescue REmedy for cases when pairs have to lose a friend, and they start it before it actually happens, might be worth considering for Penny.
-
How are these dear kitties doing now?
-
Hi Jayney... sorry not updated for a while things here at the rescue are exceptionally manic at the moment at the rescue and we have just hit our 100th cat needing our help! :tired: which for a rescue our size is immense.
A lot has been happening at mum's place and she lost her old dog and our old boy Sandy the cat (long term sponsor / foster) in the same week just a fortnight ago so her place has seemed empty of late. :'(
Monday & Penny are doing very well. Penny is looking great and despite several scabby bits from all the nipping and scratching that Monday does to her in jealousy she is looking fabulous with a lovely glossy coat and just loves her cuddles and no sign of the Hyper-T raising its ugly head again yet. Monday continues to be the overbearing of the two and always likes to be at the front of the queue for cuddles and food!
The tablets do still help to 'slow' the formation of the scabbing on his face a little and help him to be a little more comfortable but it does irritate him. It is not unknown for mum to wake in the night cos he is using her elbow as a scratching post for his nose in the middle of the night!! Something she doesn't much enjoy! lol
All in all Monday appears to be doing well. The area affected is stretching upwards a tad now but as there isn't much we can do for the time being shy of amputating his nose we will just continue to make sure that he is comfortable and look for any signs of the cancer appearing elsewhere. He is a happy little chap who is full of mischief and a typical little ginger despite being in his twilight years.
Cassie has now become an equal member of the trio and they all get on well and even she isn't spared from Mondays ear nipping and biting when he is jealous or wants his own way! lol little :naughty: that he is. ;)
Next time I'm down at mums (probably next week) I'll try to remember to take the camera with me and get some update piccies for you! :)
-
Great to hear they are all (3) still doing well ;D glad that Penny's nose is being helped (Byron rubs her nose on me really hard like that for some strange reason :evillaugh:) and good that Monday's HT has stabilized. it sounds like they have really made themselves at home with your mum. Look forward to photos!
Sorry to hear about your mum's dog and Sandy the cat
RIP doggy and kitty xx
-
lol thanks Jayney... ... you did make me chuckle tho... its Penny who has Hyper T and Monday who has the cancer! lol ;) ;) ;)
-
and to think that you described them both as having 'the sweetest of natures' early on - I guess Monday was hiding his darker side from you until he got his paws well under the table :sneaky:
-
oh he does have the sweetest of natures... he's just a typical ginger! lol very cheeky and likes to get things his own way! ;)
-
I was thinking of these 2 the other day and meant to ask how they are doing. I am so glad to hear how well they are doing, a real credit to the love and TLC received from you an your Mum :Luv2:
-
Thanks for the update, funnily enough I was only thinking about them last night :) Glad to see they are doing ok and look forward to some pictures.
-
lol thanks Jayney... ... you did make me chuckle tho... its Penny who has Hyper T and Monday who has the cancer! lol ;) ;) ;)
ahh, it's where you mentioned the scabs which confoosed me :evillaugh: but it's from the nips I see! I was supposed to have checked that too ;)
-
:Luv: Great to hear about their progress - it's odd, I was thinking about them yesterday as well and was going to check the Madkitty website this evening to see if there was an update!
-
thanks guys! :) lol @ Jayney! ;) They seem to be a tough old duo to be honest and despite their age just keep plodding on. Monday is so mischievious that mum often says to me that he can be that bad now she would dread to imagine what he was like when he was younger! lol A cat who definately likes to get his own way!
Will deffo make a point of leaving the camera out for Monday (next time I'm at mum's) :)
-
Thanks go to Ginge for reminding me that I haven't updated this thread in a while.
The dynamic duo are still doing fine and are enjoying the warmer weather that is for sure... well on the odd occasion we actually get some!
Penny's weight has been a bit up and down of late and we did have her in for a check up but everything seems to be fine so they reckon it is just a case of her age getting the better of her. We are however continuing to monitor her weight.
Monday is also being monitored and recently checked over again by the vet as we felt he was losing a little weight and his coat is dulling. Checkup hasn't revealed anything as yet and so we will continue with his checkups and take things as they come and he is still continuing on his steroids.
All in all they are both doing well and bright for their age and considering what they have been through and we'll continue to do what we can for them to make them comfortable which for now seems to be working.
-
:) Glad to hear about them and that they're still doing well, hugs to them both
-
Thanks for the update, good to see that they are doing well ;D
-
Great to hear that they are still holding their own and enjoying life ;D
-
hi guys,
Sorry I haven't been around much this last week or two but we are literally rushed off our feet here.
I am also sorry to say that I come with bad news regarding this wonderful duo. Monday has very quickly deteriorated since the end of last week and been very ill. He saw the vet monday and things are not looking good. He is currently spending a couple of days with mum to see if anything changes but it is looking like Monday will be passing to the bridge very soon. :( :(
-
Sarah so sorry to hear about poor Monday but you and your Mum have done a wonderful job with them both
Still maybe the Sunny Harbour spirit can give him a little more time - miracles are being made up by the clan for dear Monday
-
oh dear :( I'm really sad to hear that, hope that Monday picks up
-
SEnding lots of good wishes for Monday
-
SEnding lots of good wishes for Monday
Me too!

thanks guys, we are going to see how he is but if there is no improvement by the end of the week we do not wish him to suffer and he has been through so much already. Will keep you posted.

Sorry to read this but I know you will do whats best for him...but you never know. Thanks for the update Sarah

hi guys, I'm very sorry to have to say that there has been no improvement in monday in fact if anything he has got worse. We will be taking him to the vets at lunchtime to let him pass with dignity to the bridge :'(
-

-
Am sorry to hear this news :( You and your Mum gave Monday him the best home a cat could hope for . I hope he went peacefully to the Bridge.
-
I am sorry to hear this, but he had lots of love and affection, and went with people who loved him. RIP little one
-
thanks guys. It was very peaceful and he just slept away in mums arms and we hope he is now back with his real mummy again. Going to check in with mum later to see how Penny is coping although hoping having Cassie will help her not feel quite so lonely but they were ever so close.
When I went to collect Monday yesterday both of them were cuddled up under the duvet together tightly....you wonder if they know
-
 aww, I hope that Penny is ok do give her a hug from me please

RIP Monday play hard on the Bridge handsome boy
-
Thats so sad :(
RIP Monday xxx
-
i am so very sorry to hear this, i hope Penny will be OK without him - it might be worth your mum giving her RR, Cinnamon trust do this in these situations. RIP little one
-
Thanks guys, Penny is actually doing OK considering she's just lost her life time friend :( She is being clingy with mum and a little down but surprisingly OK. Cassie on the other hand is a different ball game altogether. Although she had only been back at mums for the last 6mths her and monday used to play together and it would appear that Cassie being the exceptionally sensitive soul she is, has taken worse than Penny for now.
Both are on RR but Cassie is being very withdrawn and won't eat. She doesn't eat very well at the best of times and her weight is on the low side so we hope that she will be able to settle down soon, although she doesn't do well with change at all bless her. I think this may be whats keeping Penny going too as she seems to be watching out for Cassie and lying beside her, etc.
All we can do is give them time, love and reassurance for now. Monday was such a big personality and character, he has left a huge gap behind in everyone's lives. :Luv2:
will keep you posted.
-
I seem to have missed a thread here - who is Cassie? i am sorry she has taken things worse than Penny, and I hope between the RR and reassurance that she will pick up soon.
-
lol thats OK Desley Cassie's thread was sometime ago. ;) We did do a heap of work on her last year and really brought her on well, rehomed her to someone with explicit instructions who did exactly the opposite and would not listen to a word we said (needless to say if we knew that at the time she wouldn't have left) and in the end after 4 months in her 'new' home she was worse than ever and had to come back in.
She went straight back to my mums for foster as she is such a nervy sensitive soul bless her. By that time we had Penny & Monday and so Cassie integrated into this trio and actually has done very very well and we managed to get her to eat small amounts regularly and her stress urinating stopped. Unfortunately getting her to eat any decent amount is a huge ordeal with any slight disruption putting her off. She is one of those cats who has a lot of emotional scars from her past, albeit we are unsure on exactly what that was.
-
It is ringing a bell now, I just dont think I realised she was with your mum. Poor baby
-
oh I'm sorry to hear that Cassie is taking things rather badly, hopefully Penny will help her
-
Hope Cassie is doing ok, sorry to hear about Monday but know you did your best
-
hey guys just wanted to update you all on Penny.
She has been doing OK since Monday passed to Rainbow Bridge with Cassie at her side and is looking great for her age and is a happy wee soul as always.
last few days she has seemed a bit distant and confused so we are keeping an eye on her just in case though suspect she possibly may deteriorate. Will keep you all posted.
-
Thanks for the update :) great to hear about them both and glad Penny has been doing ok without her dear old pal :Luv2: - is Cassie ok now? hopefully she is just a bit off it.
-
Glad she coped OK and fingers crossed she doesn't deterorate.
-
Hi Sarah just wondered how Penny is doing now, has she had any more deteriation
-
thankfully things seeem to have settled down again with our little Penny and she seems back on an even keel bless her. That said they now also have a new long term resident living with them in the form of Sheba who is a little girl we have tried to place a couple of times with no success. More details on her soon.
Cassie & Penny are 2 very chilled out kitties these days on the whole although Cassie's anxiety is still apparent although thankfully her urinating outside the litter tray has stopped! Penny is a fair ol age now so I suppose it is to be expected we may have the odd wee 'blip' now that her wee pal is gone :( But all in all she has coped tremendously well considering what she has been through over the last year. As always we will just have to monitor her and make sure she is as happy as she can be for what time we have left with her :Luv2:
-
:Luv: :Luv: Give them both a hug from me when you see them
-
I'll be sure to pass that along when I see them next! ;-)
-
:thanks:
