Well after the sad loss of our darling Layla the week before last, we have been a very sad household and definantly missing having a third cat around. Noone will ever replace her and that is not in any way the aim but OH and I have decided that we feel we want to give a loving home to another needy cat. As my branch of CP is very quiet we don't have any suitable cats for our household at the mo so my branch coordinator has done my home visit, I have the form and we will be taking it down to the National Cat Centre (Flagship CP adoption centre for those who don't know it) with the view to bringing the new addition home.
I completely fell in love with a black and white girl called Lottie when I was at the NCC for branch visit a couple of weeks ago so we are going with the idea of seeing her (if we go with a completely open mind i'll want to bring them all home!) but if OH and I don't feel she'll be right with the boys then there will be lots of other lovelies there.
I shall keep you all posted on who we bring home, with piccies of course!

Definately, am really looking forward to welcoming a new kitty into our home and am sure my princess will be watching us from the bridge and advising us on a suitable addition :Luv2:

Well we brought Jasper home with us about an hour and a half ago now and it's as if he's been here for years!
We had a good look at and met Lottie who was the girlie who I had fallen in love with at the NCC branch visit a few weeks ago and unfortunately she attacked both OH and I and has been assigned a key worker to help socialise her as she has been attacking all the staff and cat cuddlers too. She was very pretty and I would have been willing to take the time to sociialise her but I and the adoption centre staff had concerns about the way she would be with my boys so we knew she wasn't suitable. I hope she finds a loving home soon and that her socialising training goes well. Adoption centre staff also feel that she's be going to be an only cat when she does find a home. Staff are also a bit concerned that she may be a bit poorly as she has been especially grumpy this week. We also saw lots of golden oldies who were lovely but I think my Rufus jumping all over them would drive them mad.
So the search went on and the last cat we saw was the grogeous Jasper... who was purry and headbutting us as soon as we met him. He's a young lad of only 6 months so just the right age to mix well with Rufus who is 5 months and Oscar who is 20 months. He was very playful at the adoption centre and staff explained that although he's never lived with cats before, he hasn't been at all fazed by the cats he has had in the pens around him.
So we signed the paperwork, gave our donation and brought him home... I had prepared the spare room for him and as I came through the door, I was going to sneak him upstairs but the boys appeared and came rushing up to him. All 3 cats were sniffing each other and seemed really relaxed and happy so I left him in the pet carrier with them for a little while and all the positiveness continued. Normally I wouldn't get a cat to meet them so quickly (have taken weeks in the past!) but it felt so good we took the lid off of the cat carrier and just ensured we were ready to move if there was any hissing or grumbling and.... well, it was great! All three cats gave each other the onceover then Jasper started having a sniff around and about 10 minutes later, Rufus and Jasper were playing happily which was lovely to see and then a bit later on, I saw that Jasper and Oscar had gone to sleep next to each other. :Luv2:
I'm going to get Jasper to sleep in our spare room tonight and make sure the cats are supervised when they're together for the next couple of weeks but it has been an amazingly easy and positive start.
And now, meet my handsome boy.... :Luv2:
-
What a beauty :Luv2: He's gorgeous :drool; Sounds like he was destined to be with you, can't believe how well he's getting on with the others in such a short space of time  I'm sure Layla is very proud

I know! I was all prepared for long and lengthy introductions but the boys took the lead and have made him feel welcome! Looking at him, you would never know that he's only been here for a matter of hours! Long may it last :)

He is lovely, I do have a soft spot for white and blacks.

Well he seems very settled this morning. Him and Rufus have been chasing eachother playing all morning and he loves the laser (although Rufus wasn't too keen to share that one! lol) He's now sitting on the window ledge next to me.... well actually he's now jumped off and is charging around again!
I will take some mre piccies soon but at the moment, he won't keep still!
-
:Luv: he looks lovely and great news that they've all settled in well together :)

Well he's become more of a poser in the last ten mins so I thought I'd give you a visual update! (I know how we all love the piccies of the furbabies!!! :Luv2:)

Jasper is adorable and its good that he's settled in so well :Luv2:

:Luv2: Awwwww he is sooo handsome so glad they are all ok together
-
Awwww, Jasper's a cutie! ;D
-
He's lovely :Luv: Its great news that your boys have accepted him so happily into your family as well!
-
What a handsome chap, he reminds me a lot of my old man Henry. I adopted Henry when he was 14/15 so I got all mushy looking at the pictures thinking aww I bet that's what Henry looked like when he was young :Luv2:
-
Well it's like a mad house here! :evillaugh: All 3 cats still getting on well. Rufus and Jasper have spent the whole of this morning, chasing each other around the house wrestling... I thought that Rufus and Oscar had rough wrestles but they were nothing! These two adolescents have soooo much energy! At 5 months and 7 months they are crazy but they are having a wonderful time and it is very funny to watch!!!
Oscar is being a bit aloof towards Jasper, no agression, he is just doing a lot of watching and sticking close to mum- I think he's just trying to show his superioroty and let Jasper know that he is 'BOSS CAT!' He certainly doesn't seem bothered though and he was exactly the same with Rufus when he arrived- he just likes to suss them out before he commits to a close friendship- very wise in my opinion, but he is a very clever cat so makes sense! hehe.
-
Aw he's lovely :Luv2: its great when it goes like that for the intros - I've had cats in the past who have just moved in like they've always been here with no problems from the other cats either - normally do the intros gradually, but you get a kind of instinct about whether to do it sooner or later dont' you?
-
Definately Gillian! I had the spare room set up for him and was ready and preparing myself for a long intro BUT luckily, I could tell from that frst moment it was gonna work. I am amazed at how well it has worked though... It is as if nothing is different, he appears as if he has been here for an age! Very strange but oh so good!
He is keeping me on my toes though- very lively! Bundles of energy although not quite a match for Rufus who I am sure if he was a child he would be diagnosed as havig some hyperactive disorder cause he is full of beans! :evillaugh: Wouldn't have him any other way though- he is literally full of mischief but has sooo much character! Does mean that Oscar can get some sleep now too as usually everytime he puts his head down, Mr Mischief (Rufus) pounces on him and starts chewing his ear!
All three cats have just had tea together as well... I had been feeding Jasper separately as I didn't want to rock the boat cause dinner time can sometime cause grumbles with some personalities but he came darting over when I put O and R's bowls down and joined in... they all had their tea in a row and were more than happy ;D So far soooo good! :)
-
Well we're a week down the line and things are great- Rufus evenly splits his time between Oscar and Jasper- whoever will wrestle! Oscar seems completely relaxed with Jasper now too so all good!
Jasper is sooooo friendly, loves cuddles- a real lap cat. In fact as we speak he's headbutting me and rubbing himself on my cheek cause I'm too busy typing to stroke him! :Luv2:
-
I was just looking at the calendar and realised that Jasper has been here 3 months. Losing Layla is still so raw but on the other hand it feels like Jasper has been here forever.
As I write, he is next to me padding away for my attention and purring louder and louder with every stroke he gets. He is such a delight to have around, he makes us smile all the time and we couldn't imagine what life would be like without him now. I can not for the life of me understand how his previous owners could have parted with him but I am sooo glad he ended up with us.
My 3 boys are so happy. They spend their days wrestling, then licking each other, then cuddling up then wrestling... the cycle goes on. They really are so good for each other. I know many multi-cat household don't work but we are so lucky cause there is so much love in ours.
