Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if anyone will remember me as I have not posted for a while, I just pop in from time to time to see what you are up too. Well, I have seen that the auction is coming up and will be most honored to take part again. Last year was just brilliant and I'm looking forward to helping raise some funds for Teresa and her babes.

Will it be possible to have a sponsor a cat item again this year?  :shy:

Of course we remember you, once a Purrs member always a Purrs member - no matter how often you visit or post  :)  I take it there's no news about Phoebe?  How is little Spooky getting on nowadays?

Post by: blackcat on November 23, 2008, 14:36:01 PM
Last year was my first auction, and i have to say it was great fun and all my purchases arrived safely and promptly. I can only encourage newbies to give it a go. The bids don't close for days, so you can just sit back and watch the fun for a day or so while you get the hang of it. Basically the final bid received by the defined time and date, is the winning bid, so anything that goes on beforehand is just a warm up to the last scramble to bid on the things you really want!! ;)

So go for it, it is great fun! :wow:

I think as its getting late and /or i am being a bit dense here - am i right in thinking all items on the auction stay on till 7th dec for bidding and then everything ends that day !
If so, i bet there will be a bidding frenzy at the last minute as some people won''t bid till the 7th !?

Will put a few more items on in a few days for you.
Title: Re: Chatting about the Auction
Post by: Gill (sneakiefeline) on November 24, 2008, 00:05:58 AM
You are right the bidding on all items does not finish until 1900 on 7 Dec and we try to keep the bidding going for two weeks, hence my posts about pacing bids for a marathon  ;D

The aim of the auction is to raise money for Paws Inn but also to have loads of fun and thats why the pace is needed

There may be a bidding frenzy but there may not be, every one cant post on all items at once at the last minute and we use the purrs site clock to end the bids..if you are one second too late you lose out  :shify: :shify:

So tactics are the key, little hidden bids, massive bid to kill everyone else off.........maybe......a penny a time....basically just fun fun fun  ;D

Hopefully new items will appear every day and we will also have things to enter and give a bit that way......first one up is the Cat/animal chrissy picture show but there will be others  ;D

Auction finishes at 1900 hours on Sunday 7 Dec and the last bids will be recorded by the Purrs site clock and 1900 means precisely by that clock...one second later and you have had it

Then the job is for me and helpers I hope, to post up how to pay your money and send stuff out to the winning bidders  ;D

You did it last year - or someone did - and it was very helpful to remind me what I had bid on.  But if there's no plan to do it again this year, then I'll trawl through tomorrow myself.

If anyone else is as profligate as I am with their bids  ;) and would like to see the fruits of my labours, drop me a PM.

Title: Re: Chatting about the Auction
Post by: Gill (sneakiefeline) on December 04, 2008, 12:51:55 PM
The auction finishes at 1900 precisely on Sun 7 Dec by the Purrs clock and money can be sent in as soon as we post the instructions, which will take up to 3 hours to do on every thread.

Items must not be sent out until the money has been received. So this will be when cheques have cleared if payment is by cheque.

If you win an item it maybe as well to tell the auctioneer to send it after Christmas cos things get delayed at this time of year but I will leave you to decide what to to.

Happy bidding  ;D

So you won't be able to afford the teapot then?! :wow: ;)

Teapots come out of the household budget which is much more generous than the personal budget   ;D

Am now wondering how to play this tactically  :shify: And also wondering if I end up winning all the food I have bid on will Dave eat it before we emigrate  :evillaugh: Actually, he would happily work his way through it, it's more how fat I allow him to get  :evillaugh:

Maybe Airpets, Golden Arrow or Jets4pets. They all have good reviews so it will come down to cost in the end. Only problem with Golden Arrow is they do things the old fashioned way and as I'm going to be doing all the organising from NZ itself it could prove more trouble that it's worth. Depends how helpful whoever I convince to foster him is feeling  ;)

I find a door to door service better if you can get it. Mind, this time I will be collecting them from the airport when they finally get to Hobart, as they will have had quite enough shuffling around by that stage. Shadow can ride in the cab with me on the way home (did I mention I am buying a ute?) and the cats under the awning at the back (it will be a high awning) so that they are less stressed by noise and views. I can strap the crates down firmly so they are not moving about and put them on some foam for added shock-absorption.

Snap! I haven't started yet either but that's mostly due to not wanting to move from under my warm blanket and I don't want to move Dave from keeping my legs warm.

As for capping my spending, I haven't even kept track of what I've been bidding on so I may be very hungry till I get my Christmas pay!

I'm concerned that the wine might slow me down and dull my bidding radar  ;D  I've just written a list of everything I'm top bidder on at the moment so that I can keep track as, unfortunately, I have to keep a bit of a reign on my spending this year.  I need to bit smart this year!  ;)

This is the exact excuse I am using. Posting to NZ will be a bit of a pain fro most and the cost will so much more than within the UK. I shall still donate in other ways, like the name a cat thing.

Its no secret that Paws Inn has struggled to survive this year,( mainly due to human inadequacies on the health front) but ALL of you very wonderful Purrs people have kept me going when I have needed help the most. When I have been at my lowest ebb I have logged into Purrs and been able to smile at the wonderful words of wisdom and humour.
To be able to share such joy, pain and grief with such wonderful friends is truly a privilege.
I am truly overwhelmed by the way you have all donated to and bid on the Auction to help with our wonderful rescues and I just want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Sorry I will write a proper thank you later but at the minute I cant see through the tears.
Bless you all

T, I think everyone here who has been bidding is very aware of the difficulties you have faced this year - but we know, as you know, that you are doing a wonderful job. I only wish I had managed to score a few more winning bids so I could make a better contribution. I will see what I have to spare once it is all tallied up, and there may yet be a wee bit left over.

together with Frankie (our 7 month old rescue kitten) we are glad to be donating to your rescue.  we won 3 bids in the auction and frankie doo found a few more euros to add to the donation.

I won seven items in the end  Happily they are all things I really wanted so am a happy bunny, I will also round my donation up a little bit. I will be paying full price for both those additional items, and Pav, bless her little cotton soxes, will also be paying full price for the ivory cards and envelopes - so we each get half each, and T gets twice the money! ;D Now that is what I call a deal! :wow:
