My cats have been eating Felix jelly in pouches and they seem to be eating less and less of it. The jelly seems thicker and different from before and Franta who used to lick the jelly off will not anymore.
If you use fekix pouches, do you think they have changed the jelly?
Second part is about Franta.
I was having a problem even before his vet trip, getting him to eat. I think he will go back to his biscuits when his mouth is better but desperately need some ideas of wet food , preferably without lumps that I can try for him. Nothing too rich cos he has always had felix and didnt like Applaws or felix good as it looks....in fact wouldnt eat anything else I have tried. Not even the little felix trays.....now I feel the jelly in the pouches is much more like that now.

I've been thinking that about the jelly myself it seems like jelly is different in certain flavours Gill - some seem to slide out of the packet and some are so thick you need a fork to get them out - I can't offer much help re alternatives my lot are a pain and only like Felix and agail - Amber sometimes decides she hates everything and on those days just eats royal canin dry which is Stars food and I have a feeling that she only eats it to annoy Star!
-
Thank you and agree about different in different flavours......thats exactly what I have found and the previously fav chicken is now so thick and they are not eating it.
Think I may have a go trying to email them.
-
Can't help with advice but I can post you a couple of tins of Animonda Carny (it's pate) to try if you like? Won't be until tomorrow now though as the post has gone.
-
How about Natures Harvest? its a smooth texture pate type food, in chicken and fish varieties. Got mine from PAH but you can get it online too, some inedependent pet shops may have it or get it in for you. Mine preferred the fishy one. Have you tried him with Whiskas supermeat? thats smooth texture too.
-
That would be great Christine thanks ;D
Yes Gillian will try that too, hope my PAH have it ;D
Open to all ideas really just to get him to eat again....the big cats are not starving lol
-
How about warming if for them? I always "crush" the food while its in the pouch, then pour it out. It seems finer this way as apposed to pouring it then chopping :)
-
Thanks CC but have tried that but the jelly in the flavours where its thick doesnt thin with heat but I think they have also changed the formula or recipe grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
-
Yes, I've noticed that it's different with different flavours, the jelly seems thicker and drier in some. Polly sometimes has "little madam" days where she'll just scoff all the jelly, licking the meat dry :tired:
-
I thought felix had changed the recipe too. Mogs still likes them but Amber bounced supper and breakie so Im keeping an eye on that in case its too rich now. Could be she just likes it more, eats too fast and all that

That would be great Christine thanks ;D
PM me your address, Gill. I've just remembered I'm out at a meeting all day tomorrow but I should be able to talk someone through posting you a couple of tins ;)
-
Yes felix has changed and some whiskas flavours, natures menu and bozita semms different >:(
Gill, i would try supermarket tins, eg hi life pate, gourmet gold, if your lot didnt like natures menu they probably wont like pah overpriced offerings! Or get some a/d from the vet. I hope hes back to normal soon
-
Natures Menue doesn't have chunks in it, also Hi Life Essentials pates.
-
He doesnt like natures menue and wont eat the ad the vet gave me for him.......sigh Am gonna try that again later but I need something permanent for him to eat cos Felix just isnt cutting it now.
Thanks for all the suggestions and must write down the names of stuff,,,,,he didnt like the hilife chicken and turkey pate either........such a bloomin fussy man.
I may try a pouch...if I van get them singly of supermeat but he does prefer fish.
-
Beavcis prefers the pate style too - he likes PAHs own brands , specialy the fishy ones!
Ive notice that Felix isnt as popular in our house as it was , I bought some natures menu tody an that seems to be going down well.
-
Up to now he has only liked the jelly stuff cos he just licked the jelly off but I am seriously hoping that now his mouth has been treated , that when it gets better he may eat better.
-
Gill try liquidisng the Feliz so it all gets mushed together - I mashed it with a fork for Miss gracie when she had her mouth issues and she loved it, after mashing 10 seconds in the microwave and hey presto everyione wanted Gracies food!
-
Ginger ate biscuits after most of his dentals - Rolo did change slightly, but he did have 11 teeth out, he was only off them for a few days though.
-
My vet said it would be fine for mine to have biscuits afterwards as their saliva breaks the biscuits down and their gums harden in time anyway but it was quite a worry to see Schui go to his biscuits after having all his teeth out. He doesn't seem to bother for biscuits now but Byron has them occasionally and we also had all hers removed bar 1.
-
His biscuits are down so he can have them if he wants but he doesnt want right now. I hope that will change when his mouth feels better.
Have bought some new food for him today to try but he seems to be feeling sick and trying to throw up. I hope its not upset his tummy.
