Hi, in my care at the mo have a beautiful Birman, she is just adorable, I have had several people to view and many calls about her but once they hear she is a semi long hair with a thick coat they just don't want her. Poor Layla has been overlooked so many times. Lovely nature , gentle girl it is so sad. Do you have the same problems with long or semi long hairs? :(

:( now I am really surprised at that, it would attract me more, I've mainly had shorthaired cats and the 2 I have now are but I have had 2 semi-longh and would definitely have another. Is it the grooming do you think? I do know my first SLH took a little more but our last took less than some SH.

I have two birmans and two other long haired cats and the birmans are very easy to care for , fur wise.
Its those stunning blue eyes and white paws that makes them look so great ;D
They are also gentle and love cuddles ;D

I'm a cat groomer and although Birman coats should be easy to care for, I have come across a couple that have got in a knotty mess! It really depends on the coat, some have fine, silky coats, but others, like Layla by the sound of it, have thicker, woollier coats. It seems a shame she is being passed over if its because of her long coat. Would love to see a pic too - just saw a beautiful tortie point Birman on our local rescue site.

Yes you are right Gillian and my seal point and blue point brothers have different coats. Mostly both are OK but Franta had been very tangled before he came to me and had to be shaved in places by the woman who had him........she was a dog groomer and obviously did not take care of them!
Ducha whose coat is longer and silkier needs more attention than Frantas, especially on the side where his leg is missing.

Hiya, yes I think its the grooming, although she is comletely knot free, i groom her twice a day, takes nothing and she loves it.
I am in Horsham, so its the Horsham & District cp covering postal area RH12, RH13, RH14, Horsham, central Horsham through to Billingshurst , Adversane.

Have you tried the birman club to see if they have anyone on their books that would be suitable?
