Title: 2AM Panic Stations
Post by: LeighK on February 08, 2007, 09:18:17 AM
Good morning folks,

As Suzie always spends her day and night in the bedroom I'm used to hearing the familiar sounds of her nocturnal activities. These range from scratching in her litter tray, eating/drinking, scratching my canvas linen basket :), etc. etc., howver, this morning I was awoken at about 2AM by a new sound which sounded at first like somone kicking and sratching at a metal dustbin. I switched on the bedside light and saw Suzie under my computer desk and I got up to investigate. One of my PCs has a round "grill" in the side of the metal casing, small air holes drilled in concentric circles and she had got one of her claws stuck in it and was thrashing around and miaowing loundly in an attempt to get free. I crawled under the desk and tried to support her weight and gently get the claw free but it was stuck solid, somehow she'd managed to get the claw through one of these tiny holes. I wondered what best to do and considered pulling out the PC and getting a screwdriver to remove the side panel all the time with a highly distressed cat firmly attached to it but after a few minutes she managed to get her paw free. I checked her paw and thankfully there's no harm done and her claws are okay, no bleeding etc. but it gave me a few frantic minutes I can tell you. I don't think she'll do that again in a hurry.

Cheers

Leigh

Poor Suzie!  And poor you having that panic.  Why do they always choose the middle of the night for these misadventures?  Glad she's ok and hopefully she'll have learnt her lesson and will steer clear of those holes in future.

Awww poor Suzie.    Hope she is no worse for her ordeal.  Must have been really worrying.

About the same time, I woke up with a bit of start as OH had decided to return a couple of days early from business trip in London to work from home due to anticipated snow bedlam. Naturally I had put the chain on front door in his absence which he had not anticipated and bang!  Lovely outside now with neighbours 3 boys all off school and playing in snow. Freddie and Billy are going crazy in and out of catflap.  Tom is like Suzie though. Nothing will tempt him outside today.

Thanks all,

Yes, she was a bit shaken by the experience and, for that matter, so was I. I cuddled her for over an hour before she, and I drifted back off to sleep. Don't they do the oddest things ?! :)

Cheers

I had visions of rushing her to a vet still attached to the side panel of the computer, note to self, must buy a VERY large cat/computer carrier :)

Cheers
