Title: Milbemax pill swallowed successfully - a good tip!
Post by: tigerbaby on October 07, 2008, 19:44:55 PM
We just dewormed Jameson, and first tried the 'old' way, by wedging him between my legs, holding mouth open, popping pill, tapping back of mouth etc. He wouldn't sit still so OH came up with the most brilliant idea - knowing that Jameson goes crazy for prawns. He cut a little hole in a prawn and stuffed the pill in - Jameson happily ate/swallowed everything, and I quickly gave him a couple of more prawns to ensure everything definately went down.

That's it, took about 3 seconds. WHILE he purred!  ;D

Watch out though he'll be wise to it now y'know. Next time, he'll wait for you to buy a big old pack of prawns for him and then flick his tail up in disgust as he skulks off into the distance

:evillaugh: Dairylea is our secret weapon! - Phil already has a long scar on his arm from trying to give Doc a pill so we need any alternatives that might work!

Ours are always a bit suspicious though with an unscheduled 'feeding time' just after attempted 'tablet time'  :naughty:

Yep - that is when I'll give Helens dairylee cheese trick a go!

I was thinking of doing that, but not knowing if he'd lick it off I thought prawns were a better bet.

I am having the same luck with Felix "Lickins" at the moment to give Clapton his daily Fortekor. They are really crumbly but he goes so mad for them, he didn't see the pill fall out and ate it without realising  :evillaugh:

We bought 6 packs at the weekend as they all love them  :)

I have bought prawns a few times but none of mine will touch them  :tired:

Are they the ones shaped like chickens Mark?  :evillaugh:

Our lot all love prawns, except Magnolia  :shify: she doesn't eat prawns yet eats egg white  and potato

This reminded me that the boys were due their Drontal.  Here's a vid of the Dairylea trick in action...  This was an XL drontal and as you can see it slips down in seconds.  I couldn't show Lu having his as to keep Riley at bay I had to let him lick a whole triangle from my camera hand while Lu had his on the safety of the stairs  :innocent:

As for Prawns - Riley says :drool; but Lu says  he won't even lick one

i have a new trick when worming as my two young cats dont like prawns....or liver....or anything thats not cat food! i bought some treatums....think thats what they are called from the vets, they smell and look like meat flavored plastercine so you can just mould it round the treats.....bingo! (our older and much wiser cat wont touch them though!)

I gave up trying to worm Max with the tablets, whatever I tried to sneak them into, he'd work it out!  Way too clever.

I opted for a spot-on wormer instead, much easier lol  :evillaugh:

Yes - they are worth their weight in gold  Alice talks to me when I have them in my hand  :evillaugh:

They are only about 45p a pack  :)

I had to stop trying to trick Mogs as she worked it out. First she stoped eating the first treat which was where I put the tablet so I started altering when I gave it her but she still sussed which one it was in and refused to eat it so I had to rescue it from Amber.
