Title: Thomas acting 'strange' !....
Post by: betsy on October 05, 2008, 11:42:58 AM
Hi everone, need a bit of advice/reassurance..
We have had Thomas for nearly a year from a rescue home.  Hes settled in really well, can be a bit scatty ! and jumpy but think that is to do with his background..
Anyway just today hes been looking under the cooker, under cupboards as if theirs something their, but theirs not ,  he sniffing around and its not like him.. Hes never brought me any presents, and is usually quite a lazy cat, which im glad about !  so I dont think hes a hunter, but with him acting like this im not beginning to wonder !
Anybody got any ideas as to what could have made him be like this ? Am i worrying about nothing?!?
 :scared:

Maybe he saw a spider scuttle under there or something?

Our Thomas RIP used to run from kitchen into hallway warily watching the back of the freezer as he ran.  He stopped when he lost his hearing. For ages we suspected something was living behind the kitchen units but nothing found when kitchen was gutted for new kitchen.  We eventually figured out it was the thermostat on the freezer switching on and off.

Our three have been manic all night due to the bad weather

Jameson does this occassionally - makes me think he's making up imaginary things to get scatty about! The other day it was his big toy mouse.
Once he was staring at something in the air, couldn't work out what he saw but he sat all focused and watch something for ages. Then ran off, skidded all the way through the house and out of the flap! He was also looking at something under the breakfast bar. He sat for ages watching something (nothing!) - no idea what was running through his kitty mind!

Mine have certainly ben like that when they have brought in a present and when it appeared to be not moving any more they go away then find that its alive and they start hunting.

Have rescued a number of mice that way..........sigh

UPdate !!!   Well I was greated very nicely by Thomas yesterday morning and a dead mouse !!!  Im mortified !!!  Its the first time since we have had him that hes ever done this !!!   We think that he must have brought it in and dropped it, its run off under the cooker/cupboards ! and has been their since sunday ! and then hes got it !  I cant believe i was sharing my house with a mouse for a couple of days !!
Does this now mean that he will continue to bring things back ?! :sneaky:

they come and go!  a couple of weeks ago three out of four of mine came in with a mouse in one night (I think they found a nest under the shed, they were staring at the shed for ages!)  then they can go months without anything

Their natural way is to hunt and as you can tell when they play with toys, the instinct is just there.

Once they have caught something they will go and look for more cos it was such a fun experience.

Mice dont seem to have any brains at all , other than to pretend to be dead and then they wake up and go prancing around in full view of a cat...........sigh
