Tepe and i wer having a cuddle on the sofa and all of a sudden this horrible smell drifted over, i was very quick to assume he had done a bottom burp  but it's actually his breath....what do i do? :scared:

My cat Hunter had really bad breath once too and it turned out that his tonsils were infected. Is your cat making any licking movements with his tongue or shaking his head and stretching his neck? When my cat had this happen, he did not like me to give him any under the chin rubs like he always enjoyed in the past.
Also, he was not eating or drinking normally either and soon began to throw up a lot. At first the vet thought that Hunter had swallowed something or a blade of grass got stuck behind the soft palate. We even took xrays to be sure, but nothing showed up, like a needle or something.
Upon examination my vet said he could smell the strong smell of infection in Hunter's tonsils so he was on antibiotics and IV fluids injected under his skin. He became really sick. Now I am always sniffing his breath just to make sure I smell nothing fowl. If I were you, based on what happened with my cat, I would take him in for a checkup just to be sure that there is no infection starting up so you could catch it early. As I said, my Hunter was VERY sick and had I taken him in to see the vet the first time I noticed his breath was bad I could have avoided him getting so sick.
Good Luck

Yes, i would take to the vet straight away too - i had Bungly a few months and then noticed her breath smelt quite bad -took her to the vet and she had 2 teeth going bad ! He took them out and her breath is fine now ( for a cat ;D )

Max was the same with his teeth, noticed his breath was a bit whiffy, and he had a full scale and polish soon after with 2 extractions as well, after that, no problems.
Defo worth a consultation with the vets I think.

Worms can casue bad breath too
-
right ok some great advice there thank you. ;)
they are definately due a worming session so ithink that may well be the cause. he is not dozy or under the weather at all. so i will give the worming tabs tonight and see hoe they are over the weekend and if it is still smelly on monday i will call the vet.
i know what gingivitis smells like and i have examined his teeth and no decay present, so will try the least invasive treatment first-worming
lets hope it does the trick

Teeko always gets smelly breath when he needs worming - it can take a few days after the tablet for the smell to go away
-
they both had a worming tablet this morning (one from the vet) and i was in the kitchen this afternoon and floss was in the tray and he has the runs really bad  is this because of the worming tablet?
-
The diarrhoea probably is because of the worming tablet. If it doesn't go away in a couple of days, take him to the vet. Another possible side effect is extra saliva.
-
Is he dribbling too? If so, take him to the vet. Max had bad breath and dribbled when he had mouth cancer (sorry to alarm,) your cat probably has something much less serious but best to go to the vet to get the bad teeth, or whatever, treated.
-
Just want to emphasise, that if dribbling started after the worming tablets were administered, it's probably only a side effect. If it was happening before the worming treatement, it could indeed be something else.

still have loose stools but not extra saliva. breath seems a lot better aswell :wow:
