My lot like most biscuits as they only get them as treats and as a bedtime snack - but they really liked these croquettes (love the word croquette :Luv: ) the salmon flavour, which strangely also contains cheese! (probably why they liked them so much) well some of the Almo Nature wet foods contain cheese don't they, so why not the dry I suppose!

Where did you get these from gillian, never seen them

Just my local pet shop, I'm pretty sure you can get them online at Zooplus though.

So I was just checking the price of these on Zooplus (and actually my local petshop is selling the 400g pack cheaper!) and had a quick check of the ingredients...
Almo Nature holistic croquettes on Zooplus list of ingredients: Brown rice, Salmon meal, Fresh salmon, Salmon oil, Lucerne, Whole Linseed, Vegetable Pomace, Grape-seed Extract, Green Tea Extract, plus vitamins and minerals.
My current pack of Almo Nature holistic croquettes: Fresh salmon (>26%) 100% organic brown rice, 100% organic cheese, corn, poultry meal, fish meal, chicken oil, eggs, fish oil, whole linseed, brewers yeast, DL Methioninine, fructo-oligosaccarides, yucca extract, rosemary oil, alpha tocopheral mix, plus vitamins and minerals.
It looks to me like I have an older pack and this is kind of borne out by something the pet shop owner said about this particular line being discontinued (i.e. that line being changed and reintroduced with a different ingredient list!)
If Zooplus has the newer pack then the first ingredient you see is Brown rice rather than fresh salmon, suggesting rather more rice than salmon in the new packs plus NO mention of amount of salmon, suggesting probably less than the 26% min in the old packs. Also, no cheese in the new packs .
Obviously almo are resorting to the use of more of the cheaper ingredient brown rice, like so many pet food manufacturers - bet your bottom dollar they arent going to shout about 'new improved' recipe and are hoping no-one will notice >:(

I was buying some almo nature wet food on saturday so bought a small bag of the dry to try and the man in the pet shop said that they had changed the recipe. I bought the chicken one and noticed the first ingredient was rice. Of course there is chicken and chicken meal in there, so together they may well make up a larger proportion of the total than rice, but it does look as though they have reformulated it with cheaper ingredients. It was expensive too at over £3 for a 400g bag so I don't think I'll buy it again. Orijen is cheaper (esp when on offer) and if I can't get that I can get hi life dry (waitrose often sell the 400g bags for 99p) or JWB.

I find that very disappointing >:( in a manufacturer such as Almo, if we can't rely on the higher end cat food manufacturers, its a poor state of affairs :(

Almo is funny though cos they do pouches too and while some of them are like the tins and have a high meat content, others (bio pate?) have a really low meat content.
-
Their bio pate is fine Susanne, 51% Tuna, 10% mackeral, 5% water and 34% jelly in the Tuna and Mackerel flavour. I wont be trying the crocquettes if they dont name a meat percentage though

Bet you they have been brought out by Mars or someone >:( look what they did to Nutro >:(
