Title: Hi from Puglia
Post by: Technically Blonde on September 17, 2008, 14:57:31 PM
As a cat lover with an ever growing cat family I've been looking for a forum of like-minded people and stumbled across this site.

We live in Puglia, south of Italy. We moved here almost three years ago taking with us Bill and Ben, our two 8 year old moggies (RSPCA rescues).

Puglia is a lovely place but it has a big problem with stray, abandoned and wild (but not feral) cats. Our family of two has now grown to 11.

Bill, Ben, Bella, Bimba, Bertie, Bernie, Brutus, Blondie, Blossom and her two new kittens, Bingo and Bagpuss.

You may wonder why their names all belong with B, when we just had Bill and Ben, as my husband is Bob and my son is Brett, they became my B-Boy gang. With the arrival of Bella, our first girl, the gang was renamed the B Brood. Sometimes it's difficult to think up new B names though!

As well as the cats we have adopted we feed other wild cats in the "contrada" in which we live. And Bob goes everyday to the next contrada to feed and care for the Contrada Canuta Cat club. Most of the cats are either abandoned or were born in the wild, but they are all friendly and not at all feral. Whenever we can we take those that need it to the vet, provide medication and get them neutered to help reduce the problem.

We'd love to start a cat sanctuary and a neuter and return scheme - maybe one day

:thanks: for the  :welcome:. I do have loads of photos of all the cats. I'm currently writing the cat biographies for our Visitors Guide (we rent out our villa in the summer and the visitors are always interested in the cats). Going to put the cat biogs on our website too and hopefully will be able to load some of the photos here in the next few days   :briggin: :naughty:

Thank you for all the welcomes

Seems like we have another. Blossom, the young mum who had her kittens in the wild at the beginning of August, arrived and took up residence here about two weeks ago with two kittens, Bagpuss and Bingo.

Just this morning as I went outside I saw her on our driveway with a third kitten (this one is black and white). It scurried off into the vineyard opposite as soon as he saw me.

But I have just been out onto the verandah (very quietly) and seen the new one in our garden - calling for his mum. He is very nervous but hopefully she will get him down to the basement with his brothers/sisters soon. There they have plenty of places to explore and play (and hide too!) He looks like a Bailey too me ....

i'm going to have a go at photos now!
