Title: dirt trapper mats
Post by: tillywilly on September 13, 2008, 11:26:57 AM
My cream carpet infront of my cat flap is a disgrace.
Any one recormend a suitable mat to stop the muck coming in.  I've seen allot about turtle mats.
Do the mats actually work??

I bought one on Mark's recommendation, I would never normally dream of spending so much on a doormat but they really do work.... apart from the other day when Lu came flying in at the speed of light and cleared the mat with one jump smearing his muddy footprints all over the carpet  :innocent:  Obviously cats don't spend time wiping their feet like we would so you're still going to get some marks but overall they're definitely worth getting.

I got my one from petplanet, there was and still is 20% off and they do free delivery if you spend over £29.

Yep, I got the one suitable for carpeted floors, the only gripe would be that it does move a bit - they also do one for smooth floors too.  I haven't washed mine yet, it's the fawn one and seems to hide the dirt quite nicely too!  I do hoover it once it's dry and any obvious muddy bits seem to come off with the hoover.

Edit to add:  All the reviews on petplanet seem to give it 4 or 5 out of 5 and loads mention that it doesn't move, when I say move about I mean by a few inches but it's annoying as the edge kicks up against the skirting board.  Worth the annoyance though as like I said it really does work muddy footprint wise.

I think they work really well. When we come in from the back garden, there is a wood floor. If you wipe your shoes on it first, they don't mark the floor. You just throw them in the washing machine once in a while - important not to use fabric conditioner as it stops them being absorbant. I also have a JML one but it doesn't work as well as the material isn't cotton.

My mum/dad have mats called 'magic mats' - and they do what they say on the tin.......you stand on them, stand off and there is no foot marks.  You don't even have to wipe your feet on them first.

They are the JML ones. They are OK but not a patch on Turtle ones.
