Post by: Canterbury_cats (Sharon) on September 13, 2008, 08:18:53 AM
I want to get one or two of these microven warming gloves that you warm up in the microven and stay warm all day.. I saw one that Caroline was using for Teddy (who is prob 16yrs old plus) and he loves it.. Any one seen any deals on line?

Do you mean a snugglesafe? Never heard of a microven warming glove.

Hi, I use snugglesafe heating pods all the time for both my Chihuahua's and my Guinea Pigs.  I've never used them with my cats yet.  Snugglesafe is a wonderful product.  I have two of them.

Here is a link....

I bought an electric (soft) petsavers heat pad for my boys. It claims to use very little electricity and you pop it under the blanket.  Unlike some others, it doesn't get too hot to the touch, just keeps them cosy.

Yes, I have something similar to that for my chihuahua's beds.  The thing I like so much about the Snugglesafe is that it is portable.  I even take it in my car with me during the winter so my chihuahua's don't get cold.  It stays nice and warm for about 8 to 10 hours.  It really is a nice thing to have on hand and I have even used it inside my guinea pigs cage last year when my heater went out.

I don't rate the snugglesafe as they are hard but about 3" thick so the cats can't lie on them. I have a few knocking about the house but they are never used. I prefer the reflective head pads we bought in the feed store.

I love my Snugglesafe.  I just slip it underneath my dogs beds and  the heat rises up and keeps them warm.  Yes, they are a hard plastic but they are not intended for your pet to lie directly on them.  They are meant to slip under the cat/dog bed.  They really are great, especially in the car.  I've had mine now for at least 7 years and I have gotten so much use out of them.  I highly recommend them.  They are worth every penny in my opinion.

I prefer these as they refect bodyheat. It definitely helped Alice. I wouldn't get size 1 as it's a bit too small. Sharon & I got some size 2 ones for £25 each. They are washable as well

I got the best deal on the electric pad from my vet actually as he orders quite a few at a time.  If you've found your order a lot cheaper elsewhere, you can just send it back with the PO parcel force when they arrive (tell the co first though that you want to return it & why: maybe they'll match the price?!). Am I being thick (yes) but how do the reflector beds work to stay warm all night?

Am I being thick (yes) but how do the reflector beds work to stay warm all night?
They reflect the cats own body heat back up to it.  The pad itself does not heat up, it only reflects the body heat back up where the cat is lying.  If you have a sickly cat who is not able to keep is body temp up and is shivering, these pads would take a very long time to help ease the coldness for the cat.   That is another reason why I like the SnuggleSafe heating pods, because it instantly helps the cat.  I also would like to point out that I have used SnuggleSafe with my guinea pigs as well because they are chew proof and could never harm a piggy or rabbit or dog who likes to chew things.  Plus they stay warm for about 10 hours or so before you need to pop them back into the microwave.  So if you have to go to work, then your cat should be nice and cozy until you return.
Plus you are not leaving a heating bed plugged in that could be a potential fire hazard. Although, I have those types of heating pads too and I do leave them plugged in.  :innocent:

When my heater went out in my house last year I had two kittens who were so sick with URI, and one of them was so sick I thought I might loose him.  Had it not been for my having SnuggleSafes on hand my kittens would have shivered for two nights until the repair man was able to get here.  I don't think the reflective pads would have been much help in this case, although I do like them for normal situations.
