Title: My article in Cat World
Post by: Gillian Harvey on September 10, 2008, 17:02:05 PM
My latest article is in the current Cat World (October issue) - about raw diet, in a question and answer format, pages 28-29. Mind you theres a counter argument a few pages on (by a 'consultant veterinary expert') , discussing 'the benefits of feeding a balanced commercial diet' - saying that those who advocate raw diet forget that raw meat is almost 100% pure protein - hmmm, really? oh yes, what do cats eat in the wild? almost 100% pure protein! Bit patronisng, as it doesnt really give owners the credit for being able to make a balanced raw diet for their cats.

But hey ho, those who read the articles can decide for themselves I'm sure!  ;D

I agree. I saw a food the other day. I can't remember the name but it said it was reduced protein for a healthier feline diet  - I don't get this theory  - I agree with the Orijen white paper. It's not the amount of proein, but the quality of protein that is important. I would love to feed raw butto this day, I have never managewd to get Kylie to eat any kind of meat.

I am racking my brain thinking where I saw this food - maybe it was just a dream  :scared:

And we all know that your average 'consultant veterinary expert' gets such a lot of training about feline nutrition....  :shify:

Look forward to reading your article, Gillian  ;D

Quite! although to be fair she did mention about the fact that there seems to be special diets to address every feline disease, and that there is a danger that owners will try these diets rather than using, as she puts it 'good evidence based medicine' to find the cause of the disease and address that first.

Yes,  Cat World has an online iMag - but think you have to subscribe, I think you can also request specific articles, but they charge for those too.

I quite fancy natural feeding. I am sure Jerry and Gizzy would approve but Im not sure about Beavis , and I cant afford for him to lose any weight as hes quite skinny anyway!

Yep, and they are young enough to take to it like ducks to water  (or something like that LOL!) ;D

I keep meaning to get a subscription!

I too think of Mark when I am selecting the litter off the shelf  :evillaugh:  Can't help it, that's his legacy to us  :naughty:

I fancy getting Lexy on a raw diet but she's not keen. Have tried chicken and beef and she just stares at it as if to say "what...not cooking today? "

Turkey's always a good one to try - mine love it, prob more than any other meat. Morrisons do packs of turkey chunks and Sainsbury's do free range turkey mince.
