Hi, I'm new to this site and having a kitten.
My little boy is 8 weeks old from a litter of 4.
2 of his siblings have passed away in the last 2 days of an unknown cause. We took this little boy in yesterday.
He seems full of life, eating, drinking, pooing and weeing.
He's white with black markings and needs a name.
Looking to you guys for advice in looking after him and help with a name ;D
Will look at posting a picture up in a mo!
-
welcome to the site, I'm useless with names it takes me ages to sort my own out! what a shame about the two litter mates, did you get him from a rescue or somebody who'd had an accidental litter? you will get asked for photos, I've never mastered it myself but somebody will help I'm sure ;D

:welcome:
Hiya. Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your new kitty. Once we've seen pictures maybe we can help with a name - although it took me a week to name my 2 boys so not sure how much help I'll be.
I haven't been on this forum long but everyone is really nice and helpful and cat daft.....won't be long until your the same as us!! :Luv:
-
Aw, he is gorgeous! And looks like he has mischief written all over his face.
-
very cute!!!
-
He's from my friend's litter.
The queen had one litter and nursed them, then my friend took her to the vets to be spayed, but when the vet examined her, she was pregnant again
-
He is such a cutie pie. How about "smudge"?
-
oh dear! hope she manages to get her done soon, its not too good for them to have lots of litters in a row, anyway I think he looks like a charlie! how is he settling in?
-
He's settling in just fine :) such a good boy.
Likes to teeth on my fingers :evillaugh:
Don't think my friends cat is allowed out again until she goes to the vet!
-
mmm its been a while since I had a kitten, my last one is now 3 but yes she bit and scratched a lot until she was spayed she calmed down a lot after that
-
Hi and well done - photos on your very 1st post. We love photos. :Luv2:
He is so adorable and great eyes and markings - his face does look like he has smudges on it and maybe Smudge would be a good name - My last cat was called Smudge but he was all black - One big smudge :Luv2:
The more you look at him a name will just pop into your head I'm sure.
Mary
-
I quite like Smudge, but that was the name of my brother in laws cat, along with Tabitha, Fred and one I forget :innocent:
Mischief is a good name, may see how that fits!
Names I have for my zoo already - 1 dog Spike and 7 guinea pigs - Marmite, Honey, Poppy, Sparkles, Piglet, Beamish & Tia
-
I think we all agree that Mischief fits 99.9% of all cats!! :evillaugh:
Mary
-
aaah, he's a wee cutie!!!
as has been said, great eyes :Luv:
he'll end up with heaps of nicknames anyways, but look forward to you deciding on his name :)
oh and welcome to the madness :)
-
Welcome to Purrs - what a little cutie he is, Mischief is a good name or how about Scamp ?
-
what about flip? dunno why really..
-
Just booked him in to the vets for his jabs :evillaugh:
Booked under the name of kitten lol :-:
Why is it sooooo difficult to find a name??
-
Lenny :wow:
:welcome: to Purrs BTW :)
-
Its so hard to find names. Two of mine are rescues from CPL and they were 2.5 when I got them so knew their names so well we decided to leave them. All the others we names ourselves but took time.
I like mischief as well.
He is absolutely gorgeous and I have such a soft spot for black and white cats. 2 of mine are black, one is white and the other is white and black.
I also have guinea pigs as well by the way. I have 8, 4 girls and 2 pairs of boys.
I'm amazed by how many people who love cats are also big guinea pigs fans.
Should have said hello and welcome as well! I've been a member here for quite a while but haven't posted that often. Often have a read up on what's going on and post in spates before disappearing again for a while. However, everyone here has always been so friendly and helpful.
-
Just found out he was 1 of 5, not 4!
My friend has just said another kitty passed away this afternoon :( so only 2 have survived, one which was rehomed last week and our one.
I'm obviously quite concerned :scared: :scared: now for my kitty, who I've decided will be called mischief :Luv:
-
:welcome:
He is a right little cutie. He looks like a Smartie to me ;D Dont' know why - that name just popped into my head. I'm always really slow at naming cats. Jaffa didnt' get his name until I'd had him for a few weeks (he was gingernut for a while until he got his proper name ;D) and Mosi was the same. I tried a few names on for size with Mosi to see which one felt right.
-
I only just saw this and i was gonna say call him Splodge he looks like he has splodges of black paint on his face he's soooooo cute
watch out for the little razors called teeth and claws especially as they like ti climb yr legs lol
-
I did think about Splodge ;D
He's curled up on my arm at the moment :Luv:
:evillaugh: the teeth and claws are little razors, I stop whatever I'm doing if he's going after my fingers and hold my hand palm side up like this | in front of him and he stops :innocent:

3 out of 5 kittens dying suddenly isnt good so a through vet check is going to be really important, make sure you tell the vet whats happened to his siblings :(
If you are planning to vaccinate for felv then i would wait until he is bigger and you know he is strong enough.
-
:welcome: to Purrs ;D
I agree with Millysmum, and defo get a vet check asap and watch him like a hawk for any signs of illness
I was thinking Cheeky but Mischief sounds great ;D
-
He's got his jabs on the 30th.
I'll call the vet in the morning to see if they want to give him a check over.
What age do you put collars on them?
-
:welcome:
Fingers crossed he'll be ok and I think Mischief is a great name!
As kittens grow so quickly, I would wait until he's around 6 months old, neutered and ready to go outside before putting on a collar. Many cat owners do not agree with collars as they can cause terrible injuried if they are caught on branches, furniture etc, so it's really important to get a safety release collar. The one's sold here www.kittycollars.co.uk are excellent and really good value for money.
When he gets neutered, i'd also get him microchipped so that if he ever wanders off and loses his collar, he's still identified as yours!!!
Good luck with it all - he looks quite little but some of the kittens we get into care look like little scraps and fight their way through to become strong and healthy cats so lots of love and attention and it'll be fine!
Has he been de-fleaed and de-wormed yet?
-
Hello and :welcome: to Purrs
Mischief is gorgeous :Luv2: To be honest with you I would see if you can get into see the vet before the 30th or at least give them a call and explain that your little lad has lost three siblings in recent days and do they recommend you take him in for a check up.
Kittens can go down VERY quickly so I would keep a close eye on him and any sign of illness, lethargy, sickness or diarrhea get him to the vet. With kittens "waiting until the morning" can sometimes be too long. Sorry to sound alarmist but as you are new to kittens I thought you ought to be aware. Fingers crossed Mischief will be fine but it's always best to be aware of things before anything happens.
Looking forward to seeing lots more pics of your gorgeous boy and if you have ANY questions just shout there are always lots of members on here at all times of the day so you will get an answer pretty quick.
Sam, Foxy, Zephyr and Rossi xxx

I will be getting him microchipped, will be mentioning that to the vet and costing it up :)
He is full of life at the moment charging round! Eating like a small horse and weeing and pooing fine.
:thanks: for that link, I've looked on there the other day so may get him one from there later on.
He is little, but he was bigger than his siblings:)
I think he was only wormed, not fleaed.
I gave him a brush this evening which he loved, and a flea got caught in the comb!
-
I dont know what age you can start usinf flea stuff in them but please get it from a vet not from a shop, unless its frontline. ;D
Check with a vet when you can use it and it also depends on his size.
-
He is :Luv:
I am abit concerned that his siblings have died at 8wks old though, I really think this needs to be mentioned to your vet and a quick visit is needed
I agree with MM re the FeLV jab, infact i would be inclined to have him tested for it actually :-[
-
Any update on this little chap?
-
Yes sorry, I've been away this weekend helping my sister move into uni.
Mischief has been checked over and weighed.
Apart from ear mites :( which he now has drops for and some more worming powder, he has been given the all clear.
The vet didn't see a need for any tests to be done.
He's a little star bless him :Luv: He's not yet attempted to climb the curtains ;D but still chewing my fingers
-
Woo Hoo what great news ... I'm so pleased Mischief has met Mr Vet and has been given the all clear.
You'll be pleased to know Not all kittens climb the curtains ... but if he doesn't do that I'm sure he will find something equally as naughty to keep you amused!
-
Mrs vet ;)
I hope it's her I get to see again at the end of the month ;D
-
oops sorry MRS Vet :evillaugh: ... sounds like Mrs Vet is a a cat lady then. It's always good to like your vet and to feel that your vet actually likes your pet. I know at the practice I go to one of the vets is definitely more of a Cat man than the other one who seems more doggie. Of course in an emergency I would have no hesitation in dealing with either of them.
-
Glad hes got the all clear ;D
-
Good news. Glad all went well.
