Well last night Oscar didn't come in even when it was raining, which is very unlike him so I took the temptations down the end of the garden and called him (usually he hears them and is in like a rocket!) and all I could hear was him crying. I got OH to grab the torch (it was about 10pm, very dark and chucking it down) and we found him just sitting down just outside the gate at the end of the garden wailing. We carried him in and I gave him a thorough check over and couldn't see or feel any lumps or anything unusual and he didn't complain when I was pulling him around so was a little confused. He went straight to sleep but was very grumpy wth the other cats when they tried to play with him.
I woke up this morning and couldn't find him to look at him before going into work (I still have no idea where he was hiding!) but when I got home he was crying out everytime he moved so called vet straight away and they managed to squeeze him in as I considered it to be an emergency. Vet gave him a thorough check over but is still a bit undecided as to what exactly the matter is. He says his legs are fine but seems to have hurt his back (Just above tail, between hip bones) as he was flinching when he extended his back legs but he says there's no sign of anything serious but he does have a high temp. He's had a painkiller and AB injection and we have AB tablets (that should be fun!) and he wants to see him again on Weds to see if he's bounced back to normal. As he says, Oscar can't tell him what he's done so it's a bit of a mystery. I am hoping the pain killer's made him a bit more comfortable though.

Lots of good wishes for Oscar

Thank you! He's getting lots of cuddles from mummy... although I think all he really wants to do is sleep!
-
I am sure he needs his sleep to help him recover

Poor Oscar, get well soon
-
Poor little fellow  I wonder if he over-extended himself and landed awkwardly? Your vet sounds sensible, anyway. Fingers crossed for a speedy return to normal for Oscar

I think the pain killer must have worked well. I put their food down and he dashed through without so much as a yelp, scoffed the lot and then launched himself onto Rufus for a play!
Christine, that's what I think he must have done. He leaps around all over the place so I expect he's twisted himself or landed badly. Either that or he's underestimated how far he's had to jump. He enjoys his climbing (often look out the window to see him on the sloped roof!) but if that's the case, I hope he's learned his lesson and will be a bit more careful- poor baby.

Glad Oscar is feeling better

Fingers crossed for him

Thank you all so much for your positive thoughts, he seems ok so far today but all I ahve seen of him is him sleeping so hard to tell. He woke up to have some breakfast but then went back to bed afterwards. He wasn't grumbling though which is a good sign as he sounded so pained yeterday before the injection. I think it's now a case of keeping an eye on him and he's back at the vet anyway tomorrow to check how he is so fingers crossed he's on the road to recovery.

Awwww, poor Oscar  Hope he's feeling much better soon :Luv:

The only prob with painkillers is that the animal thinks it is ok to jump and run around again instead of resting. Anyway hope Oscar feels ok today

Just had follow up visit to the vets and I along with Oscar am feeling much better. He is back to his usualy self and his temperature has gone down so all is well! :D
The vet thinks the most likely diagnosis is that he has had a bout of viral arthitis which apparantly is fairly common in young cats, is shortlived but painful and he is no more likelier than any other cat to get it again.
I can sleep easy tonight as I have been a very worried mummy!

That sounds like good news :)

Gosh, I've never heard of viral arthritis in cats, had no idea it was common! Glad Oscar's feeling better now ;D

Neither had I but he seems fine now so obviously isn't too serious!
