Her anal glands having been blocked three weeks ago, Blip went for her follow-up vet visit today. Luckily, all is pretty good in that department now, but the vet advised me to put her in a high-fibre diet.
I had the usual discussion about wet vs dried food - I prefer to feed wet as the main component of Blips diet to ensure adequate fluid intake - but his best recommendation was dried RD as the highest fibre food for her.
I know you guys will have some better suggestions! Meanwhile, I have taken a tin of wet RD to try...

Kylie was on R/D last year for weight loss - It didn't make her lose any weight but her "deposits" stank to high heaven - really putrid :sick:
I think wheat bran in r/d is too harsh for them.
Maybe you could stick to her regular dry and mix some nutrifyba in her wet food? - she would need extra water as Psyllium husk absorbs water. There are also pre and probiotics in it.
I just looked and it is recommended for keeping anal glands clear.

I have some of this for Alice which I may start her on again as she is a bit loose lately. A tub would probably last about 6 months :)
Also to add, when my stomach problems started, I went to a nutritionist first - we have one in town - A bit like Holland & Barrett but they are qualified nutritionists. She said she would never recommend things like senna as they weaken the muscles. That is when I was advised to but Psyllium for myself - I forget to take it but think it does help to regulate as it bulks. It is good for both Constipation and diarrhoea without having to take chemicals.

Just another thought. Orijen dry contains Psyllium as well as prebiotics to balance the gut flora. I think it's a great food and even give it to Clapton.
Also, it has glucosamine and chondroitin in - and no grain to upset delicate tummies. :)
Sharon was advised to try grain free food for Hyperthyroid (I think) and her cats love it.
Have I convinced you? :evillaugh:

I struggled to find a high fibre diet for Mol's constipation, the highest wet foods I found were certain varieties of Perfect Fit, and Asda Tiger Senior. The problem with r/d is that it is a weight loss food, although not one I rate. I did buy some bran for her, but she is picky as to what she eats in her food, so i have to use lactulose for her.

I used to crush bran flakes to a powder and mix them with Dragan's food.

Royal Canin Sterilised 37 is high in fibre compared to a lot of dry foods and has 14.5% fibre in it and as it's not a weight loss food Blip won't go all skinny on it.

I am very wary of giving cats with stomach issues anything with wheat bran.

That sounds worth a try as it is high fibre and contains glucosamine. Where do folks buy it?

If you want to sample some nutrifyba i could post you some, the tub is huge! Adding fibre would mean she could stick to her mainly wet diet, r/d is full of crud. Produces large stinky poop as they cant digest it properly, natural fibre would be feathers and fur along with bone also creating bulk not grain derivatives (obligate carnivores and all that :evillaugh: )

If Blip likes it, I might try that and also the Orijen. Presumably she wouldnt need both though?

Il put some in a smaller tub, sort of size vit pills come in so it will post ok, very light ;D

I just signed up to ZooPlus and tried to order the Orijen only to discover it is out of stock :( However, I have asked to be notified when it comes back into stock, which should be later this week, apparently.
Meanwhile, I have ordered Blip some Porta 21 (anyone had any experience with this: it looked like the sort of thing Blip would like) and Applaws wet foods, both in fishy varieties. Fingers crossed!

Think I have tried the Porta 21 (it was chicken and aloe) and it didn't go down well at all - one advantage with fostering though is that generally somebody will eat it, and my friend kindly donates all the wet hers wont eat too

Mine loved the porta 21, its very similar to applaws. The one they dont like so much is the cosma thai range as its ricey :sick: not even the strays like it >:(

Just waned to add re Applaws that I think from reading your other posts the lovely Blip's eating preferences are very like my Kiki (Not Nina the feline bin :evillaugh: ) and the fishy Applaws goes down very well in our house, the chicken not so much but I see that you have only ordered the fishy type anyway? The ocean fish is a definite favourite :Luv:
Kiki is very fussy about textures etc (she will only eat Natures Menu mixed to mush with cooled boiled water) but she finds Applaws palatable and easy to eat ;D

Kiki does sound very similar to Blip in her tastes, Ems, as Blip only eats her Natures Menu mixed with warmed water too :)
I will report back on the Porta 21, Applaws and Orijen in due course ;)

Porta 21 and Applaws arrived last week and Blip likes them both ;D The Orijen arrived today and she has munched on a kibble: I put out a few with her Royal Canin.
I notice the Orijen is only 2% fibre, though, so am going to get some of the Nutrifyba to see if she will take that as a supplement. The Royal Canin Mature is 6% so she is at least covered for the transitional period.

My cat has just been put onto Hill's R/D dry food - we went to see a nutrionist today. He has 3kg to lose though so I need it to be a weight loss food too.

The Applaws is a firm favourite in our house now (all of the flavours) so i stocked up whilst it is on offer at Pets at Home ;D

She likes the Applaws and the Porta 21 tuna with beef and tuna with aloe. She is not so keen on the tuna with crab. She also likes the Orijen and I am hoping she will like some of the Animonda I have ordered.
It is more problematical trying to get her to take the Nutrifyba and the Cortaflex. She won't eat much of the former and has to be forced to eat the latter :( Still, early days...
