hey up , i used to post on cat chat a lot but been busy for a few months .
I have 2 cats Mango -persian
Moomin- d/s tabby
Well Mango has been going to the vets for about 8 month on and off with breathing difficulties, she snorts wheezes and breaths funny especially when running around
If i leave her a few days she ends up with a temparature
When the vet gives her antibiotics it gets rid off her temp but not the snorting and wheezing the only thing that calms that down is a steriod injection
Well the vet has given her a steriod to last 6 wk but says that he is going to get her a inhaler as he thinks she has asthma
im not convinced , i have done a bit of reserch and watched vidios of cats with asthma but she doesnt caugh and retch
we dont smoke , use air freshners , use the fire i dont know what triggers it i use sophistricats cat litter it is a bit dusty
can anyone recommend a dust free litter or anything i can do
i know persians have funny breathimg but this is wheesing on her chest as well :(

Has the vet done any tests? For viruses etc?
You could try woodbased litter I don't think that's as dusty as the gravel

no tests hes a really good vet though , am going to quiz him
i was thinking about the wood based litter

Worlds best cat litter is good, it doesnt have any chemicals/perfumes in the dust like gravel and wood do.
Has Mango had any x rays to make sure there isnt a lump or something in there? A foreign object would cause inflammation and a high temp from infection. The steroids working would explain the improvement.
A friend of a friends dog is believed to have inhaled a shard of glass when the car it was in was broken into, it has similar ongoing lung probs.

Fingers crossed you can get to the bottom of this for her.

well the vet gave mango a injection of seriod lasting 6 wk he said that he gave her it to last this long to try to help her body recover , if she starts wheezing again i have to take her back so instead of going stight on the inhaler i am going to ask him to do further tests
i have been and got some bio-litter its natural and wood based and no dust ( she doesnt like it much ) but it might help fingers crossed

XRay will tell if it is asthma or not, at least to rule it out. Sending prayers
