Title: waitrose community charity donations
Post by: Dawn F on August 07, 2008, 14:56:55 PM
not sure if they're all doing this but my local waitrose now gives you a token at the till and you have to put it in one of three boxes at the exit to vote for your charity of choice and at the end of the month £1000 will be split according to votes - not sure how you get to be one of the charities but it might be worth looking into, they have to be local charities - hope that makes sense lol

I haven't seen that - what a good idea  ;D  I'll check out (geddit?) our local Waitrose on Saturday.  I know they have just had a makeover of their customer-facing material, so perhaps it's all to do with that?  Although I haven't read about this in the trade press, so it could be just a local initiative.

it would be good if it was all over - although as with all these things reading all three charity blurbs and then picking which one I put my green token in was very hard!!

the one in finchley road is doing it as well, you only need to fill in a form to say what your charity does for the community to be put forward - might be worth a go

Our Waitrose has been doing this for a while - as all the boxes get the financila equivalent of whats in the box then all three charities profit. Our local blue cross got about £700.00 recently! ;D

so they do accept animal charities then Kirst, that's good, I was thinking for some of the independents it would be a really good boost, I know Waitrose isn't all over the country but for people like Ron, Dawn and Teresa who are really involved at a community level it might be worth a go

Thats good they accept animal charities as part of the community, often unless you help people you hit a brick wall.  >:(
Wonder if you need to be registered?

From The Grocer, 9 August 2008:

'Waitrose is rolling out its community initiative nationwide [my emphasis] following a successful trial at four stores.  The Community Matters scheme will raise £2.3m for almost 7000 local charities and other good causes in the next 12 months. Each store is allocated £1,000 a month to donate to three local community projects...'
