I got my new kitten 3 days ago. I already have a 2 year old male cat called Milo. He is quite a big cat but still a kitten in his own way. A big kid. At first i kept them seperate but they could see each other through the glass door. Late last night i let the kitten see him through a cat carrier. Then i let them meet. There was a little hiss but then it was fine. However Milo wont leave the kitten alone. He constantly plays rough with her. Pinning her down and biting but not drawing blood. She then cries and i have to get him off with a hand clap. They do run around and play and the kitten goes back for more, but I feel Milo is treating her like prey! And is too much for her.
I let them together for a little bit then seprate them. But i have some questions.
Is this normal behaviour on Milos part?
I want to spend time with the kitten but dont want to keep putting her into the different room away from us, but if i put Milo in a different room it might be like im favouring the new kitten. I dont want Milo displaced. (we have a small house)
Should i keep letting them meet for short times until Milo gets used to her, or wait for longer and then let them meet?
Any otehr tips?

Definately keep them apart whilst your out, he wont hurt out of malice but could easily get carried away whilst playing. Once kitten is bigger its ok as they can defend themselves better.
You could get dog crate for the kitten to have as a safe house

Oh i never leave them together when im out. Even when im there Milo just wont leave her alone. I have a dog crate but wasnt sure if it would freak her out a bit. But il try it.

Could she sleep in the crate over night?
-
If its big enough that you can put everything she needs in there then yes she could

Well it was a great idea! It means we can have the house open as it usually is and have kitty have some time out from Milo. She is fast asleep in there now.

Ahhh she even has her own guard dog .... :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:

:evillaugh: Yeah! She is slowly getting used to him. If he doesnt move too fast she is fine. If he decides to stick his nose at her she hisses lol. He is huge compared to her! And isnt fazed at all. She hisses etc and he just ignores it all and moseys along lol. If anything ihave to watch for its him squashing her! But we havnt quite got to the stage of her going too near him yet.
I really hope Milo settles with her. I cant even have her out for a minute without him pouncing. So i am not letting them together for another wee while. The cage is also good as they can see and touch but not fight.

Just wanted to say well done for getting into the swing of Purrs so quickly, we do like our photos and there's nothing better than photo updates, especially when they feature such a little cutie :Luv2:

Heh i am a fan of photos. :shy:

Great, thats a lovely big crate ;D
Only thing id say is dont leave that string/elastic hanging unattended, iv heard of many a cat/kitten getting it wrapped round a neck or paw :(
A few loose toys, catproofed of course, would be much safer ;D

Yeah i took it out before bed. I had a severe lack of kitty toys. I got some today though. Handy that i work p/t in pet shop.
Milo and Pagan are getting on much better now. Milo isnt quite so harsh. Still has his moments but he knows now that he can be a bit rough. They actually both fell asleep on the sofa today lol.

Ahhhh Pagan looks so tiny on the back of the sofa. I'm sure her and Milo will become great friends once he realises his own strength and when she starts to bop him back!
