Title: Tilly makes a bid for freedom
Post by: Dawn F on August 06, 2008, 11:37:53 AM
got in from work last night and mil said she hadn't seen the cats, as the garden is cat proofed I wasn't overly worried but had a quick look around Star in the conservatory, Amber on top of our wardrobe go out into the garden and Oscar is by the shed looking up, I look up and there is Tilly on the shed roof out of my reach, I try to coax her forward but she is too scared to tread on the netting so I go in and get some food by the time I get back she is in a tree in the garden that backs on to ours tarting about and rubbing her head on everything, eventually the food makes her come down and I support the netting so she can walk on it and grab her by the scruff as soon as I can (she can growl!!)  anyway the upshot appears to be mil against all requests has opened her bedroom window which has the conservatory roof directly below, mils windows are now locked  :evillaugh:  I was really freaked out, if she disappeared I don't know what I'd do

So glad it was a happy ending Dawn and you know how she got out and can be prevented in the future.

Bonnie's an indoor cat and sometimes when I come in with lots of bags and can't shut the door in time, she runs out and she only goes as far ads the grass and starts eating it.  I tried coaxing her back with food but in the end I coaxed her in with some grass!!   :Luv2:

the thing was I don't know how long she was out of the cat proofing, scares me just thinking about it, I kept getting up in the night to check they were still in the garden with a torch even though I knew how she got out!

You can get a window limiter which lets the window open up to couple of inches at the most. I'm sure your MIL needs to breathe  :evillaugh:

Phew, glad she didn't get far.  I daren't open my windows either, spiders are one concern but I know Riley would probably launch himself out, I have cataire screens from the old house so really need to get round to making them fit the new windows...  Summer 2011 is my target!

I think we will have to get window screens for next summer, it does get hot upstairs but this summer has been so short I just haven't bothered

Glad she was a good girl and didn't go far! Can imagine how panicked you must have been. Now is it really essential for MIL to be able to breathe?  :evillaugh: :evillaugh:

We are lucky our windows have settings so they can only be opened a small amount to let a bit of air in without the cats escaping as I am paranoid about the cats getting out as our garden isn't catproofed and doesn't even have a proper fence at the back (just a post and wire one) and they'd head off over the fields and I'd never see them again. Will be brilliant next year (hopefully!!) when we build our cat run as then the dining room window will open into it so we can have plenty of fresh air and the cats can't escape!

That was lucky - so glad she's back.  Similar happened to me when my ex brother in law decided to put the bin too close to the wall.  Summer managed to get from the bin to a tiny bit of exposed wall and then up on the fence (about eight foot) and ended up on next door's flat roof.  Hubby had to climb up and rescue her cause she couldn't see how to get back to us!  Nightmare  None of them have done it since thank goodness.  Don't think hubby's sciatica (sorry about spelling) could take it

Glad she didn't get far.  I'm paranoid about that sort of thing too but thankfully my boys have never made a bid for freedom.  I open the windows a fraction but always keep an eye on them and if I notice Mosi showing undue interest in an open window I close it pronto.  Over the years I've mastered the indoor cat slave shuffle when coming in and out  ;D
