......thought I'd start a fresh thread for people to put their older cats on.
Here are my two. The big black tom is called Jack and he's 13, and the black and white girl is Carrie who is approximately 18. Both are utter sweeties; even if Carrie does insist on yodelling at 4 o'clock in the morning!
-
hee hee - I just love piccies of Old Mog - she has the most wonderful face, JS!
-
Bless them both! I agree Sue. Imagine the school marm looking down at you disapprovingly ;D
-
Um is 11 old enough?
Rescued at 6 months after being abused (i.e. smashed into a wall) the lovely Mr Penguin (Mr P for short). Everyone loves him and my foster cat Harley remembered him after being in her new house for 3 months.

And at 10, Alice :Luv2: (although probably older)
Most people know her story - living under a car for a year until the lady decided to phone CP as she had a huge lump on her face. Treated as an absess but turned out to be cancer. Now being treated for her dodgy back and she is sleeping for England :Luv2: (I suppose she can get comfortable now)
Pics taken this morning :Luv2:
-
It just had to be done ;D ;D

Nice idea JS. Some beautiful puds on this thread :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: Looks like black puddies are in the majority so far. Here's Tom. 18 yrs and 8 mths. Hobbies include sleeping and eating :)

-
Jumpy - a.k.a. The Jumpster a.k.a Scruffy Bum. Now aged 14 and milking it for all it's worth!
-
Aren't they gorgeous? I especially love Tom (can't resist black cats)
-
:Luv: They're all so lovely...
Here's Dinah, 19 years young, trying to look dignified whilst cooling off her fluffy bloomers!

  Who needs an excuse for a thread like this?! All these wonderful wonderful senior cats, and none of them look a day over 10 ;D
-
hee hee - I just love piccies of Old Mog - she has the most wonderful face, JS!
And thinks she has the most wonderful voice too(!) ;)
-
Aww, they are all lovely, I do love older cats, they do have so much to give. Here are the three with me, only 2 are mine, but Zi is living her life out with me.
Molly is 15 and a half, very impressive as when I took her on as a 13yo, I thought it was for months.
Zi is 18
Mabel is ? - we guessed at 12 for insurance, vet thinks she could be 16, but it is only guesswork as she is poorly.
-
I amazes me how many people want kittens when they would probably be happier with older cats who for the most part are happy to chill & purr :Luv2:
-
I agree, Mark. I'm definitely more of a fan of "middle aged" cats than really old or really young though. The right balance of enthusiasm and relaxed. :)
I love the picture of Zi in bed, Desley.
-
The right balance of enthusiasm and relaxed. :)
:evillaugh:
Yes - I thought she was getting up but she just moved from the bed she slept in all night to a fluffy pad at the other end of the sofa :evillaugh:
(The flectabed is in the middle in case she feels cold :evillaugh: )
Please excuse the mess :shy:
-
Gorgeous puds :Luv:
Jaffa would be horrified at me putting him in an older cats thread, so please don't tell him. He's only 11 but I think he can just about sneak in!

I cant' understand people wanting kittens either, I much prefer oldies.
-
I do love my old man, we wanted a kitten but when I saw Henry on catchat my heart bled and couldn't stop thinking about this poor old man who had been waiting on a home for over a year. It took me 2 days to convince OH he wanted an older cat as well and the homechecker did keep asking if I was sure that was the cat I wanted and that if I changed mind after seeing him there was no pressure. On seeing him it took approx 2secs to fall in love with him. I'd like to say the feeling was mutal, he got out the cage plonked himself on the couch next to me and cuddled in. He isn't the healist of cats, he has had the flu, diagnosed with CRF and a dental all in the last 5 months but I wouldn't change him for the world. Anyway enough gushing here's the pic!
-
All gorgeous :Luv: :Luv2: but I do especially love Jaffa's tummy! :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
Sylvester who is roughly 12
(http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l86/nikkirushin/Image043.jpg)
Bunty who is about 16 now
(http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l86/nikkirushin/Image016-1.jpg)

I'm liking this thread, older cats are much more civilised and have proper personalities. Robinsons only 13 but he doesnt look a day older than 5, a bit like myself actually except im 22 :P.
Poor robinson always feels old when he looks at his Go-Cat biscuits and see's that "seniors" are classed as 8+ though :evillaugh:.
anyway here's robinson, though alot of you will of seen him before ;).

Go-cat? :scared:
-
Robinson and all the other "oldies" are lovely. :)
-
they are all gorgeous, i would post a pic of my oldie TC if i knew how, but all my pics are too larger file size.
tc is 16 and he is black and white and gorgeous (his words not mine). whenever someone asks his age they are always suprised as he doesnt look it.
he is a star as are all the oldies, we love him to pieces
-
Go on photobucket hun its easy to bring them down sizes
-
Yep, photobucket is great - give it a go, let's see those piccies!!
So much for mellow older cats, Dinah has just had to be rescued from our neighbour's siamese
It was wee o'clock, but as he's been out more than 5 minutes went to see where she'd got to - I could hear her growling as soon as I set foot in the garden! He'd blocked her route back up the path :evillaugh:
-
This old guy is at FoalFarm -
I keep looking at his picture :Luv: But i think joining a house of 11 cats would be too much for him
-
Sofa, my very special princess (roughly 14 years young) :Luv:

OMG!!
IM like the biggest fan of the little oldies :Luv2: and all of these piccies are sending me week at the knees especially the young man at foal farm!!!
-
:drool; :sigh: Beautiful every one of them, gorgeous
-
I love oldies - will need to get photos of my two up. They are coming up for 12 and whilst oscar is starting to show his age Edgar still has the mischief of a kitten - I had to put the leftovers of last nights dinner in the OVEN after he twice tried to nab it by climing up the bunker, tipping off the lid and dragging the dish chloth off with his teeth!!!
Oh and oldies are so much more affectionate!
-
This thread has prompted me to download the pics off my camera and here is Franta 15 years old next week ;D
he is either in the catniop tub or on his box in the greenhouse and thats catnip dust all over him
-
OMG Gill. I do hope you didn't have these photos of Franta lurking on your camera without sharing in the Cat Show as that would have been criminal. What a stunner! :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:
-
No I didnt Rosella , I only took these a couple of weeks ago, think I mentioned it on A team thread that I had pics of him on his box in the greenhouse and the one in the tub is quite new and have had to plant some more catnip seedlings where he is lying cos him and the others hade eaten or crushed them to death
-
Oh the cats are all adroable - Franta is very handsome!
Here are my two - usually do nothing but sleep ..sometimes together
(http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn164/sundevil_rachael/The%20boys/MobileMay08043.jpg)

On a slightly somber note I am currently reading the Cat Detective book about cat behaviour and the author has a theory that cats have a bit of a watershed age of 12 and that if they can get past 12 then they are likely to see it into their late teens - 12 is a common age for developing ailments. Has anyone else thought this - just curious as mine are both 12 this year and thought it was a rather random view to express if it wasn't based on a lot of research.
-
OMG I :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: Edgar :Luv:

Not a great amount of experience to hang it on but, if anything, I'd say age 15 more of a watershed. I do wonder though whether the Cat Detective book is thinking of peds and I'm thinking mogs?
....and OMG I love Oscar :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

Vicky Halls is a trained VN as well as a feline behaviouralist. I would imagine that sort of thing would be based on observation so fairly accurate.
Interesting (and a bit scary), I'd missed that bit in the book - I've got all three by that author.
-
i dont know, i think it varies from cat to cat and also what their background is. 14 seems to be the average age for my cats, but all come to me in their teens.
-
Anyway....moving on from the sombre note. This is meant to be a celebration of oldies!! ;D
-
took a few photos of my oldies last night. the ones with flash all have ET eyes (shiny). This weekend I aim for a new camera! If I can work out how to do it, will post a sweet one of Swampy that I had to take without flash to get normal eyes - but it shows him as several shades too dark (never mind, I love his facial expression as he watched OH going up the mezz stairs). Swampy is 16 and 9 months and Max will be 15 next month. Hope I get this right, am still mucking about in da photobucket :-)
(http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l424/oldbrebis/IMG_3349.jpg) oh blimey I EDITED the red eye (sigh):
and Swampa
(http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l424/oldbrebis/IMG_3330.jpg)
-
Gorgeous - are they both lads?
-
yes, my 2 boys ...ooh did you edit the redeye? it's gone. I saved the non red eye one to pbucket but when I posted Max's eyes were all red. thanks if you did ;D Swampa's about 4 shades lighter these days than that non flash photo and you can see he's hard to photograph. But his eyes are right. Whatever i do buy must have an external flash gun!
I love all the oldie photos on here. Cuddles to them all
-
Michelle, maxwell is a dude :Luv: :Luv: how old is he?
Milly is 9 but feels more mature than her years so would like to join the older thread :naughty:
-
Ahhh, welcome to the oldies thread Milly. :)
-
Gill, I can never get over how absolutely STUNNING Franta is.. those blue peepers are to die for :Luv2:
-

It was in one of the case studies in the first half of the book (as I am onlyhalf way through lol)
But yes much better the conversation has turned back to celebrating our oldies and welcome Milly!!
-
Caledonia, I've just looked at your pictures again - I LOVE the picture of your two cuddling. :Luv:
-
Thank you - that is their favourite sleeping position - as long as Oscar is in the mood!! ;D
-
Its taken me a while but i have finally shrunk these pics down to get them on here
But this is Marven he is sadley no longer with us but still very much in our hearts so i thought he should get a little mention he was 14yrs when he passed on
Miss him heaps!! handsome litte devil
-
Awww, Marvin was a looker. :)
Actually, if we're putting on oldies who we've loved and lost....the ginger guy is my Tobester who we lost just over two months ago to CRF and the tabby torti is Parsley who had a stroke last year. She was 15, Tobes was 11. I have to admit, although they're all special my ginger guy was an utter sweetheart.
-
Tiffy is 19 now so I guess he qualifies.
Still my handsome boy.
-
All of them special and beautiful and such gorgeous black cats. Sigh
-
Been away and thanks for the Franta compliments ;D
Some more gorgeous cats have appeared while I have been off and Marvin is just :Luv2: Love Swamp and LJ and all of them ;D
-
Ooooh oldies! I do have a soft spot for O.A.Ps! I adopted Ginger from Thornberry Animal Santurary near Sheffield last year when she was 16
She's just lovely-so loving, and fussy, and so bloody demanding! But I woudn't swop her for the world, there's no limit to the amount of time she'll sit and have her chin tickled for. Bless!
-
But but but ,,,,,,,,,,,,,we need her picture
-
I would if I knew how-it's ages since I joined a new forum, I feel ratehr dense and clumsy!!! ;D
-
(http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh202/LitleMermaid/gingeanddeidre.jpg)
Da daaaah! And yes that really is Deidre taking over the picture in the background
-
What a cutie :Luv2: Is that a droplet of dribble about to launch itself off her mouth? :evillaugh:
-
:Luv2: :Luv2:
-
Gill, I can never get over how absolutely STUNNING Franta is.. those blue peepers are to die for :Luv2:
[/color]
Ruth, it was Franta's gorgeous blue eyes that my Bonnie fell for on the Valentine's thread that I had going in February.
Our elderley little dears really are gorgeous - I'll have to post some pics when I finish work.
Mary
-
camera and here is Franta 15 years old next week ;D
Oh Gill, Bonnie is furious that she didn't know it was Franta's birthday - she wants me to send him a very very big belated kiss and cuddle.
:lick: :catluv: :hug 2:
Also here are my past cats Tibby was 26 and Smudge was 14 and Bonnie is 11 in December.
Mary
-
What a cutie :Luv2: Is that a droplet of dribble about to launch itself off her mouth? :evillaugh:
 Yeah! That's not long after I got her-about a month after she'd had surgery to remove most of her teeth and she couldn't control herself!!
She still gets it now when she's enjoying a fuss far too much and forgets to control her lips :Luv:
-
Franta says thank you ;D
