Title: Foster Cat is Giving Birth
Post by: madasacatter on July 29, 2008, 15:20:05 PM
Hi all, good news...

A cat that our cat group has taken in until she has kittened and been spayed, has so far had 3 kittens. She had the first one without any noise, with my son resting on the settee!

Then she had another one but did cry out a few times just as she was having it, and again with the next. They look like all tabbies so far. I am pleased with the size of them, as the last litter she had is only about 4 months old! We originally took her to the vets to check that she was indeed pregnant again, and he said he didn't think so that particular Friday. So we arranged to spay her the following Monday.

He had given her a pre-med, and then I got a call saying he had found one possibly two kittens, what did we want him to do! So I rang the owner and told her that the vet thought she was about 4-5 weeks, and we woke her up. Well she has kept us all guessing and gone over a full week from the latest guestimate he gave us.

She had eaten some poached fish and drank some of the liquor from the fish.

Will get some pictures when OH brings camera back with him (gone to work).

Now 5!!! :wow:

Well done Mum Cat! Oh goodness, what a gorgeous little family!  :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:

From what I can see, one classic tabby and one spotty tabby (both boys probably) and what look like three tortie tabby girls.  ;)

Awww!!
Witty, how would you know the tabbys were males? I seem to have had more female tabbies than male.

A bit of a guess really re the boys - as they're all tabby variants, then dad has to have been tabby as well. With mum being a tortie tabby, the girls can be either tortie tabby or tabby and the boys will all be tabby.

Interesting, i cant see any tortie in mum, so at most would have called her a patched tabby.

Desley, if you look carefully, mum has definite ginger patches on her legs, chest and face, as well as having that warm "old honey" colour that tortie tabbies have. Her coat pattern is classic tabby, what with those beautiful circular oyster patterns on her flanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by a patched tabby...

Likewise, if you take a good look at the kittens, three of them are noticeable tortie tabbies too.  :Luv2:

That is what I call a patched tabby where the main coat pattern is tabby, and they have ginger hints (explained by a breeder), to me a tortie tabby is a definite tortie looking cat, but they have tabby patches rather than black. i would class Minimopsical as a patched tabby, as well as this cat, who was one of last years fosters.

i can't actually enlarge the pics to see the kittens patterns
